A Heaven-sent Sweet Child Falls Asking for Hugs-Chapter 32: President, Can I Borrow a Bed?
Jasper Ford had no patience for people who dallied, people like Vivian Quincy. When she didn’t move, he swept her long hair aside himself, startling her into trying to pull away.
"Why are your ears so red?" Jasper Ford asked in surprise. He noticed that not only were her ears red, but her entire face and neck were also flushed a vibrant color.
The store manager beside them smiled and said, "She’s probably just shy."
Jasper Ford couldn’t help but take a second look at Vivian Quincy. She flinched back in surprise, her clear eyes hastily avoiding his intense gaze. ’She really is shy,’ he thought. ’It’s surprisingly... cute.’
His gaze softened a little, though he himself didn’t notice. After pinning up Vivian’s hair, he fastened the ruby pendant around her neck. The chain was quite long, letting the gemstone rest directly on her chest. Jasper Ford found himself noticing how buxom she was, and he frowned slightly.
The store manager hadn’t expected the chain to hang like that either and said, "Let me adjust the length of the chain."
Jasper Ford removed the pendant and handed it to the store manager.
While the store manager was adjusting the chain, Vivian Quincy took the opportunity to say to Jasper Ford, "I don’t like pendants."
Her voice was very soft, deliberately lowered, but the store manager still heard her. He smiled and said, "If you don’t like pendants, we can also make it into a ring. The quality of this ruby is excellent, no worse than a diamond. It would be even more beautiful as a ring."
Vivian Quincy’s pretty face wrinkled. She couldn’t help but say, "President Ford and I are just superior and subordinate. We have no other relationship. A ring seems... inappropriate."
"A superior can give a subordinate a ring! What girl doesn’t have a piece of jewelry or two these days?" The store manager smiled as he fastened the adjusted ruby pendant on Vivian. He also had a clerk find a ring that complemented her skin tone to show Jasper Ford. "President Ford, what do you think of this ring?"
Jasper Ford gave it a brief glance, took it, and ordered Vivian, "Hold out your hand."
"President Ford, that’s not a good idea. I don’t want it." ’A strange man putting a ring on my finger... this is just too weird!’
To Vivian Quincy, something as sacred and pure as a ring shouldn’t be tainted by other interests. She clutched the pendant at her neck. "This is fine. Let’s forget about the ring."
She moved several feet away from Jasper Ford, avoiding the ring in his hand like the plague!
’I don’t get it,’ Jasper Ford thought. ’Since Vivian Quincy was willing to be with Jeremy King for money, she should be acting much more enthusiastic right now. Everything here costs at least six figures. If she just grabbed a few items and resold them, she could make a good amount of money.’
Jasper Ford had the store manager box up the pendant. After paying, he handed it to Vivian Quincy. She didn’t want it, but after a cold glare from him, she had no choice but to meekly accept it.
The receipt was inside the box. Vivian curiously took it out for a look, and her jaw nearly dropped. Her eyes widened as she stared at the number: 299,000. Jasper Ford had actually just bought a pendant that cost that much!
The small gift box suddenly felt like a hot potato, so valuable that Vivian wanted to find a place to just throw it away!
"Wear it to work tomorrow." The perceptive Jasper Ford saw through her intentions and added the sharp command.
Vivian Quincy said, "President Ford, can I... not take it?"
"No." Jasper Ford stopped and said to her, "Hayden won’t give up easily. Since we’re putting on an act, you’d better make it convincing. None of the women who’ve been with me have ever been as shabby as you."
Vivian Quincy’s delicate face stiffened slightly. "Am I supposed to take that as an insult?"
"You can." The man didn’t even hesitate.
Vivian Quincy’s already wronged expression became even more aggrieved! ’I never wanted to be Jasper Ford’s woman! I just want to find Beanie’s deadbeat dad and then leave Crestfall!’
She very reluctantly accepted Jasper Ford’s gift. "I’ll take good care of it and return it to you."
Jasper Ford didn’t say anything, his dark eyes full of indifference. This amount of money was nothing to him.
It was getting late. Jasper Ford had no intention of returning to the office, so he had Vivian drive him home.
The moment she heard she could go to Jasper Ford’s house, Vivian Quincy’s miserable face suddenly lit up. Her large, clear eyes shone brightly, sparkling with excitement. "Right now? Then let’s hurry."
She quickened her pace towards the parking lot, walking much faster than Jasper Ford. This strange behavior made him suspicious. He asked, "What are you so happy about? Is there some treasure you want at my house?"
The girl’s back stiffened. She shook her head and explained, "No, of course not. I’m just happy because it’s almost the end of the workday."
Feeling uneasy under Jasper Ford’s sharp gaze, Vivian Quincy hurried back over to him, smiling sweetly. "President Ford, your house is so far from mine, and it’s already getting dark..."
"It’s only seven. It won’t be too late for you to get home on your own after you drop me off," Jasper Ford replied casually, having already seen that Vivian had ulterior motives.
Vivian Quincy’s sweet smile froze on her face. She stood stunned for a few seconds before reacting, chasing after Jasper Ford. "It’ll take at least an hour to drive to your house! By the time I walk to hail a cab, it’ll be late and deserted. It’s not safe for a girl to be walking around at night. If I run into trouble, it will be all your fault, President Ford! How can you have the heart to let me come to harm right after you’ve used me?"
Jasper Ford, who had already walked several feet away, stopped.
Vivian was chasing him so frantically she didn’t react in time, running right into his back with a THUD. She let out a soft grunt of pain, clutching her forehead as she stumbled back.
Hearing the girl’s soft, breathy whimper, a fire stirred in Jasper Ford’s chest. His expression darkened as he asked, "What are you trying to say?"
Hearing a hint of compromise, Vivian immediately dropped the hand from her head and put on an eager, fawning smile. "By the time I get you home, it’ll be very late, and it’s not safe for a girl to be out alone. So, how about... could you lend me a bed, President Ford?"
"Lend you a bed?" Jasper Ford’s gaze suddenly became exceptionally sharp. "Just lend me a bed?"
Vivian Quincy hadn’t expected Jasper Ford to be so agreeable. ’I’ll get to see Beanie soon!’ she thought. Unable to contain her inner joy, she continued to propose, "If you have a spare towel and toothbrush, I could borrow those too."
Jasper Ford laughed. It was a hearty, clear, and pleasant sound.
Vivian Quincy didn’t know what he meant by that. She stared at him with wide, baffled eyes. "Is that not okay?"
Jasper Ford wasn’t sure if he should laugh at her innocence or her stupidity. An unreadable smile touched his lips. "It’s fine, I suppose. But first, you have to tell me what you’re really after. Are you planning on getting to my place, brushing your teeth, taking off all your clothes, washing up, and then climbing into my bed to please me? Or what?"
Vivian Quincy’s fair face froze. She shook her head frantically. "That’s not what I meant at all!"
"That’s not what you meant?" Jasper Ford scoffed.
’A woman making that kind of request to a man late at night must subconsciously want exactly that. I just gave Vivian Quincy a single ruby pendant, and she’s already this impatient. It’s pathetic.’
