A New Life In The Beast World-Chapter 103: Are You Really Mates?

Once Serena was done explaining everything, she headed back to the hut to get more water and food for the wild birds. Theo glanced over at them, surprised to see Jason trailing behind her.

"Why are you here so early?" Theo asked as he handed Serena the vegetable scraps.

"Davis kicked him out of the hut." Serena answered, taking the scraps before moving to get some clean water.

"Ah..." Theo nodded his head in understanding, going to back look after the food. "I’m surprised that that rabbit beastman could deal with you for so long."

Jason frowned, plopping down next to Theo. "I’m not that bad..."

Theo raised an eyebrow, but decided not to say anything. Serena, meanwhile, just shook her head and went back to the coop, glad Jason wasn’t interested in what she did earlier.

However the moment Serena disappeared from sight, Jason turned to Theo and asked, "Hey Theo, can I ask you something?"

"You’re going to anyway so why ask.." Theo grumbled, checking on the roasting meat.

"Well..." Jason pursed his lips, seeming to look for the right words. "Don’t you think your relationship with Serena is a bit strange? You two act like single beastmen living together rather than mates."

Theo stiffened at the bird beastman’s words. He forgot that while Jason was a bit of a klutz, he wasn’t a complete fool. And if he was noticing things like that, it was a matter of time before others began questioning things.

"What would you know as a single beastman?" Theo questioned back, turning to look at the bird beastman. "Besides, we’re taking things a little slow... You know Serena lost her mate and family. She’s still dealing with the pain and all."

"I may be a single beastman, but I’m great at observing things." Jason puffed out his chest. "And I’ll have you know that I’ve noticed things. Like what kind of mate are you letting Serena do all sorts of beastmen tasks. I get helping out for the cold season, but even the rabbit beastmen don’t let their mates work this hard."

Theo had to admit Jason was right there, but that was because he agreed to let Serena do what she wanted. For the most part. If she wanted to do beastmen things then who was he to stop her.

It wasn’t like they were real mates. He had little say in her choices, although he would raise his concern when she wanted to do crazy things. Like getting honey.

Jason then snapped his fingers together. "Wait, I’ve got it. I bet you’re one of those jealous types. Poor Serena has to help out with beastmen tasks because you won’t let her have other mates. Is that why you live here? So you’re the strongest one and no one can stop you-"

"Did you accidentally eat some of Davis’ herbs? I heard the wrong herb can make you dumb." Theo frowned at the bird beastman, at a loss as to how Jason came to such a wild conclusion. He then sighed, "I’ll have you know that Serena is free to do what she wants. If she wants more mates then that’s up to her. I won’t interfere."

And that was the truth. Of course, it would be slightly awkward if she did get any real mates because they’d bound to question Serena and his real relationship. Perhaps even kick him out.

"Really?" Jason narrowed his eyes. "So, if I ask Serena to be her mate, you’ll just let me?"

"Go right ahead." Theo answered immediately, turning his attention back to breakfast.

He wasn’t sure if the bird beastman was being serious or not with that question, but he already knew what Serena’s answer was going to be to that question. A part of him was even slightly giddy to see it.

It would be fun to watch it all happen.

Jason opened his mouth to speak when Kiro woke up and groggily walked over to Theo and asked, "Where’s my sister?"

"In the garden." Theo answered. "Go wash up. Food’s almost done."

The cub nodded his head and went off to wash his face and hands. Jason silently watched the cub return back to the fire area.

"Hey cub..." Jason called out to the cub. "I have a question for you."

"Huh?" Kiro looked at the older beastman wearily, inching closer to Theo. "What do you want?"

"Are Theo and your sister close?" Jason asked, still on the fence about the matter. "Do they act like mates?"

"They are mates!" Kiro exclaimed. "Theo sometimes holds Sister’s hand and Father told me that when mates hold hands sometimes cubs can be made."

Theo choked back a cough at the cubs words, trying to hold back a laugh. He knew how cubs were made and it was definitely not like that. Although, he could understand why Kiro’s father had told him that.

His uncle had told him something similar when he got curious as a cub.

However, Jason was not on the same wavelength and said, "But that’s not how cubs are made. It happen-"

Before he could finish what he was about to say, someone hit him on the head with a stack of wooden bowls. It grumbled at the pain and looked up to see Serena glaring at him.

"You better not finish what you were about to say." Serena declared fiercely. "Otherwise, I’m going to pluck you myself."

Jason gave her a tight smile and nodded his head in understanding, "Of course, I was only joking around."

His instincts were telling him continuing with what he was about to say would lead to trouble. Because Serena wasn’t kidding around. She’d probably do that. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"You better be." Serena muttered, turning to Kiro. In a softer tone, she asked him, "Did you sleep well?"

The cub nodded and began chatting with his sister. Meanwhile, Theo moved closer to Jason and asked in a low tone, "So do you think I can control that?"

"No." Jason shook his head. "Serena’s just a strange female and you go along with it..."
