A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods-Chapter 444: The Synergy of the Trio
Chapter 444: The Synergy of the Trio
"Mom! There is an elevator! Do we ride that one?" Arthur asked as he pointed to the rickety elevator.
"We have to see if it works even if there are passengers who have yet to explore the depths."
Riding the elevator alongside the kids, the three were surprised to see how many buttons the elevator had. Adelaide seems to have seen one before based on her reaction to the elevator. Still, she was astonished at how many floors the elevator actually descends on. The other two should be seeing the elevator for the first time unless they have seen it in books. Elaina operates the elevator and makes sure they descend towards the appropriate floor... however, the elevator wouldn’t budge even if Elaina was there.
"Is it broken?" Adelaide frowned.
"No, that wasn’t the case. I see now."
Elaina sighed. Seeing how the elevator remains still even when she presses the button multiple times, it only means that they have to descend the mines manually and let the children properly register themselves as users of the mines, gaining access to the elevators on different floors of the mines.
"Looks like we have no choice but to descend the floors manually. This elevator only works if one has descended to a level of the mines with an available elevator. See the numbers present on the elevator? Those floors are where those elevator doors are. The earliest we can find one is on floor 5."
"Does that mean...the reason we are using these cheap weapons..." Arthur’s voice trailed as Elaina confirmed his suspicions.
"Yes, the mines are crawling with monsters. The moment we descend to the first level, monsters will appear before us."
Hearing this, both Arthur and Raye’s eyes lit up, ready to engage the enemy even when they have yet to see the enemies they will be fighting against.
"Don’t be too casual about this. Unlike on the surface and in the forest, the mines have the tendency to make an anomaly. I usually encounter this once or twice per descent I do if I do it manually. Not only that, they are quite stronger compared to their normal counterpart."
Although Elaina couldn’t tell the difference between the monsters being stronger compared to their regular counterpart due to how she could easily kill them, the monsters in the mines are much more agile and have thicker skin that there are times the sword can’t fully cut through.
"Strong or not, we can do this. What would our training even amount to if we can’t even kill monsters that are a bit tougher than normal?" Arthur is pretty gung-ho about it.
"It should be a good practice, I guess," Adelaide is pretty much indifferent but she doesn’t let her guard down in the slightest.
"We will show you the fruits of our labor, Mom. Just watch us!" Raye is also enthusiastic.
Elaina nodded with a smile. "Sounds promising, alright, let’s get going. We have a lot of floors to traverse just to reach our destination!"
...
...
...
First Floor.
"Haaaah!"
"Paralyze! Electrocution!"
"You won’t get away!"
SWISH
To Elaina’s surprise, her children were quite good at fighting the monsters. Although the enemies are just regular kobolds, their coordination is top-notch. Raye taunts the enemies allowing them to fully focus on him, while Adelaide casts her spell to either execute the taunted monsters or if they are a bit tougher, paralyze them so that Arthur can take the killing blow to the monsters.
"No more hostiles. Looks like Mother is correct. Although they don’t look like it, they do have tougher bodies and much more agile movements compared to the kobolds found in the forest," Adelaide said while examining the dead kobolds.
"Should we dismantle them, Mom?" Arthur asked.
"No need. Once we leave, the mines will "clean up" the mess so instead of wasting time dismantling each monster one by one, just grab the loot and the part of the kobold that we can sell fast or expensive to sell."
Hearing that, the trio started checking the carcasses of the monsters one by one. Elaina also started searching around the veins of ores and the walls to see if there were any precious stones or perhaps some ore they could mine while they were there. It’s not necessary but taking them doesn’t hurt.
A few minutes later, Raye who just finished checking the carcasses found something.
"Mom, look at this! A pouch full of seeds!"
Handing it on to Elaina and checking it, Elaina confirmed them to be seeds used for planting.
"These are fresh seeds of summer crops. There are lots of them here which means this is a mixed seed pouch. A good find, Raye!"
"I didn’t expect Kobolds to actually hold seeds like these? I thought they were meat eaters," Raye tilted his head.
"It’s more like a random loot. I don’t think the seeds are something the kobold carried. It’s more like it is spawned with the kobold. It works like how the dungeons do."
"Does that mean, this mine was actually a dungeon in disguise? Is there a risk for a dungeon break?" Adelaide asked, worried since the mines were near the farm.
"No worries about that, Ade. Compared to the dungeons which are always volatile if left alone, the mines are not. Based on how this place works, it seems the monsters are the "security measures" that attack anyone who enters. Of course, I could be proven wrong but we still can’t be sure."
After the three finished searching the monsters, they descended to the next floor. But it seems that their luck is not so good as they immediately encounter the anomaly that Elaina mentioned. The previous floor’s ladder disappeared and it closed off before the kids could even stop.
"We are trapped! What’s going on, Mom?!" Arthur frowned.
"Relax, kids. I told you earlier about the anomaly yes? This is it. The floor is being overrun by monsters."
As soon as she finished saying it, the monsters which are a mixed group of goblins, slimes, and kobolds appeared behind the rocks."
"So many of them!" everyone readies their weapons.
"Alright, as always, let’s see how you guys can handle them. Don’t worry, I will be helping too by thinning them out."
But Arthur shook his head. "No Mother, let us handle this. Please observe us and just watch us. We can’t grow properly if we have someone babysitting us."
Elaina grinned at hearing that. "Huh, if that is the case, I will not mind you three handling the monsters here. Just make sure to shout for help if needed."
The three seemed determined and went to their usual formation. The goblins and the kobolds started attacking while the slimes started attacking with projectiles. As for the monsters that come to Elaina, she casually kicks them towards her children which the trio easily deals with.
Seeing them fight, Elaina finally understood why the three would fight together in the future. With their formation and how they are quite synergized with one another, they are perfect for one another in battle, allowing them to be quite proficient in doing what they should do.
Before Elaina knew it, the monsters that blocked their way were gone and are now lying dead on the ground. As for the three, although they are a bit exhausted, they can still fight and continue.
"Good job. But like I said before, you guys lack experience in real battle. I can see some gaps in your fighting styles that can be deficient in terms of attacking enemies. Of course, thanks to the three of you backing one another, those weaknesses that every one of you possesses are easily covered up by another. A bit more practice and even if there is only one of you fighting, it won’t take too long before you three will be able to fight without relying on one another."
"Thanks for the pointers, Mother!" the three said in unison.
"Even so, I must say you three did a very good job. Keep up the good work. So, how are you three, still ready to go? We can rest for now."
The three shook their head.
"I can still fight!" Arthur raises his sword, still ready to fight.
"Me too. I don’t mind dealing with more monsters for a bit. Those monsters are small fry compared to the monster Mother defeated not too long ago!" Raye said with confidence.
"My mana reserves are also still quite high. Don’t mind us, Mother. We can still go and fight to the next few floors," Adelaide said while also showing off a bit of her mana.
"Sounds promising. But remember, fighting while exhausted is not good. It can be a detriment to one’s body during battle so be sure that you three are not tired. Don’t hesitate to ask to rest as that is a much more important thing than fighting thousands of monsters."
Even with that, the three shook their head. Since that was the case, Elaina nodded. "Alright, let’s continue. We are still a long way to go down so make sure everyone is ready."
Elaina is making sure the kids will be able to continue training. Sooner or later, the future that appeared in the future might happen. She still doesn’t know what causes the appearance of many monsters, but she hopes she gets to stop this event from happening.
