A New Life In The Beast World-Chapter 102: Getting Some Help
Then another thought occurred to her. That farming book of hers gave the basics to livestock farming. That’s how she got much of the information about raising wild birds.
She didn’t need that animal husbandry book just yet, so perhaps it could be the same for bees. She could get the basics now and add to it later with that other book if necessary.
"Perhaps there’s a method to stop the bees from attacking you when harvesting honey." Serena mused aloud. "But what would that be?"
Theo gave her a questioning look, confused as to why she was asking him this. Last he checked he was a tiger beastman not a bear beastman. He barely knew anything about harvesting honey.
Just that it was a dangerous thing to do.
However, Serena’s question was not targeted at him, but rather the sneaky system lazing on her upper arm. It let out a small hiss at her words, knowing where she was going with this.
But as the system getting such a question, it had no choice but to answer the question. "You’ll need to smoke out the bees to have them think that the beehive is on fire. They make them retreat to the far end of the beehive to eat their supply of honey, making them drowsy. Thus, you can safely retrieve honey.
"Of course, it’s best to do this in the morning or at least during the day when the bees are out and you’ll need to cover yourself in thick clothing from head to toe to reduce any chances of being stung."
"Hmm..." Serena pursed her lips again as she took in the information Liz had just given her.
Theo furrowed his eyes and asked, "Did you think of something?"
"What about using smoke to lure the bees away from the honey." Serena answered. "Anf if you do it in the morning when the bees are away along with wearing thick clothing, you have less chances of being stung."
"That could maybe work..." Theo said. "Most try taking the whole hive, but this is only retrieving some honeycombs. I think it’d be a better method..."
"But?" Serena raised an eyebrow, knowing something was on his mind.
"You’re not allowed to try this." Theo stated. "This is way too dangerous for a female to be doing. I know you like doing your own thing, but if you want to get any honey, allow me to do it at least."
Honestly, Serena wasn’t surprised that Theo was drawing the line here. Getting honey was probably regarded the same as hunting or probably even more dangerous. Depending on what one was hunting...
That being said, she knew when to retreat and this was one of those times. If she didn’t compromise now, there was no way Theo was going to let her go foraging on her own.
He’d probably follow her around to make sure she wasn’t trying to find any beehives on her own to get the honey herself. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
"Fine. You can get it then." Serena finally said. "But you’ve got to follow all my instructions."
"Fair enough." Theo nodded his head. "You seem to know more than me about getting honey anyway."
Serena gave a faint smile at that. "Alright then with that out of the way, I believe I’m going to need help with something else."
"And what would that be?" Theo asked.
"Carving out some stone for me. I’d like to build something."
***
The next morning, Serena headed out to get on the wild birds, it slowly becoming a habit of hers. Meanwhile, Theo got breakfast going. The sun had just risen, so the birds were still in the nesting area when she opened the coop.
The first two glanced over at her before going back to grooming their feathers while the third one squawked at her appearance and headed out the coop. Serena ignored it and grabbed the bowls to get clean water and some more food.
However, she suddenly stopped, retrieving her bone knife before turning around. As she turned, she swung her knife in an arc shape, only to slash at air. The person behind her just barely moved out of her attack’s range.
And when she saw them, she froze for a second before she quickly hid her knife behind her back and sent it back to her subspace. All while silently cursing herself.
"What are you doing here, Jason?" Serena muttered, straightening up like she hadn’t just attacked him. "You scared me there..."
She was a little grateful he had managed to get out of the way when he did. Instinct had kicked in when she felt someone creeping up from behind her. Thank goodness it hadn’t ended in disaster.
Jason clutched his neck and gazed at her in surprise. He then blinked and replied, "I... eh... Well, Davis kicked me out of the hut, so I came here..."
He looked like he wanted to say more, but Serena decided not to give him a chance. Better to have him think he imagined it all. There’d be less questions like that.
"I see..." Serena pursed her lips. "What did you do?"
"No idea." Jason shrugged. "Just kept muttering something about wanting some peace and quiet."
Serena raised an eyebrow. Now she was curious to know what Jason had done. Because as far as she could tell, Davis was a pretty patient beastman. Then again, Jason had a special knack for causing trouble.
Like now...
"By the way, what was that?" Jason suddenly asked, making Serena stiffen. "You know that waving thing... Did you have a knife there."
He peeked around her looking for her bone knife, making Serena push against his face to get him away. Not that she moved him much. He was still a strong beastman despite how he acted.
"I don’t have a knife on me." Serena muttered. "I moved like that because you scared me. Now stop being useless and help me with feeding the wild birds."
That managed to distract the bird beastman and Serena landed up having to explain the whole coop thing to him. But it was better than explaining her trying to kill him by accident.
