Chapter 413: Curry! [I]

"Are you going to cook again for them later, Mom?" Arthur asked.

"Yes, son. Is there a problem?" Elaina seems curious as to why Arthur suddenly asked.

"Will you be doing this for them for quite some time?" he continued, asking.

"Perhaps. Maybe once they finally have the edge of the battle and have also secured the delayed food supply, perhaps I will."

"Is it necessary for you to join in on this, Mother? I mean, it is dangerous over there. Even though we didn’t set foot on the main battlefield where everyone is stationed, the explosions of the cannons and the attacks are much closer than ever before! Aren’t you afraid things will go south?" Layla also chimed in.

"Although it looks like I am just doing a simple feeding program for the soldiers, this can become a big problem, considering that food is what energizes everyone. If the soldiers didn’t get to eat anything earlier, they wouldn’t be able to force the enemy to retreat, and perhaps the enemy would have succeeded in causing the soldiers to lose, since food is getting scarcer and less for them the more they eat. For us who grow and hunt for food, we have an abundant food supply, and we will not be running out of it pretty soon, even if I feed the soldiers for a year or two."

Elaina is not exaggerating when she said that she can potentially feed the army for at least a year or two. The seven years of saving food and keeping it stored in various storage areas that helped with spoilage allowed Elaina to keep food fresh and ready to be used anytime, even if years have passed since it was first harvested. In short, even if the meat she sliced from an animal was done 3 years ago, as long as it was inside those storage units, they will not rot or go bad.

"Indeed. Food is essential. You can say food is the fuel of humans to properly function every day. And if they are deprived of that supply will not only cause disastrous outcomes, but it will also affect us who are just waiting for the war to finish. And considering what the enemies are trying to do, Arthur and I will be in danger, and all the children who are born as twins. Not only that, but there is also a risk of danger to the halflings and other races that are not human. That is something I don’t want to happen ever to us."

Layla nodded upon hearing it. She heard about the enemies and their ideology that they wanted to spread the moment they won. Not only is it a selfish ideology.

"So, Mom, if you are going to cook again tonight, what food are you planning to make? Don’t tell me it’s still fried rice? We still have plenty of uncooked rice grains stored, right?" Raye tried guessing.

"Haha, nice guess, Raye, but that is incorrect, sadly. I am planning to make a different dish that is perfect for dinner time. And you kids really love it when I cook it, too, which means you lot will also get to eat it once we finish cooking."

When Elaina made a mention of their favorite food, everyone turned to look at each other before exclaiming their guess.

"Curry?!" all four of Elaina’s kids guessed.

Elaina chuckled and nodded since they had indeed guessed correctly. Seeing this, the four celebrated and are excited to eat the curry’s next batch.

"Seriously, you guys still act like kids even though we are already past being childish. We are almost teens, people," Mier tried commenting when Adelaide tapped her shoulder and smiled.

"Hmph, just celebrate with us. I can see in your face how excited you are, but you are just holding everything because Mother is watching."

"S-shut up, Ade! And so what? I am not going to start going giddy just like that," Mier blushed profusely since her facade was easily read by Adelaide.

"It’s fine like kids. Once you reach adulthood, you might wish you had a good childhood as a result if you used your childhood spent do adult things that you will be doing anyway the moment you become a certified adult. Anyways, let’s get back as soon as we can so that we can start cooking and get the food ready by the time the sun goes down."

The kids nodded and raced towards the farmhouse, leaving Elaina trailing behind. She looks back at the battlefield. Elaina frowned after seeing the actual situation. Although things are still in control, if she hadn’t intervened immediately, there is a chance that the soldiers would have started getting less food as a result of the food delay. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

She has a slight guess, and although she is just guessing, she can tell that somehow, her sister might have pulled some strings to sabotage the food. The food that is supposed to arrive at the storage will not be arriving anytime soon, and she can also tell the food is good, as already gone. And there is even a big chance that they do have an accomplice among the soldiers or perhaps among some people to know the location of the food supply that should be arriving soon.

"Looks like my guess is indeed correct, God of Farming. My sister’s first action on crippling the soldiers would be to cripple them from within. Too bad for them, though, I already have planned on sabotaging the sabotage plan you lot are doing," Elaina sighed.

"[You really do know your sister through and through, huh?]" the God of Farming commented.

"Not really. She is easy to read, which is why I have already guessed her next actions. Still, whatever goes through her mind is something else entirely, and I don’t think I will understand that. She is an enigma even for me. I am just thinking ahead, but I am quite sure about what to do next if she actually does something. But I am also keeping myself ready in case she does something that would make me fail to understand her intentions. If it means protecting this kinddom where everyone I deemed important are all living, I will ensure that they will be thwarted in their plans."
