Chapter 419: On the Verge of Defeat

Since the soldiers of the Darcero Kingdom remained active even when the ship retreated, the enemy was caught off guard when they were still attacked after their retreat.

"What is going on?! Did the intel that we received was wrong all along?!" the Pope was angry as he cast a protective spell to block the incoming cannonballs temporarily. It isn’t a surefire defense to keep but it will do for the time being and recover from the attack.

Selena angrily barked a command to the soldiers. "Load up the cannons and have the magicians fire back! Take advantage of the shield that the Pope casted and counterattack!"

The soldiers quickly followed through the command and started firing back against the soldiers of Darcero Kingdom.

"Pope, what is going on? I thought this is a surefire way to catch them off guard? We got caught off guard instead! We can’t rely on your shield and the ship’s defenses to last through the barrage the enemy is firing!"

The Pope grits his teeth. Even he didn’t expect the turn around of the plans. If the enemy caught off guard by their arrival, perhaps they could push the enemies while they are still far from the shore, but even when they are still a few kilometers away from the shore, they are already receiving barrage of damage. That means that the intel he received from the soldier that they have implanted before inside the army of the kingdom have given wrong intel...or they have been caught and their intel is already outdated and the enemy have caught fire on what their plan is about to happen.

The Captain then rushes down the barracks underneath and gives out a report.

"Reporting, the enemy is now firing ballistae at our ship and using catapults that fire stones en masse and is now sweeping through the soldiers!"

"What? Shouldn’t my shield should have worked?!" the Pope panicked.

"I don’t know Sir! Whatever they are doing, the stones ignores the shield entirely and is killing the crew upstairs! Almost half had been killed already!"

Selena quickly issued command. "Do not let the battalion get wiped out! Have the magicians cast shields and have some of the abled soldiers to pick up shield and protect their comrades when the catapult is being used! If we stop attacking at them, we will lose more hands to work with the weapons! Focus fire on the enemies controlling the catapult!"

The captain wanted to disagree with the command but the Pope quickly agreed. "Selena is right. If we stop here, the enemy will just kill all of the soldiers. Hiding wouuld just be bad for the ship, fighting and getting the enemies that are firing the catapult would be the better option to take out first. We need to deal with them as soon as possible."

As much as the captain wanted to not do the order, he can’t just avoid that and decided to relay the command to the soldiers.

Selena turned to look at the Pope. "Your Excellency, what is the plan next? I took the command since I thought the intel was foolproof but now that it is compromised, what are we going to do next?"

"I am still thinking! Don’t rush me!" ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

An explosion occurred on the left side of the ship that even those inside the barracks underneath the ship can feel the explosion was near. Before they can understand the situation, the right side followed suit and the Captain who went back up returned but he is wounded and started to make his report.

"Ugh...the backup ships...exploded..."

The Pope and Selena’s eyes went wide when they heard the report. It would have been fine if the ship is still afloat at the moment but if they both exploded, means that the The healers on standby quickly started healing the Captain using their powers but realized something as a few minutes have passed but the wounds that have started healing and closing up did not get better and continue to bleed out.

"What the?! Why is our healing magic not working!?" the healers muttered as they fell helpless at the sight of the dying captain.

Although the Pope was supposed to not heal, he decided to intervene when the healers couldn’t do anything. They can’t afford to lose the captain at this point. But just like the healers, his healing magic is not working. In fact, it seems to have no effect at all as the Captain began to cough blood as his blood slowly create a pool underneath his body.

"Damn it! It seems they decided to imbue their ammunition with anti-healing magic. Our heals won’t work!" the Pope angrily stomps his foot in frustration. As much as the healers tried to help the Captain of the ship, the wounds on his body are too severe and added with the Anti-heal, his wounds are progressively getting worse as time goes on and in a few seconds, he succumbed to his wounds and died.

Then as they are still not sure what to do next, a few soldiers who are firing the cannons shouted as an explosion occurred on the citadel of the ship. That was the place where the supplies and the emergency rations were kept at the moment and the explosion of the citadel is enough to know that their situation is no longer possible to be salvaged. It’s either they surrender or flee before they sink.

However, before they can issue a surrender option, the ship began to erupt in flames and the ship’s hull that was previously reinforced began to flood. They are now on the verge of losing.

The Pope has no choice. "You have pushed me this far...there is no point hiding this now."

Before Selena can react, a burst of light erupted as the Pope unleash his hidden powers. This is his trump card.

...

...

...

The burst of light is something that can be seen even on the beach. Instead of being shocked, the First Prince issued the command.

"The Pope is spotted! Focus fire on the light and attack at that location!"

Liliana and Rakkan standing on the walls are also expecting the burst of light and are specifically waiting for that to happen. They even thought it would take some time before it happens but the activation happened much sooner.

"Didn’t think we would be fighting a divinity again, yeah?" Rakkan grinned.

"Not the first time we fell one of them down. Not the last time we might be able to do so," Liliana calmly said as she raise her staff into the air.

"Magicians! Cast your spells to the strongest power, focus on the burst of light!"

Rakkan raised his gauntlets into the air and the two weapons of the two former heroes clank as a huge magic circle appeared underneath them. The two then began chanting an unknown language, synchronized with one another as light began to envelop on the staffs of the soldiers.

Not only the staves but also the cannons, catapult, mortars, and the Ballista that was just installed.

"Anti-Divinity barrage! Set!" the two former heroes shouted.

The First Prince then point towards the horizon and issued the command.

"FIRE!"

As soon as the command was issued, the soldiers began to fire their attacks, as they attempt to take down the person the kingdom of Luminiera know as the Pope.
