A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods-Chapter 378: Monster Taming Again [II]
Chapter 378: Monster Taming Again [II]
"I think I found our first target of monsters to tame."
"Huh? Where?" Yona looked around with a confused look on her face.
"Those pots that we are seeing that looked out of place. Those things are what we are going to tame."
"Eh? Wait a minute, are you saying those are monsters?" Yona is in disbelief.
"Pretty much, yeah. Although this is the first time I have seen them, I have read about them in a book. They are known as Planting Pot-Shell Crabs. However, they can cause paralysis if carelessly approached, which is why we needed to ensure they didn’t spew out any paralysis powder or we became immune to paralysis for a short period of time."
"I see. Although I do not see it as a monster, if you say this is indeed a monster and can cause paralysis if approached, then I think I do have a solution. I can make you temporarily immune to paralysis. Then you tame the monsters during that period. The spell only lasts for 2 minutes and 30 seconds so if you wanted to tame it, we need to tame one during that period then repeat again if you wanted to tame more," Yona said to Elaina.
"Good to know. Can you help me with that?"
"Sure, should I cast it now?"
"Wait, let me get my tools to tame the monsters before you do."
The first thing she took out was the Taming Gloves. Although she still didn’t understand how these gloves could start taming monsters, she didn’t ask about their properties and if they could be mass-produced. After all, if one tries to tame without this, aren’t they just asking for a beating? And besides, it looks like it is just a regular black glove so maybe it wasn’t that hard to replicate this.
Since Elaina is already planning to start taming and the Goddess of Taming is not talking, that means she is not around. Elaina will have to rely on herself to tame the Planting Pot-Shelled Crabs this time around.
Once Elaina had equipped the gloves in her hands and had worn her protective clothing to reduce the damage the monsters would do to her, she turned to the witch and spread her arms.
"I am ready to go. Cast the spell."
Yona nodded and with a snap of her fingers, bright lights enveloped Elaina’s body and a strange surge of magic seemed to seep around her skin. It didn’t flow in her body but it seemed this thing was only enveloping her body to make a "shield".
"Done. Go now, Miss Elaina. Time is counting down for the spell."
Elaina nodded and headed to the Planting Pot-Shelled Crabs slowly. They are not moving and they do still look like regular ceramic pots at first glance but since the entry on the Almanac appeared, Elaina is quite sure that the thing before her is those monsters and not the regular ceramic pots.
Her suspicion was confirmed since the moment she approached one of them, it stood up and began to spray a yellow powder on Elaina’s face. Thankfully, that powder bounced back from Elaina, stopping it from affecting Elaina. Elaina was afraid it would start running after spraying that, but it didn’t. Instead, it starts to make a "CLACK CLACK" sound using its tiny pincers. Compared to the pincers of real crabs, their pincers looked like mini clothespins and they lack the danger that is posed by regular pincers. free𝑤ebnovel.com
Based on the Almanac’s bestiary information, this monster takes its food by photosynthesizing so unlike other monsters where a bait could help, this one does not need any bait. Elaina can go straight to the taming process.
"If I remember correctly..." Elaina recalled how she does the taming process with the hencluckle. Elaina lifted one up and Elaina was surprised by how light the thing was. She thought it would be a bit heavy since it was technically a ceramic pot but to her surprise, it was so light that even the regular ceramic pot without any soil inside would be heavier than the crab itself.
The crab started to scramble and spray the paralysis powder a few times, clouding the area, trying to get away but because Elaina held it carefully, even if it tried to move around, it would not be able to move away and escape. So before the buff of the paralysis immunity fades, Elaina starts caressing the crab like a pet. She is not sure if it is working or not.
At first, Elaina is quite sure that nothing is happening but soon enough, the crab started to calm down and it didn’t take long for it to start making cute sounds that Elaina was not expecting to hear.
"Are crabs supposed to make those kinds of sounds?"
