A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods-Chapter 548: God of Music
"Is it really that hard?" Elaina glanced at the booklet once more before returning her gaze to Adelaide.
"Not to the point that it is practically impossible. More like, you need the actual experience on the harmonica and actually develop certain techniques with how you play the instrument. Even I would not be able to play the notes present here in the booklet efficiently like I used to due to how some of the notes seem to be placed, especially in the middle and latter part of the song itself. The beginning part was easier, though, and I can perform it to a certain degree."
Elaina was intrigued after hearing that. "Care to try and do it for a bit?"
"Alright, listen, Mom, but don’t expect me to play it really good."
Adelaide put the harmonica to her mouth and started playing the tune. Elaina was surprised by how solemn the tune coming out from the harmonica was as Adelaide played the first half. Her tune is quite peaceful, and Elaina enjoys hearing it. The gentle breeze passes the farm, which adds a relaxing ambience to the tune. The plants swaying, the grazing Wild Cows that stopped after hearing the song, and even the Feys, who are still resting, were looking at Adelaide with awe.
Weirdly enough, despite the tune being quite calm and relaxing, for some reason, Elaina doesn’t feel that much about it, and more like she feels the tune to be fueling her with energy for some reason. It was like it was supplying her with her energy all of a sudden. It feels different with her body’s newfound vitality, as that has already incorporated with how she is feeling normally, and since that one felt natural, she could only tell the changes in her body in a natural way. On the other hand, the tune itself is making her feel like she is going to dance in a beat. It was like her body was being given an incentive to move around and expend the energy being supplied in her body.
But then, Adelaide stopped, and the ambient feelings that started to form around the farm suddenly disappeared like something had just destroyed it. Elaina also found that the odd feeling of being energized has stopped as well, now returning to normal.
"That’s the tune, Mother. As for the rest of the song, I am sorry, but I would totally ruin the tune itself, as I couldn’t do it just yet. It’s in the very advanced mastery of harmonica."
Elaina shook her head. "No, the fact that you have managed to play the tune that long is quite an achievement itself, and did you even notice that while playing the song itself, the surroundings started shifting and making the surroundings a lot more comfortable?"
"Huh? I don’t feel anything right now, though?" Adelaide frowned and looked around her.
"Well, that feeling has already disappeared the moment you stopped playing the tune, halting the development of the ambience itself. I don’t know how it works, but that was how it happened and why you couldn’t feel it. You didn’t feel anything while in the middle of playing the song?"
Adelaide shook her head. "Not at all, so I was not sure what you were speaking about, Mom."
Elaina shook her head. "That’s fine, Ade. Perhaps it was the effect of the song itself. The fact that even with just the first half of the of song, the surroundings have shifted means there is a hidden purpose of this song. You already did well."
Adelaide and Elaina discussed the matter a bit and even gave her a bit more pointers on playing the harmonica a bit more before Adelaide left and returned to the farmhouse to look for her brother and the others. It seems they are now going to prepare themselves to head over to the mines and fight monsters again.
Elaina, on the other hand, glanced at the booklet and the harmonica in her hands. The song definitely caused some changes indeed, but since the song did not finish, the change of the surroundings did not continue, stopping whatever is happening from manifesting completely. One thing is sure, the song itself has some power, and Elaina is now determined to learn whether that song can be connected to the elves and their nature of being elusive. But compared to Adelaide who is quite adept already in playing the Harmonica and still couldn’t finish the song since the latter half is a bit harder, Elaina is a bit troubled whether she can even try to play the song itself.
With her confirmation of the song as something to have manifested some effects, Elaina decided to start practicing. She is ensuring she follows the tips that Adelaide has given to her. She also made sure to change how she blows the harmonica. Practice makes perfect after all, so she continued doing it...not realizing that the Almanac’s Music page started to slowly unlock.
The music page is something that Elaina has noticed in the past since the first time she got those locked pages. The requirements should be easy, but considering that Elaina is not someone who plays instruments daily and makes any sort of music, even with the easy-to-unlock requirements, the page remained locked.
However, now that Elaina is currently practicing the harmonica and progressing slowly but surely, the page itself started to disintegrate the locks the more Elaina fulfills the requirement slowly.
After a few more blows to the Harmonica and finally being able to make a bit of a regular tune in the harmonica without the feeling that the harmonica sounded bad, the page in the almanac book was ultimately unlocked.
The moment she makes another blow on the harmonica, the Almanac pops out and glows bright.
"What the? God of Farming, what is going on with the almanac?" Elaina is not sure how to react to the almanac floating in the air and flipping fast.
"[You didn’t realize, Elaina? The almanac has unlocked one of the locked pages you wanted to fully unlock!]"
"Eh? Did I unlock something that I didn’t notice?" Elaina was shocked as she was not expecting to unlock something in the almanac. After all, she forgot about the locked page of the music section.
"[As a result of your progress, we are being joined by another God this time around. We call him around here the God of Music, but sometimes, he is called the Melody God and it doesn’t change his identity.]"
"[Indeed. I have been waiting for the day that you would finally unlock the page that I handed to the God of Farming. Although I am certain you would actually unlock it much earlier, I never expected it to take longer. But I am not bitter at all. The fact that it was unlocked at all is already enough for me to be happy. Now, let me hear that glorious music!]"
The God of Farming quickly chimed in. "[Hey, sorry to burst your bubble there, but Elaina is a total beginner, and I doubt she has yet mastered playing the instrument she is holding right now. So, I am sorry to say that you won’t hear much nicer tunes from her just yet and more on practice tunes instead.]"
"[No, no. It doesn’t matter to me whether someone is not yet knowledgeable on a certain aspect or they are a total master. My ears can hear the tune, and I can easily tell the hidden talent of someone, even if they are just randomly making tunes in random. Don’t be afraid, my dear lady! Perform, let me hear the music!]"
Elaina felt like the new god that was unlocked was a bit more on the eccentric side. However, she didn’t say it out loud and instead, followed what the God of Music have said. She started to blow the harmonica to make a tune despite it being similar to the Do-re-mi. But she made sure to do it with precision and practice. She calmed herself and finished it. Afterwards, she bowed down.
"I apologize, that was a rather mediocre performance on my side. I hope you don’t mind hearing the bad tune."
Elaina was prepared to hear a criticism but instead, she was welcomed with a response she didn’t expect.
"[You did well, my dear lady! It’s basic, fundamental stepping stone in practicing instruments. The fact that you have played it despite being an amateur is not something you can deny. Be proud, not all those who tries to practice on their respective instruments have perfected their first Do-re-mi for the very first time. And no, I am not exaggerating this time around. I am saying this as someone who governs the music around the world. Trust me, you have potential!]"
"Really? You must be pulling my leg. I felt like I did it badly."
The God of Music seems not to mind this. "Don’t deprecate yourself. I am not someone who criticizes those who have yet to start any career in creating music and are still practicing. After all, one has to begin on something to be able to make a grander thing. This is not a blind praise, I am gauging your potential and you do have it.]"
