A Luna for Alpha Kieran-Chapter 126: How dare you?!
Chapter 126: How dare you?!
[ Blackmoon Territories ]
Gamma Kael strode like a storm towards the courtroom Hall of the Blackmoon pack.
He couldn’t believe what he heard, unless he saw it with his own eyes.
His boots thudded against the floor, shoulders drawn taut with rage. Six Deltas marched behind him in perfect formation, their eyes locked forward, jaws tight.Even the air smelt like rage.
Upon reaching the courtroom Kael kicked the gigantic wooden doors with brutal force. The stiles burst open with a crack that echoed off the stone walls like a war drum.
The introduction to the conflict was thus properly established.
Because he could already smell the rat inside... and his subordinates. The entire rotten lot. The news was true after all.
At the far end of the hall, seated on Alpha Kieran’s throne was the last man any sane person would want to see...Roanoke Curzon!
The old wolf sat like a monarch, legs crossed, chin lifted. He was flanked by those smug faced subordinates hanging on his every word. He didn’t even flinch when Kael kicked the second set of doors open, even though the bang made one of the chandeliers tremble.
Kael’s voice tore through the hall like lightning tears through the night sky."ROANOKE!!!"
In the next breath, he was across the room, grabbing the man by the collar and ripping him from the throne ( almost like a weed torn from a manicured garden).
"How dare you?You filthy scumbag!" Kael snarled, his face inches from Roanoke’s. "How dare you sit on that throne that no one even dares to touch??? You must have a death wish for such dangerous audacity!!" Kael brought his face closer to Roanoke’s,almost head butting the man but stopping just there. " I swear I would have ripped your goddamn throat out right here, right now...if only you weren’t the Luna’s father!I swear on the Moon! " Kael literally huffed. Seething! His fangs glistening itching to rip Roanoke’s sorry head but...
Roanoke however did not struggle.
Did not even blink. He held Kael’s gaze.
Then he merely smiled, calmly brushing Kael’s hands off his collar as if dusting away lint.
He straightened his back slowly as if stretching in the early morning...and then adjusted his cloak letting out a subtle sigh.
Then he turned his attention back to Kael and locked eyes with him.
"Calm down Gamma! Have you heard back from your Alpha yet?"
Kael said nothing. Only his jaw ticked.
His fists trembled at his sides.
Roanoke began to circle him, like a predator enjoying the helpless fury of a younger beast.
"No word from him at all, huh?Gone without a trace...Psst! Tsk! What a shame...( he tsked out loud) " he played well with faux concern dripping from his tone.
"Strange though. Don’t you think so?" He clicked his tongue."Umm...then what about your Beta? Still no signs of him either?"
Kael’s silence deepened.
One of the Deltas shifted behind him, but Kael raised a hand without turning, commanding them to stay down.
Roanoke wasn’t finished though.
"And now I hear," he continued, pausing for effect, "that even your precious Healer, what was the witch’s name again...the one who often acts in your Alpha’s absence???Ahhh! Mango! I heard she too suddenly went missing?"
Kael’s knuckles turned white. His entire frame was like a taut wire.A muscle twitched in his cheek. His face burned with the effort of holding back his rage.
His voice, when it finally came, was low and vibrating with restrained violence. "Watch your mouth before I pull out your tongue. Don’t forget your place. Our pack’s internal matters are none of your business."
Roanoke smirked.
He lifted his arms in mock surrender and took a few slow steps back, voice softening to a drawl.
"You know, Kael, I always admired your loyalty. Truly. But loyalty without wit is a blunt sword.Even if you want to kill me, you must tell me whether or not I spoke only the truth so far?"
He leaned close again, poking a finger against Kael’s chest.Kael said nothing.
"Very well. I will take your silence as an acknowledgment of the facts, then." Another step. Another slow, taunting circle. "Now, Gamma Kael, enlighten me...who comes next in the line of command?"
Silence.
Kael’s glare was deadly.
Still...he said nothing.
The cunning old wolf raised both brows as if genuinely curious.
"No answer? Hmm. No matter. I will help you out."
He circled one more round and then came to a full stop in front of the throne."It’s your Luna, isn’t it? My daughter...Lyla Blackmoon???"
A long silence. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
Then Kael’s voice finally cracked the tension like a blade through ice with a mighty growl."Yes... but you are not her."
Roanoke’s laughter rang out like glass breaking... tinkling all around.
"Oh, by all means,no. I am very much not my daughter." His eyes narrowed. "But you, of all people, should know what the law says. The Luna has the authority to transfer her command in times of crisis, war, or...whatever the case might be..." He tilted his head thoughtfully, "like...unexplained disappearance of top leadership. It’s perfectly legal, is it not?"
Kael stiffened.
The blood drained from his face...not from fear, but from pure, blistering rage.
Roanoke stepped up onto the dais again and turned to face him from above."So you see, dear boy, don’t let your pretty little head bother too much over me sitting on that throne."
His voice dropped, cold , as he held his gaze while slowly lowering himself on that throne."Your Luna has signed the authority over to me.You still have a problem with me sitting on this throne and tending to your pack’s ’internal’ matters? " He didn’t laugh but his words dripped with mockery. Too amused with his witty comeback.
His words however fell like a guillotine over Kael. "You are lying." he whispered, eyes narrowing.
Roanoke only smiled."Then perhaps you should read the scroll left in the Announcement Quarters this morning." He leaned back lazily against the throne’s armrest."Or better yet... go ask your Luna."
Kael was about to turn around but Roanoke spoke once more, " But before you go... We have a small businesses to settle. You dared to insult the act in Alpha in front of everyone. Don’t you think your actions deserve a befitting punishment, little boy? "
