A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods-Chapter 387: Brainwashing [I]

Elaina is feeling very dizzy while she is opening her eyes. It was the same feeling when she was trying to get drunk and open her eyes later on. It was a rough feeling but thankfully, even though it felt like a hangover, she didn’t feel ready to puke whatever she ate that day.

The odd thing is, she can’t remember what she has just done just now and is very confused about what happened. The last thing she remembered was the conversation she had with Julia. The rest of the experience remained blurred and it was a bit something concerning that she couldn’t even remember the slightest to the last memory.

"Ugh..." groggily opening her eyes, she slowly realized that she had been unconscious earlier and she just awakened from her slumber on the couch.

Looking around, she soon got confused about what was happening. Her eyes are a bit blurry so she rubs it for a bit before she gets a clear view of what is happening and the first person that comes into her eyesight is Julia who is sitting on a smaller sofa that is meant for one person with Adelaide currently hugging her.

She looked around more and soon, she saw both her Grandma and Grandpa who seemed to be lost in thought and were seemingly thinking deeply about something she didn’t know. Then, on the wooden chair, is someone who instantly makes her blood boil.

’Ah, I remember now.’

Elaina soon remembered what happened earlier and the missing memory that felt a bit blank before was soon filled and she is now remembering the next thing that happened before she collapsed for unknown reason.

"What is that bastard doing inside my house?!" Elaina stood up from the sofa as she decided to confront Alfred and the people around her over the reason that the former was currently with them inside the farmhouse without her permission.

"Relax, my dear. Calm down and keep your anger subside for a bit. This man is under our scrutiny and protection so we can’t let you get your hands off of him for now," Liliana calmly said while also watching over Elaina’s movements. One movement that will indicate Elaina attacking, will subdue her once more.

"I didn’t want him to be in here! He needed to return to his kingdom and rot there!"

"Elaina, relax and calm down for once. We understand very much what you wanted and we also wanted to do the same to him...however, be reasonable and stop your outbursts," Rakkan quickly stopped Elaina from lunging at him.

"And what? That he wants me to forgive him? Even though he wanted to force me to abort my twins over some sh*tty religion that enforces the rule that makes twins some sort of "evil"?! No. Even if he is the father of my children, he has already surpassed the part where I would be easily forgiving him."

Liliana sighed and told Elaina something that they might have been currently suspecting.

"Elaina, I think your husband is currently being brainwashed."

"Huh? Brainwashed? What nonsense..."

Liliana cut her off and explained further.

"It sounded ridiculous right? But I think we hit the mark this time around. Considering that everyone in Luminiera Kingdom seems to be totally against twins, there is something wrong with their teachings and it was some kind of teaching that would make people totally angry especially the culling of twins for no reason aside from being called evil by them. Only those total fanatics would think of that. However, a whole kingdom is fine with it? That is not something that should be happening. From the looks of it, everyone in Luminiera Kingdom has been brainwashed by this nonsense they are giving, causing them to believe the religion without thinking twice.

"If that is the case, then why am I not even affected? I have stayed in Luminiera Kingdom for a long time but I abhor that religion so much that I would prefer not to recognize that religion even though that was the primary religion in the kingdom."

"Because you openly despise them and from the looks of it, only those totally vulnerable to mind magic would get affected. Considering you can’t even detect mana and you are totally immune to any mind-warping magic, that is very easy to avoid and you will not have any problem with it. When everyone is now believing their teachings, you remain unaffected, leaving you thinking that you might not understand their reasons. Right now, Alfred seems to have broken from this spell and has expressed his guilt. It’s still too soon to know if he was genuine or not, but we can continue to talk to him first."

Elaina paused and indeed strike her weird. The religion just appeared when Alfred became the emperor and started to spread their word and in just a year, became the main religion of the kingdom. It was very weird considering that many people were devoted to the respective gods they believed in and all of a sudden, they converted to the religion that those people from the church decided to preach.

Even her parents were one of them. She knows her parents are terrible but they are not totally evil people. Otherwise, Elaina and her siblings would have died long ago if they were and they would not have adulthood as a result. They just suck big time when they converted to the religion and became followers of the church. Then, Elaina was struck with an irregularity that she found a bit odd.

In other religions, they worship a god. They do praise the Creator God, but each religion focuses on a major god below the Creator God like the God of Farming, the Goddess of Taming, and many others. Then there’s the religion of Luminiera Kingdom. Since she knows who they are worshipping, it is a bit strange that no one seems to have an idea of what kind of church the church is even worshipping.

"Grandma, Grandpa, do not answer my question. This question is something that is a question for Alfred."

The two nodded and Elaina faced Alfred. Despite her anger at him, she can’t help but say to herself that she still loves him. But it all faded when he attacked and demanded the death of the twins. That was when all the love for him faded. So seeing him again, Elaina no longer feels the spark of love that she was feeling before. Her heart has been wounded and will have a long scar that will take almost forever to heal. So even if this matter is indeed true, she will not be joining Alfred again and be his wife. She had enough. This is just a little confirmation of whether the situation is true and also free the poor man out of the misery he was currently stuck in.

"Alfred. Answer my question. I needed to confirm something."

"...Yes. If it means you will believe my words, then I will. I know I will not be forgiven but I will still ask for your forgiveness."

Elaina is holding herself back as much as she can. Even though her fist is already forming and is ready to wallop straight to Alfred’s pathetic face, she holds herself back as much as she can. She needed confirmation first.

"Who is the god that the church is worshipping right now?"

This is one thing she tried to understand in the past because Alfred also converted to this religion back then. However, despite trying to understand the gist of their goals and their ways, Elaina can’t really go into a full understanding of the thing, which made her go to people who did convert to this religion. And there is one consistent thing that they tried to avoid.

Anyone who tries to mention it would try but fail. The moment they are about to spell this, they would start biting their tongue, bleed themselves, or drown themselves in their blood and eliminate themselves. Two maids died this way and Elaina has to clean up the situation but for some reason, no one else can remember who these dead people were. It was like their traces of existence had been wiped out the moment they died. It was something that even Elaina has discovered in the past but since she has no idea what is happening, she decided to actively avoid it. It was such a bizarre way at first that Elaina stopped asking these people about their religion and just accepted that they had converted to it.

At first, Alfred was about to say something. However, his mind suddenly shifted. Something in his mind was jumbling whatever he was about to do. He tried his best to talk but then when he opened his mouth, instead of speaking... he put out his mouth out before slamming his mouth shut.

PSSSH

Blood sprays out...but not from the tongue of Alfred, but from Elaina’s finger as Alfred bit on her finger that she put in his mouth last second. Instead of finishing the bite, he bit her finger, stopping his attempt to bleed himself.

"Julia! Knock him out! Via hypnosis or anything that would stop him from moving!"

Julia who is just watching the events quickly sprang to action and cast a spell, "[Sleep]"

The effect was instant and Alfred who was biting Elaina’s finger was knocked out.

As soon as Elaina retrieved her finger, the bite was so deep that if Alfred had not been knocked out sooner, there was a possibility he would just snap Elaina’s finger.

Liliana and Rakkan frowned on this. "What was that Elaina? Why ask him the question about that and shove your finger in his mouth?"

Elaina’s face went serious. "Thanks to the revelation that they have been brainwashed. As for Alfred getting rid of the brainwashing, that is a lie. He is still brainwashed. The biting action is proof that he has yet to break free from it. If we need to talk with him without any malice or any implanted knowledge in his mind, we need to clear his mind."
