A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods-Chapter 406: Fried Rice
Chapter 406: Fried Rice
A week has passed and the war continues to rage on. Even though the Luminiera Kingdom’s terrain is quite disadvantageous for them, they still managed to hold on and keep the battle ongoing. The Darcero Kingdom’s efforts of sinking every ship are working, but for some unknown they keep managing to repair the ship and keep it afloat for so long that the mages of the Darcero Kingdom have been rotating one after another just to shoot the ship down.
And yet the ship remains steady and strong, seemingly absorbing all the damage coming from both the cannonballs and even the strongest magic spells bombarded at them. But since the forces of Darcero Kingdom are still in the advantage, the battle rages on and on.
But like always, the war is nothing for Elaina. Considering the current situation in the battlefield, Elaina decided to do some cooking this time around. She received some news from Troy that the battle remains in a stalemate and both sides seems unable to push down the other, causing for a prolonged battle already.
While the battle against the Luminiera Kingdom rages on, Elaina had an idea on how to help the soldiers bolster their strength and ensure that they will be remaining in tip-top shape, ready to fight.
"I think it is time for me to do some cooking." frёeweɓηovel_coɱ
Throughout the years, Elaina has been practicing on cooking diligently. Although she is only cooking mostly simple dishes, she has been doing it for almost everyday to the point that she can memorize every single process on making the dish even when blindfolded or even if she closed her eyes.
Of course, with her constant practice and constant cooking attempts, the mastery of her cooking reaches quite far enough. Her mastery is not yet on par with Douglas’s cooking, but she was more noteworthy than a regular cook. She can even open an eatery by herself and she can already gain massive following for her food.
Considering that cooking mastery is much quicker in leveling compared to farming, her mastery over it has already reached level 5. The higher the level of her mastery, the longer it will take for her to receive mastery further. Therefore, she will have to continue cooking again and again to obtain more mastery points.
The Goddess of Cooking is quite busy to the point that she barely gave Elaina pointers after all these years. Sure, she have helped Elaina time and time again from various problems she have in terms of cooking, but it wasn’t as hands on as the God of Farming or the other gods and goddesses who has connection to her. But considering how many people she have blessed, Elaina understood why.
"Mom, is it really necessary for us to use this big wok just to cook? I think this one is very big..." Arthur frowned as everyone helped each other to carry the wok to the outdoor cooking area in the farm where Elaina does the cooking during picnics or barbeque party. This time, it wasn’t used for that, but for cooking a large portion of fried rice.
"Considering that Mother is planning to cook for an entire army? Then yes, this wok is quite big but appropriate. In fact, it might not be enough even, considering that there are many soldiers in the frontlines." Adelaide explained.
"Mom, I will help," Raye quickly said.
"Ah, no fair! Of course I will help as well!" Arthur also chimed in, not wanting to be left behind.
"Then I will be regulating the intensity of the flames then. Mother can focus on cooking then," Adelaide said as she started making fire underneath the wok.
"Thanks kids, I appreciate all the help!"
The boys then started carrying the ingredients that are necessary for cooking fried rice. Elaina already cooked regular rice and all that’s left is for the additional cooking to make the fried rice. As for why fried rice, well, Elaina has been stacking lots of rice last summer harvest. She was preparing for the eventual food shortage and decided to store lots of wheat and rice as they are the grains that can be stored for a long time without worrying about them decaying or getting bad. She also stock corn but she plans to use them as feed for the Hencluckles instead of primary consumption.
But since she have stored quite a lot, Elaina ended up having lots of supply as a result. So to slowly chip on the stored grains, Elaina decided that she will use this chance to give morale to the soldiers and to also give them a slight boost of power.
With Elaina’s mastery over cooking, Elaina’s cooked foods gain small buffs that are a bit minor, but something that are good to have. In fact, they shouldn’t be underestimated as one small buff is sometimes the only thing that can tip a stalemate battle.
And besides, Elaina wanted to test something. Since cooked rice received a buff after she cooked it, will the buffs get stacked on the rice once it becomes fried rice? Or will the fried rice dish receive a new buff, overwriting the former buff with a new one?
This might be the first time she will be cooking a big batch of food but she is not afraid to cook now compared to before. She might still be far from the level that Douglas have in cooking, but that doesn’t mean she wasn’t someone who can do something like that.
With the flames stoked over the wok, the flame quickly heats up the wok’s surface. This is enough heat for Elaina to put in the cooking oil over at the wok and heat up the oil as Raye and Arthur prepares the ingredients. Although these boys are quite troublemakers, Elaina can confidently say that their interest in cooking is quite high. In fact, both of the boys are quite efficient in preparing ingredients that Elaina was quite amazed by how fast they prepare ingredients for cooking to the point that when they ask if they can help her during cooking, she will give them the task of handling the ingredients.
Quick and precise cuts and peeling, the spices are now ready for the first oil. First, garlic. Thanks to both Raye and Arthur’s quick peeling and chopping skills, it didn’t take them long to have the garlic chopped finely. And Elaina quickly dropped them on the hot cooking oil, giving the crackle of the hot oil as soon as the garlic and the hot oil came into contact with each other.
Elaina stirs the wok for a bit and when the garlic starts to turn brownish, Elaina then took the chopped onion from the boys and dropped it as well, giving off the scent of the fried garlic and onion slowly blending together. Thankfully, she isn’t pregnant anymore, otherwise, the smell alone would have already sent Elaina vomiting. Right now though? The smell is quite good especially for fresh garlic and onion.
Once the two ingredients are now fried on the hot oil real good, Elaina readies the finely chopped meat to cook alongside the friend garlic and onion. Normally, frying meat would take some time, but since they were finely chopped, cooking them will be quick. As soon as she drop the raw meat to the hot oil, the meat was quickly being cooked, allowing Elaina to proceed on adding the next vital ingredient.
Elaina readies the whipped eggs, ready to be cooked as scrambled eggs in unison to the fried chopped meat. This time around, Elaina used the hencluckle eggs as many have already been accustomed to the hencluckle eggs and will not be afraid to eat them anymore. Elaina then mixed the whipped eggs to the oil and cooking them. Normally, if one cook scramble eggs, once the eggs are ready, they can now be removed and put on the plate, but Elaina is not yet done.
With the scrambled eggs and meat mixed and ready for the final process, Elaina mixed in the cooked rice to the wok and started to mix the ingredients together. Elaina continues to mix the ingredients before she started pouring some seasonings on it. Salt and monosodium glutamate which enhances the food’s flavor by a lot. Although the invention of the monosodium glutamate was just a recent thing, the impact of the spice was enough to make food taste much better.
Once the rice is turning into brownish in color, Elaina mixed in the final ingredient, chopped spring onions for the greens of the fried rice. The moment she was done, the smell of the fried rice wafted all around the place, that made her children droll while watching Elaina cook.
"M-mom? I know that this food was supposed to be for the soldiers...but can we have a portion as well?" Adelaide tried using her child-like status. After all, she is starting to drool just by smelling the fried rice.
"What do you mean portion, Ade? Eat as much as you all want! There’s a lot of fried rice around and if it runs out, I will cook again. Go and unleash your beast! That also includes to you two, boys." Elaina smiled.
Hearing that, the three’s eyes lit up and stopped hesitating. It is time to eat.
