Chapter 385: Interrogation

Adelaide has a rough story about her father and how her mother raised them all alone as a farmer. Considering how strong her mother was and how great of a magician Julia was, she was a bit confused as to why they were more chill and would only engage in a fight during dangerous situations or if they went to hunt monsters in the forest to sell or gather their meat.

Hearing more of the story soon allowed Adelaide to piece by piece learn how the twins were born. Of course, she still has no idea that much as Julia refuses to tell more, but it seems that today will be the day she will be able to learn more about this matter.

Being the most sensible of the two, Adelaide lightly explained the things she learned to her twin. She still didn’t tell Arthur about their father who was knocked out by their great-grandfather but she did tell him about their great-grandparents and although he seemed to not understand much, hearing the word "hero" seemed to spark something in his eyes.

Thanks to the two knocking both their parents, the situation didn’t escalate too much and ended much earlier. Of course, nothing might change if their mother goes berserk once more but now with their great grandparents on the case and her Aunt Julia ready to restrain her again, she is not too worried.

Compared to her, Arthur is less interested in their family drama and decides to ditch it and play with the mermaid instead. But she cannot blame Arthur, for a one-year-old kid, it is very normal for them to not care if it doesn’t seem fun to them. But for her who didn’t really care about playing anymore, this matter is something she needed to know. It’s a good way to understand their mother’s reasoning and why she is a single mother considering things are hard for a single mother to run a family all on their own.

Following Julia, Adelaide entered the farmhouse. Her great-grandmother put Elaina on the sofa, while her great-grandfather put down the person who was supposed to be her father on the floor. The floor without a carpet, to be precise.

"Thankfully, I have self-restraint, otherwise, I might have snapped his body into two when I decided to carry him."

Julia scratches her head seeing this. "Are you sure that it is fine to put him inside the farmhouse? Sis would surely get really angry if she found out about this."

"And what do you think we should actually do? Put this guy outside the house and let him get swallowed by the dirt? Well, that is indeed a welcome thing...but I would rather deal with this guy sooner. Anyways..."

Adelaide’s Grandfather, Rakkan kicked the unconscious guy on the ground. It was a light kick but had enough force to hurt.

"Hey, who said you can sleep? No one ever said you can. I just lightly made you collapse but I didn’t make you totally unconscious. Quit that acting and wake up if you don’t want to get blasted by the shoe."

Adelaide can easily tell that the guy seems to be talking normally but the weight in his voice is something clear for her. He is holding back. Holding back his urge to truthfully kick him and perhaps, kill him. He is just doing his best not to do anything and break the guy before their confrontation is over.

With the guy being intimidated by my great-grandfather’s words, he stood up and immediately kneeled on the ground.

"I am really sorry for all the things I have done!"

Rakkan quickly laughed at hearing this. It was like he heard the funniest joke he ever heard in his life.

"Hah, why are you apologizing to me? Am I the one who you have wronged? NO."

Adelaide tugged on Julia’s sleeves again.

"Aunty, what did my father actually do for my great-grandparents to be this angry?"

Julia sighed.

"Well, your father cheated on your Mother with your Mother’s own sister. Your mother found out about him and decided to leave him before he realized it since your mother didn’t want to confront him and make things worse. And since she was carrying you, twins, during that time, she wanted to make the two of you safe since the custom in the kingdom is that twins are cursed and would need to be killed, which is also one of the things that made Elaina escape sooner before it was discovered since your father is in agreement in that religion plot. Then, because of some things, your mother arrived here and purchased the farm but he ended up ruining it when he and his soldiers arrived to drag back your mother again. She refused and fought with him at that time. There’s more to that, but it’s too long."

Adelaide finally understood Elaina’s anger. It’s not just some regular anger she has been holding on to, she is royally pissed by him since he was the main reason for everything. Adelaide would have understood it if there was just some slight misunderstanding like some things that would have been easily resolved by talk but hearing this cheating scandal was indeed not a great idea. And learning about the twins being cursed thing, it was also a bit f*cked up. No wonder she decided to escape. A f*cked up religion with a f*cked up dad was the worst thing ever and Elaina had to escape from that.

This made Adelaide pissed off.

"I needed to punch him..." Adelaide formed her hands into fists.

"Oy, oy, stop that Ade. You are still a baby, you can’t do that right now, punch him once you are older, that will deal more damage."

Adelaide couldn’t help but chuckle a bit after hearing Julia’s suggestion. It was not because it was a bad thing that she couldn’t punch her dad, but because she was still too young and she couldn’t hurt him just yet. Indeed, once she gets older, beating the crap out of her deadbeat dad would be more impactful than now.

Liliana who just finished healing Elaina and calming her nerves down, immediately switched to her interrogation mode. It is something she does to interrogate people and make them talk. It was described by many who experienced it to be hell itself if you don’t talk much. Answering truthfully would ease the pain but it’s not always like that and things are just not that simple.

Seeing this firsthand made Adelaide shudder a bit that even if she was an adult in her mind, her body instinctively hid behind Julia who immediately put her arms on her to hold her.

Despite the pressure, Liliana doesn’t care much and just focuses on Alfred who grits his teeth.

"So, Young Man who decided to play with fire, what are you doing here? Why are you trying to destroy the peace and harmony of the family that your ex-wife built by your arrival?"

"I just came here to apologize to Elaina! I still love her and I can’t afford to lose her!"

Rakkan wanted to hit the guy but Liliana intervened. "Don’t. You can’t show too much violence, especially in front of a kid. They will remember it."

Rakkan looks at Adelaide holding Julia’s arms and realizing the spectators, he immediately behaves and waves his hands on her like someone who wants to dote on his great-granddaughter.

Since Rakkan backed down, Liliana continued the questioning.

"I am sure you are indeed here for that as well. But I can tell that you have not come here primarily just because of that. Because if you did, you would have fixed this problem long ago and things would have not progressed for already a year. You inconsiderate bastard."

"Language, dear. A kid is watching us."

Liliana heard that and cleared her throat. As a result of Rakkan saying it, Alfred who was unaware of Adelaide before soon found her, and his eyes went wide. Adelaide also finally had a clear view of her bastard father as well.

Looking at him, he looks like the older version of Arthur. He is indeed handsome if only not for his haggard face. If that was removed, things would have been better.

"Is that my daughter?"

Liliana quickly snapped back. "Indeed. One of the twins, and the daughter that you wanted to be aborted and killed before they were born for the sake of a stupid religious tradition that didn’t make sense."

Arthur seems to not have heard it and decides to stand up and approach. But Liliana is not so merciful for him to be able to freely approach her like nothing.

With a quick move on her hand, Liliana dragged Alfred back to his former position using some telekinetic ability and a few handcuffs appeared on Alfred’s hands and legs, stopping him from moving further.

"You really think you can just come and get close? You are not fit of a father, Alfred. I would have beaten you up if little Adelaide here is a bit older but I will spare you for now as it will be a nasty business if I show him your unsightly face getting thrashed. Now, back to the topic. What are you doing here?"

"I...I needed to warn you guys. War is about to spark soon."

Rakkan frowned and approached Alfred. "What are you talking about?"

"I came to warn Elaina that the Kingdom of Luminiera is about to wage war on the Kingdom of Darcero by the leadership of her sister."
