Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 207: Found Angel
[Donald’s POV]
I knew what Christian had left unsaid.
He hadn’t expected that the enemies we were chasing pell-mell would have someone intercept them midway, nor had he expected the interceptors to be comrades who had just fought side by side with us!
The turncoat former Werewolf Squad Lycans had undoubtedly delivered a severe slap to the face of the Wolf royal family. They caught us completely off guard and maximized our losses.
My Lycan Army was not prepared for the betrayal of their own comrades, nor could they have anticipated such a change in the battle situation.
If not handled properly, this could very likely affect the morale of the other warriors, causing new shifts to occur, which was the last thing Armstrong and I wanted to see.
The current situation was already worrisome enough.
The enemy was incredibly cunning and malicious, managing to turn Angel and the Lycans from my assault team to their side!
Thinking of the abnormalities with Angel that Margaret had mentioned to me, and considering the events of the past few days, I could now understand what had happened.
If I still couldn’t grasp what had transpired at this point, then I, the Lycan King, would truly be beyond redemption.
It’s naturally an awful feeling to be betrayed by a close subordinate leading the way, but obviously, this wasn’t the time for me to wallow in grief. I had to maintain my sanity and calm, the war was not over yet!
"Are your injuries not serious?" I asked Christian.
At my question, Christian was briefly stunned, then looked up and responded, "This subordinate is unharmed, at Your Majesty’s disposal."
I nodded slightly and let out a soft breath. Christian was a very capable subordinate of mine and understood me quite well. I continued, "Contact Armstrong in the rear and be on alert for patrols. I am concerned the enemy will feign an attack in one direction and then bypass our main forces in front to strike at the weaker packs in the rear."
"Yes, Your Majesty."
The remnants of the enemy forces were mainly fleeing toward the edge of this forest. I instructed, "Lead the main forces to continue the pursuit. First, try to capture them alive, and second, ascertain their final destination. Daylight is upon us, they can no longer set up ambushes easily, now is a good time for us to chase them down."
As I said this, I also transformed back into human form and, without pausing, continued, "As for Angel and those Lycans who deserted in the heat of battle, I will find a way to catch them."
"Before that happens, all of you need to keep your composure and not let these negative emotions affect you. They are now our enemies as well, understood?"
Headed by Christian, the Lycan Guard and the remaining members of the assault team, with their eyes full of unwavering loyalty and bravery, slowly knelt on one knee, placed their clenched left fist over their hearts, bowed their heads, and swore in unison, "For the glory of the Royal Family, we are willing to lay down our lives for the Lycan King."
"Go on," I said warmly.
Christian led the main forces away while I stayed in place, watching their backs as they charged off.
"Your Majesty, what should we do next?"
The one asking me was Lycan Mark, whose face was not showing impatience but an unusually calm demeanor.
I was aware of Angel’s influence in the army and understood the impact this incident had on Mark. After a moment of silence, I spoke firmly, "Return to the other side of the forest, and regroup with Elliot and Eric."
Angel, with her arrogance and conceit, wouldn’t miss this perfect opportunity to strike at Margaret. Finding her would mean finding Margaret, and conversely, wherever traces of Margaret could be found, Angel was sure to appear.
This madwoman! I wouldn’t let her have the chance to harm Margaret, she would pay the price for her actions.
I led a dozen Lycans racing through the forest. Time was of the essence, and I needed to find Margaret as quickly as possible.
I tried to contact Margaret again, still with no response.
There was also no news from Elliot and Eric’s side, and I had no idea if they had found anything new. I could only head toward the location Elliot had mentioned based on my memory of the forest’s layout.
What was somewhat unexpected to me was that aside from the enemy werewolf soldiers retreating in a frenzy, and the few Lycans with Angel, there was another group of werewolves with unclear intentions in this forest.
They were stronger than the gaunt werewolves who attempted to complete their shift with the mysterious serum, and they knew the terrain of the forest better than we did.
They ambushed us several times along the way. Although the casualties weren’t severe, it was truly irritating and maddening. They were like annoying fleas, always slowing down our progress.
After repelling their third ambush, I finally realized something. The enemy hiding behind the scenes was so cunning and sinister; they couldn’t possibly be engaging in such meaningless attacks. There had to be something up ahead they didn’t want me to discover.
Something they didn’t want me to discover...
