A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods-Chapter 409: What Are You?
Chapter 409: What Are You?
The original beast lord is an enigmatic figure that many beasts living in the forest had revered and worship for their strength and might that can best various enemies that they encounter. Many young beasts dreamed to become someone or greater than the beast lord, allowing them to train and get stronger to become the next in line after the beast lord steps down and hands his title to the next beast.
However, a few years ago, the beast lord disappeared. Followed by some disturbance and a battle that happened, the beast lord is no longer possible to be seen and his throne remains vacant. Many speculates the Beast Lord by some unknown causes or perhaps he died after fighting an enemy that wanted to wreck the forest and sacrificed his life in exchange for the peace of the forest while some skeptical beasts think someone plotted for the beast lord to die and so they exacted a plan that does that exactly.
Even with those theories, there’s only one possibility of the end result after all the scenarios they cook up inside their heads.
The Beast Lord died.
The beast lord might have disappeared a few years ago but his face remains recognizable by many in the forest. And he is one of the beasts that has recognized the former Beast Lord.
And it seems that the former Beast Lord is also aware of his presence, but remained passive and didn’t even talk to him. It just continued eating the food without care of his intentions. As much as the entity wanted to approach the former Beast Lord and ask why he was lounging here, he ultimately decided to not do it. There must be a reason why he remained docile to a human and relinquish his rule as a Beast Lord. As to what that reason is, he didn’t know.
But now that he is already full, it is time for him to return to the forest. He can feel that the meal he have eaten will last him for almost a week or so since compared to humans, they digest food differently allowing them to continue being full for quite some time after eating. There’s no need for him to remain around the farm of the human especially that the farm is near the conflict occurring on the shore. He needed to get out of there as soon as possible in case things will go south and things will get dangerous.
Of course, he won’t just go away and leave like that. Even as a regular beast, he is someone who has manners and everyone who helped him, will gain his gratitude and perhaps a favor from him if there is a chance to repay the help they gave him in the time of his need.
"Farmer, I thank you for the food that you have given me. I also thank everyone who agreed to give me food when I was starving. You could have killed me then and I wouldn’t be able to retaliate considering how weak I have gotten after not eating for days. I will not forget this favor. Someday, I will return the favor."
Elaina smiled. "Your welcome. As long as you enjoy the food, then that’s good enough. Anyways, I have a question I wanted to ask. It’s fine if you don’t answer me and pretend you don’t hear me."
The entity nodded in response. "If it was a question from my benefactor, then I won’t hesitate to answer it as long as I can answer the question." ƒrēenovelkiss.com
"Well, what are you?"
The entity frowned. "Pardon?"
"Ah, I mean what kind of entity are you? You looked like a deer but you walk upright like a human and I have never encountered anyone or any race that is a beast like you. I also doubt you are a full blown monster considering you can talk human language."
"Oh, you mean my race? I was confused for a second there. Anyways, since you are curious, I can answer that. I am a variant of a Faun."
"A variant?" Elaina frowned.
"I see now, no wonder you share characteristics but you differ in one area. Miss Elaina, common Fauns have goat-like horns in their heads and like him, they also walk using two legs. Since he said he was a variant, it seems that Fauns do have other variants of them other than their regular counterparts," Yona explained.
"What she said is correct. Fauns have two categories, the deer and goat variants. I belong on the deer variant which is why I look like a deer. This also allows me to disguise as a regular deer. Does that satisfy your question or do you have additional inquiries?"
"Ah, I am good. Thanks for indulging my curiosity. Considering how this is the first time I have meet someone like you, I was not sure whether you were just cursed human or you were a monster of some sort. Hope you don’t take offense of that."
"No offense taken. Considering I just barged in, its understandable. But don’t worry. Although we do eat meat, we mostly consume fruits, vegetables and other greens. Humans are not part of our diet as they are too similar to us that it felt like we are cannibalizing if we do eat humans for us. No need to be afraid of us."
Elaina nodded and sighed in relief. "Anyways, you are free to come again next time. Considering that even Shardu did not act up upon your approach means you are good in his books."
Hearing that, the Faun’s eyes lit up. "I will keep that in mind. But are you sure you won’t mind if I beg for food here again in the future?"
"Sure, why not? Besides, if someone wanted to eat, I shall feed them food if they wanted. There’s no reason to turn them away if they are not dangerous at all."
And so, the farm and the nameless Faun forged a connection that would be strengthened by food. Although it might sound crazy, this is also the beginning of Fauns slowly getting their regular custom of eating raw food and starting to cook. It will take some time in the future, but for now, a humble Faun will spark that beginning.
As the young faun leaves, he remembers the aftertaste of the fried rice he have eaten. It was the best food he have eaten in his entire life. And he is happy to be proven wrong that not all humans are inherently evil. Sometimes, there are people who would be happy to accompany you even if you are not a human.
Now that he has eaten, he will return to his home and rest. Now that he have regained his satiety, he needed to conserve energy and rest. He will not forget this favor for his entire life. Perhaps he can offer an offering that would be beneficial to the farmer. But for now, time to recover the energy he used up wasting these past few days just to find food.
