A Heaven-sent Sweet Child Falls Asking for Hugs-Chapter 55: A Fly Doesn’t Bite a Seamless Egg
President Ford!
Vivian Quincy’s pink lips parted as she frantically pointed at Hayden Kaye behind her. "President Ford, quickly, save him."
"Hah! Even if Jasper Ford himself showed up today, it’d be useless. I’m going to cripple this brat!" Jeremy King boasted, his back to Jasper Ford.
Jasper Ford laughed. The crisp sound was jarring in the tense atmosphere.
The surrounding distinguished guests stood up one after another. "President Ford, you’re finally here! This Jeremy King is going too far. You have to stop him."
When Jeremy King heard the words "President Ford," he whipped around. He’d thought they were bluffing, but he never expected Jasper Ford to actually be here! Terrified, Jeremy King hastily called off his bodyguards and said with a fawning expression, "President Ford, when did you arrive?"
"I arrived just as you said you were going to cripple this brat." Jasper Ford walked forward, his eyes sweeping over the chaotic scene and the battered Hayden Kaye. The corners of his mouth curved into a sharp arc. "Go on. I’m watching."
Though his words were perfectly calm, they sent a shiver down everyone’s spine.
Jasper Ford was angry!
Everyone instinctively took a step back.
Although Jeremy King was arrogant, he knew very well that his company was no match for Imperium Group. Getting caught hitting Hayden Kaye in front of Jasper Ford was one thing; after all, Hayden had thrown the first punch, so he was technically in the right. But if he dared to lay another finger on Hayden now, Jasper Ford might truly fly into a rage.
Jeremy King forced a fawning smile and shook his head. "I was just joking. Master Kaye and I were just roughhousing. Please don’t take it to heart, President Ford."
"All I saw was you laying a hand on my nephew. I didn’t see anything else. If you really want to play, I don’t mind playing with you." Jasper Ford gave a domineering smirk. As his words fell, a man in a black suit stepped forward.
This was none other than Jasper Ford’s assistant, Caden Chandler.
It was unclear when Caden had arrived, but with a SMACK! SMACK!, he delivered two sharp slaps across Jeremy King’s face.
"You..." Jeremy King’s eyes widened in fury. His bodyguards rushed forward at the same time, but before they could get near Caden Chandler, Autumn Morgan arrived with the Morgan Family’s guards.
"What is going on here?" Autumn Morgan demanded. As she spoke, her guards had already separated Jeremy King’s and Jasper Ford’s men. She glanced thoughtfully at the bruised and swollen Hayden Kaye and asked with a small smile, "Did you get into another fight, you brat?"
Jeremy King gritted his teeth resentfully. "Miss Morgan, I came to your charity gala only to be assaulted! Don’t you think you owe me a reasonable explanation?"
Autumn Morgan scanned the area, feigning confusion. "A fight? I didn’t see anything."
"He just hit me! Didn’t you see that, Miss Morgan?" Jeremy King pointed at Caden Chandler, his eyes practically shooting fire with rage.
Only then did Autumn Morgan seem to notice that both of Jeremy King’s cheeks were swollen. He had clearly been hit—and hit hard, or he wouldn’t look like that. This aggressive complaint was his way of trying to get her, as the host, to take his side.
Autumn Morgan played dumb, asking with a puzzled look, "Is that so? Weren’t you two just roughhousing? Was it just roughhousing?"
She directed the last question at Jasper Ford.
Jasper Ford smiled and said, "It was."
"No wonder it’s such a mess. The auction is about to start. If you all wish to play, please wait until after it’s over. The Morgan Estate has plenty of entertainment; I guarantee you’ll find something you like. There’s no need to fight. It’s not at all elegant." Autumn Morgan gracefully walked up to Jeremy King and said, "President King, that face of yours looks badly hurt. The Morgan Family happens to have a private physician. If you’d like, I don’t mind having my personal doctor come over to patch you up."
’She’s not even going to get me a doctor!’
"Autumn Morgan, I am a guest here! I get beaten up at your estate, and this is your attitude?" Jeremy King demanded furiously.
Autumn Morgan feigned a troubled expression. "Am I not handling it? You yourselves said you were just roughhousing. I haven’t even held you accountable for causing trouble on my property, so what more do you want? Do you want me to have you thrown out?"
"You! Fine! Very good!" Jeremy King pointed at Hayden Kaye and Autumn Morgan, his face red with anger. Finally, he barked at his bodyguards, "We’re leaving!"
The bodyguards left with Jeremy King.
Autumn Morgan lazily kicked a broken wine glass out of the way and scoffed, "Who does he think he is, daring to cause trouble on my turf."
After Jeremy King left, the other guests chimed in, "Exactly! That Jeremy King is despicable, causing a scene at the Morgan Estate. Thank goodness President Ford arrived in time, or Master Kaye would have really suffered."
"Right? Jeremy King is really something else. An old man picking a fight with a youngster. I don’t know what he was thinking. It’s a good thing Miss Morgan got here when she did, or someone could have been seriously hurt."
The other guests continued to shower Autumn Morgan and Jasper Ford with praise.
Jasper Ford ignored them and walked over to Hayden Kaye in a few strides. "Why did you start the fight?"
Hayden Kaye clutched his swollen lip, his voice a little hoarse. "I couldn’t stand the sight of him."
Jasper Ford was silent for a few seconds before telling Caden Chandler to take Hayden to get his wounds treated. Vivian Quincy quickly followed after them. Jasper Ford’s already dark expression grew even colder.
Autumn Morgan thought Jasper was angry at Hayden’s youthful recklessness and immaturity. "Don’t be so upset," she said. "It’s normal for kids to be hot-headed. Just give him a good talking-to when you get home."
"You handle the gala for now. I’m going to check on them." Jasper Ford was worried.
Autumn Morgan spread her hands. "Fine. I’m on my own again. Go ahead."
Before her voice had even faded, Jasper Ford was already several yards away.
"Honestly, he didn’t even say goodbye," Autumn Morgan huffed before walking away.
「...」
In the backyard, the private physician was treating Hayden Kaye’s injuries.
Vivian Quincy stood by Hayden Kaye’s side the entire time, her brow furrowed with worry.
Hayden Kaye took her hand. "Don’t worry, I’m fine. It’s just a small cut, nothing serious."
"You’re bleeding and you say it’s nothing?" Vivian Quincy retorted, her face scrunched up in distress.
Hayden Kaye smiled and asked, "Are you worried about me?"
"Of course I am," Vivian Quincy replied without a second thought.
Hayden Kaye happily squeezed Vivian Quincy’s hand, saying excitedly, "I knew you had feelings for me! As long as it’s for you, no injury is too severe."
"So you’d even throw your life away for a woman, is that it?" a sharp, questioning voice came from the doorway.
Hayden Kaye looked up in a panic. Seeing Jasper Ford, the smile instantly vanished from his face. He said, looking rather pitiful, "Ninth Uncle, why didn’t you get here sooner? You have no idea how out of line that Jeremy King was. He even grabbed Vivian’s hand."
"What does that have to do with you?" Jasper Ford shot back.
Hayden Kaye explained loudly, "Of course it has to do with me! How could I just stand by and watch Vivian get bullied by that scum?"
"Flies are only drawn to cracked eggs," Jasper Ford remarked.
Standing to the side, Vivian Quincy’s face went deathly pale. She looked at Jasper Ford’s profile in disbelief and asked in a trembling voice, "What do you mean by that, President Ford?"
