A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods-Chapter 383: Job Change and Raye’s Development

No one has ever become a monster caretaker in their entire life considering that monsters are something that are meant to be killed and not be used as regular pets or livestock like regular animals can. One can argue that it’s more possible to make a pet out of a grizzly bear or a polar bear than a monster like Hencluckle.

But Elaina did it and is currently expanding her farm animals with more monsters to be tamed in the future. Yona can feel herself following Elaina and she is quite sure about this move. She didn’t want to just blindly follow Elaina, she also wanted to help out and to grow as a person. She didn’t want to think that she was just nothing but a hermit even if Elaina had made the effort to bring her back to the civilization after the end of the Witch Hunts. If she didn’t make a move right now, then who will? Elaina again? She refuses to just stay still and wait. She wanted to be the first one to make a move.

And so, after the day that Yona saw how Elaina tames a monster for the first time and how a literal Goddess gave Elaina various things to continue taming monsters, she got into deep thinking. One that she didn’t think about before. What if she becomes the caretaker of these new monsters? She has experience in raising slimes and although they are not as dangerous as most monsters that are tamed by Elaina, they are still something that is dangerous and only a few people consider them as pets or livestock. Even with the existence of a Slime Hutch, there are still controversies that raising a slime brings a question to the people.

"If they are not monsters, why are they not categorized as animals?"

And so, Yona spent her time under the tree and while she was there, she began her observation with the bees. It was the first time she had come very close to bees before. She wanted to harvest honey before, but she didn’t want to do so. However, right now, being this close is something she will never experience again. So why not do it right now? She had some knowledge of them and perhaps, by studying these monsters up close, she will discover something that she can only discover on monsters?

It didn’t take long for Yona to deeply immerse herself that she didn’t realize Elaina had already been keeping her eye on her. It is something she didn’t expect and seeing Elaina come up to her, she steeled herself and decided that at that time, it was time for her to reveal her intention. She didn’t want to remain as a hermit on Elaina’s farm and reap the benefits even though she had not brought any sort of benefit.

"Miss Elaina, considering that you are going to be taming more monsters in the future, could I help you in becoming the caretaker of these monsters?"

One question that could determine herself. It is alright if she refuses. She is not forcing her to accept her suggestion. But if she does...what will she do? Will she do a good job?

Elaina was startled by what Yona said to her. Something she wouldn’t expect she would say. She thought that Yona would follow the work of Julia and become some sort of mentor for her. After all, most interests Julia is something that Yona has been doing for many years as a witch.

"May I ask why you wanted to become one? I mean, it’s not a bad thing, but I just wanted to know why you wanted to suddenly do this. You seemed to be more focused on magic, rituals, and making some weird medicines with Julia before."

"They are not weird...but they are experimental so you are maybe right, but still, I want a change. Just like how I changed myself to return to civilization instead of refusing and keeping myself as a hermit. As someone who has been saved by you on that kind of future, I wanted to do something that can benefit the farm and yet also contribute to my interests as well. Becoming a caretaker for the monsters that you will be taming is something that I am confident to do. I am not just going to be doing it because I think it was cool or anything like that."

Elaina scratches her head. "Just so you know, I will not just be taming regular monsters but also other monsters that seemed unconventional to be tamed. Not just the bees and the crabs, but also monsters that are similar to regular livestock. Will you still accept the challenge then?"

Yona grinned. "Even better. If you plan to tame more, that’s even better for me. But I am worried I might not be able to work a lot if you plan to keep expanding your roster of tamed monsters in the future."

"Don’t worry, Curaj is already your partner in this job, and in the future, I might hire workers who are willing to take care of monsters. You will not be alone in the struggle."

So, after a few more discussions, Elaina and Yona arrived at the conclusion that Yona would be becoming one of the caretakers of the monsters. She will be assigned to take care of the bees and the Planting Pot-Shelled Crabs right now while Curaj will remain on his task of taking care of the livestock monsters. That way, once the monsters increase, Elaina has a way to differentiate which of the two worker groups should they belong to.

A month has passed since Elaina adopted Raye. Thanks to the ring that allows Raye to hide his devil features, the adoption process went smoothly and now Elaina is considered as Elaina’s son. It was a nerve-wracking situation at first when they wanted to verify his identity and thankfully, things didn’t turn ugly and the official papers of Raye have been confirmed.

Still, due to the rules set by the Kingdom of Darcero, Elaina has to also register Raye as part of the Devil People. That way, the Devil People will not be suspicious of the situation and they will not question Elaina in the future. It is also a way of passage that will allow Elaina and Raye entry to the land of the underground town that the Devil People are using to live on and the only place they can hide from discrimination and danger and has been protected by the Royal Guards for years.

Overall, the process didn’t take too long and it ended up with Raye officially recognized by the Devil People as one of them.

Just like her twins, Elaina didn’t give Raye less attention and she didn’t show any favoritism. Even if Raye is adopted, Elaina treats Raye as her son even if he is not someone who came out from her womb.

Still, unlike humans, Raye’s growth is fast and even though he is still a month old, he is now able to walk and do actions that only one-year-old kids can do. Elaina suspected Raye at first to be someone like Adelaide who is a reincarnated person, but it seems that wasn’t the case. However, Raye is more similar to Arthur in terms of development.

The way he only watches something once and then he learns it, is very similar to Arthur indeed. This brings the attention of Julia who has noticed this and is currently acting teacher of the kids. While Elaina is working, Julia is the one who is teaching them manners and regular knowledge that they need to know. Adelaide is helping with this task right now since she is a reincarnated person and she knows most of the things that Julia teaches unless it was something new that she didn’t experience back when she was still alive.

"Seriously, Sis. If I didn’t see you bring Raye with you back when you went to find the ingredients for the ritual back then, I wouldn’t believe that Raye is your adopted son. Just by my observations alone, Raye and Arthur are very much alike. They are more like the twin instead of Adelaide," Julia revealed to Elaina.

"I hate to admit, but Aunt Julia is correct. Sooner or later, those two will catch up fast on my knowledge and I will be left to dust at this rate."

Elaina chuckled and pat Adelaide’s shoulders. "It’s alright, Ade. It’s not like you are racing with both of them in terms of adaptability, yes? And besides, you three are still young, things will still change so don’t worry."

Just as the three are busy in their discussion, Julia’s attention snaps and she immediately stands up and looks outside the window.

"Julia? What’s wrong?"

"Someone is currently at the front gate. He entered the barrier’s edge right now, allowing me to detect this person’s arrival."

"Do you know who it is? Is it Dr. Fey?"

"No. It’s a guy but the problem is that he is hiding his identity. He is wearing some sort of poncho that hides his facial features. Are you looking forward to a visitor today, Sis?"

Elaina frowned. She didn’t have any scheduled visitors that she anticipated to arrive. "Not that I can think of."

Julia clicks her tongue. "In that case, get ready. If this guy decides to breach the gate, I will ensure that this person will not be able to break free."

On the other hand, behind the gate, the person who is the main reason that Elaina left the kingdom of Luminiera in the first place is currently looking at the gate with a grim look on his face. Compared to the last time Elaina had seen him, he had aged a lot and his golden hair looked duller than usual.
