Chapter 220: Lead the assault

[Donald’s POV]

When I led the team away from the Silver Moon Pack, Margaret was watching me worriedly from behind. I knew she was concerned about my safety, but there were things I had to do.

I was the Lycan King, the guiding light and direction for all Lycans of the Wolf royal family. The more challenging the task, the more I needed to lead by example!

"Everyone must come back safe!"

Margaret called out to us loudly from behind; I looked back at her, smiled, raised my hand, and gently waved, signaling for them to hurry back.

Armstrong still stayed behind in the pack, and I had turned down his request to lead the team. His steady and cautious nature was clearly more suited for our support at the rear.

His Beta Anthony, however, was a very alert warrior, and I had brought him along on this trip.

We estimated that this raid would be completed before dawn tomorrow. If all went well, I would lead the team back to the Silver Moon Pack by noon, and then we’d start preparing to return to the Palace.

Margaret just hoped wholeheartedly for my safe return, even though I had great confidence in this combat plan.

Sometimes I felt that Angel was right; after having Margaret, I seemed to become not so invincible. I began to have some weaknesses, as Margaret could always easily stir all my emotions.

But upon thinking it over carefully, I didn’t quite agree; love does not make people weak. It is actually the supreme tool that warriors use to forge their armor! With someone to protect, we become braver and more decisive.

Angel would never understand this; she always lived in a world of her own, stubborn and autocratic.

The night was heavy and deep, even more so in the forest that blotted out the sky. Fortunately, our night vision wasn’t limited like ordinary Lycans; everyone could still move freely in such an environment.

We crouched low in the bushes, focusing intently on the forest ahead, shrouded in mist. The Misty Forest truly lived up to its name; this thick miasma was a very reliable natural barrier!

"Your Majesty, the miasma might even be poisonous. Have the warriors put on masks and night vision goggles!" Christian whispered from my right side, suggesting softly.

I nodded in agreement with the suggestion and raised my hand to take the anti-poison masks and night vision goggles handed over by him, specially made by Benjamin.

Although we weren’t disturbed by the darkness, we couldn’t guarantee that this unknown miasma wouldn’t harm our eyes. To prevent any accidents, we had to be fully prepared.

Anthony crouched at my left, his wolf eyes fixedly observing the situation inside. As the Beta of the Silver Moon Pack, he knew this area a bit more than all of us.

"Noticed anything?" I asked him softly.

Upon hearing this, Anthony came to his senses, respectfully glanced at me, and answered, "We should travel through the trees. This miasma is heavier than air; walking normally might result in inhaling it. We need to be cautious and avoid detection before encountering any enemies. I can take the lead."

Anthony’s strategy was smart. I raised my hand and patted his shoulder, responding, "Let’s do as you say. I’ll take the lead with you at the front."

We decided not to travel in wolf form; human form would make it easier to conceal our traces and sounds, making climbing trees even more suitable. We only needed to expose our wolf claws to easily manage such actions.

The trees in the Misty Forest were tall and dense, like a natural route for our travel.

I was intensely aware of everything unfolding before me and did not notice any signs of Lycan activity. I thought the enemy would likely be in the center of the Misty Forest; after all, if it were me, I would choose to do so.

The landing spots I chose on each tree were highly secretive, and if not for the occasional sound of wind rustling the leaves, our tracks would not have been discovered by anyone.

When I saw the first wooden house appear before me, I realized we had finally reached our destination.

This must be the enemy’s patrol point; there were no more Lycans around.

I initiated a mind-link with Christian and Anthony: <Anthony and I one each, Christian keep an eye on sudden arrivals from their rear, move!>

At my command, the three of us landed quietly and approached the two Lycans at the cabin door.

My actions were extremely fast; the Lycan’s neck was snapped before he could even get a clear look at my face.

I casually tossed the body into Mark’s arms behind me, bowed my waist, and continued to move forward. After landing, I noticed the miasma’s color had lightened somewhat; it seemed not as severe here as outside!

This was a peculiar discovery, and the first person to find this place was nothing short of a genius. I was even looking forward to meeting my opponent now, a very clever and brave person.
