Chapter 22: Success

Raze knew that he was not here for a fight, he didn't want to, but he didn't expect that the assassin would make such a quick move against him.

"I guess I got a little too cocky," Raze said in a hushed tone. He started thinking of a way out of this.

Raze saw the mission that popped up, and a smile formed on his face, he just got even more reason to do what he needed to do.

He stared at the assassin while keeping Alex in his peripheral vision, not wanting to allow him out of his sight at all.

Raze activated Spatial Zone, and the pulse spread out. As it did, he could feel every movement without even looking.

He sensed a twitch in the assassin's feet,it was small but very intentional, so Raze knew he was about to make a move. He immediately dived out of the way. In the exact instant that he did, the assassin slashed with his blade while casting a spell.

"Flame Blade."

A flame arc shot out to the exact position where Raze had stood, but he had already dodged. Raze got on his feet, and in an instant, he jumped out of the window.

Alex and the assassin gave chase. They all jumped out of the window with swiftness, and as soon as their feet landed on the ground, they resumed the pursuit.

Raze ran through the academy. He made it look like he was slow so they would believe they could catch up, and then, all of a sudden, he turned into a dark corner.

As soon as he entered the corner, he used his Veil and completely covered himself. Alex and the assassin followed in, but Raze was nowhere to be seen.

They looked around, confused. Where did he go? But Raze was there, slowly slipping away.

As he moved, his foot pressed against a dried stick, and it snapped loudly. The assassin reacted at lightning speed, he slashed and cast the same spell again.

"Flame Blade."

The flame arc tore through Raze's shoulder, and blood shot out like a fountain.

"Arghh!" Raze yelled in pain. The pain caused him to undo the Veil unconsciously.

Alex and the assassin could see him again, and immediately, they moved to attack. But Raze wasn't going down that easily. He used Spatial Dome, the dome spread out and blocked the attacks that Alex and the assassin rained on him.

The two of them continued to beat and bash the dome, draining Raze's mana. Raze looked around, thinking of what to do before they got to him.

After a bit of thought, he decided to take a risk that might cost him his life. He had little mana left, but he still cast his Veil at the same time as his dome.

That move immediately spiked his mana expenditure, but it gave him a few seconds to move. He dashed out of there at top speed, running as if his life depended on it, because it did.

Alex and the assassin bolted out of the corner as well, chasing after Raze, trying to use his footsteps to track him. But they didn't need to for long, as Raze ran out of mana a small distance away.

They saw him struggling to move due to his mana depletion and charged at him, ready to end it all. But just as they leaped above him, Raze suddenly moved with a burst of energy. In his hands were two sticks, the broken pieces of the one he had stepped on earlier.

He went for their throats at full speed, making sure to stab at the same time. Neither of them could react, and the sticks pierced their necks, the only open place he could reach.

The sticks drove deep, causing immense pain. Both Alex and the assassin cried out, carefully trying to pull the sticks out as blood poured from their wounds.

Raze used the opportunity to escape into the darkness.

He had tricked them into believing that he had completely burned out his mana in hopes that they would let their guards down, and they did exactly that.

He had taken a heavy gamble with that last attack, but it paid off, he managed to escape.

He made it back to the dorm building and went in as fast as he could, trying not to let his blood drip on the floor, it could be tested, and the owner would be found.

He climbed the flight of stairs, doing his best to make no sound. He got into his room, and as soon as he locked the door, he slid to the ground and loosened his scarf.

He stared at the scarf for a moment before bursting into laughter. His laughter resounded in the room. He dipped his hand into his pocket and pulled out a rune recorder, it was still intact.

He managed to level up, he was getting stronger. Happiness flooded his mind as he looked at his new level. It almost made him forget about his bleeding shoulder, but the pain quickly reminded him.

With a groan, he pushed himself off the ground and into the toilet, he needed to wash the wound before it got infected or something.

At the end of the day, his mission was successful. Though there were some complications, it went well in general.