Elaina put the Planting Pot-Shelled Crab on her hands and instead of attacking and making any sort of spraying actions like it did earlier, it didn’t do anything and instead, just looked at Elaina, puzzled at the human before it.
Before Elaina can fully confirm that she has indeed, done it, the Goddess of Taming happily sends a message to Elaina.
"[Congratulations Elaina for taming a monster all on your own! And it’s a Planting Pot-Shelled Crab to boot! One that can really help with your farm’s beautification thanks to their eternal flowers growing on their shells!]"
"Goddess of Taming, you are watching?"
"[A few minutes ago. I just arrived, you see. I wouldn’t even know you started taming monsters again if not for the God of Farming informing me of your current activity. He said that he needed me to come and check on you since you are doing some tasks related to taming and he is worried you will get hurt in the process. Tsk, what a caring god, indeed.]" the Goddess of Taming jokingly said to Elaina.
"[Hey, just because I am also busy working here, doesn’t mean I can’t see what you are sending to Elaina, you little...]" the God of Farming sent.
"[Ignore the guy, anyways, congrats since you have tamed one successfully. I didn’t expect you to start taming monsters all of a sudden.]"
"Just had a thought, I wanted to expand the animals in the farm at least. Hencluckles and Wild Cows are good...but I wanted more variety. What’s the use of our farm’s big space if I don’t use it."
"[True. But what made you tame this little creature? Truth to be told, you cannot replant the plants growing on their back, otherwise, they will die.]"
"Haha, don’t worry. I don’t even plan to use those flowers as regular plants. I have an idea that might help with the business and might also help me gain a new resource I can sell and harvest regularly."
"[Is that so? Well, whatever you are planning to do, then that also means you are planning to tame a lot of them, yes?]"
"Indeed. My only problem would be how should I bring them back to the farm."
"[Ah, I will solve that problem then. Here, it’s a little power blessing from me. It has little slots at the moment but if you increase your mastery of your Taming skill, then the space inside will also increase.]"
She heard a snap and the Planting Pot-Shelled Crab on her hand disappeared and turned into a light before heading on Elaina’s hands.
"What was that?"
"[I gave you my blessing. I called it a Portable Cage. It is some kind of space magic type of spell that allows you to store tamed monsters regardless of the size inside it. It will only count a limited number of slots for tamed monsters but once you put one inside, the monster will freeze in time and will be stored there. As an additional power, it will heal any injured tamed monsters over time until you bring them out.]"
"I can use this spell even though I can’t use magic? How do I take them out or view them?" Elaina asked.
"[It is indeed magic, but it doesn’t use any mana to use. It was like an installed pocket dimension or something like that. If someone asks, just tell them that it is a blessing of the Goddess of Taming and they will understand. This spell is pretty rare but pretty well-known by many. This will also help you gain recognition from others that you are an official tamer. As for how to use it, just yell "Cage!" and put any of your hands in front of you to create an entrance that will allow you to view the cages where the monsters are placed. Touching the cage’s door will open it and take the monster out in the open. To put the monster back into the cage, just touch them and say "Cage" once more.]"
Elaina nodded and mentally made a note of it. Then, her thought process was interrupted by Yona.
"Miss Elaina! The spell’s duration is running out, you should move away from the area for a bit!"
Hearing this, Elaina immediately left the area of the crabs, just enough time before the spell ran out.
"Did you succeed, Miss Elaina?" Yona asked.
Elaina grinned and nodded. "Indeed."
She then raised her right hand and yelled. "CAGE!"
As soon as she did, the spell activated and the entrance of the pocket space appeared before them. Inside it was a lone cage that had the previously tamed Planting Pot-Shelled Crab inside.
"You can use magic, Miss Elaina?! I thought you can’t use magic?"
"Nah, although this is indeed a magic skill, I still couldn’t use it. However, thanks to the blessing given to me by the Goddess of Taming, I am now officially treated as a tamer. With this power, no one will doubt my identity as a proper tamer."
