A Heaven-sent Sweet Child Falls Asking for Hugs-Chapter 31: A Match Made in Heaven
Vivian Quincy felt awkward.
It was true that she and Hayden Kaye had been together, but six years was enough time to forget anyone. She hadn’t actively contacted him in all that time, which meant she had given up on the relationship.
Vivian Quincy was also well aware that Jasper Ford despised her—or, to be more accurate, looked down on her.
In Jasper Ford’s eyes, she was an impure woman, unworthy of Hayden Kaye. To rich people like them, Vivian Quincy was just a social climber.p>Vivian Quincy took a deep breath and said, "I’ve already said everything I need to. I have nothing more to add, so I’ll excuse myself."
After all, she was just a lowly assistant and meant nothing to the two of them. Her words carried no weight.
Beanie was still living at Jasper Ford’s house. If she offended Jasper, the consequences for Beanie would be dire.
Since Jasper Ford demanded she take a stance, she did. The rest was none of her business.
Vivian Quincy didn’t know what happened in the office after that. She only remembered that Hayden Kaye’s expression was awful when he left. He gave her a deep, meaningful look, but Vivian automatically averted her gaze until his figure disappeared down the end of the hall.
Vivian Quincy lowered her head and went back to work, her expression unchanged.
The others in the office were surprised.
"Did Master Kaye just have an argument in President Ford’s office?" one woman asked.
Another said, "I bet it’s about Vivian Quincy. Since when does our company allow office romances? That Vivian Quincy has only just started, and she’s already making eyes at the President’s nephew. Master Kaye must have gotten a lecture."
"That Vivian Quincy is really something else. We’ve been working at Imperium Group for so long and haven’t been noticed by any clients. But look at her, she hooks a rich, handsome guy in just a few days. At this rate, she might actually marry up and become the Young Madam of the Kaye Family."
The woman’s face was full of envy, but her colleague scoffed, "What’s so great about being the Young Madam of the Kaye Family? If she’s got what it takes, she should become the Young Madam of the Ford Family. Hayden Kaye is nowhere near our President’s level. That Vivian Quincy can only fool someone as young and naive as Hayden Kaye. Just look at our President—he won’t even deign to glance at her!"
The two gossiped enthusiastically.
Vivian Quincy, who was busy organizing files, paused her hand on the mouse. Her pearly white teeth gently bit her soft, pink lips.
The two women snuck a glance at Vivian Quincy, afraid she might have overheard. They shouldn’t have looked up. When they did, they saw Jasper Ford walking out of his office. He went straight to Vivian Quincy’s side and parted his lips. "Come with me to TI Group."
"Me?" Vivian Quincy blinked, her large, bewildered eyes full of surprise.
Jasper Ford gave a faint "Mm," and headed for the elevator.
After gathering her documents, Vivian Quincy hurried after him.
The driver had a last-minute emergency, so Vivian Quincy had to drive. Jasper Ford was silent the entire way, quietly reading documents in the back seat. Several times, Vivian wanted to speak up, but she always forced the words back down.
Upon reaching TI Group, Vivian Quincy parked the car and said, "President Ford, we’re here."
Only then did Jasper Ford lazily lift his icy gaze, his voice deep. "What do you want?"
Vivian Quincy was confused.
The man nonchalantly closed the file in his hands. "What compensation do you want for leaving Hayden Kaye?"
It dawned on Vivian Quincy what he meant. She shook her head. "I don’t want anything."
"I don’t like being indebted to anyone. Since I was the one who made you leave him, I should compensate you." In Jasper Ford’s eyes, Vivian Quincy was the type of person who would do anything for money.
Vivian Quincy understood his implication and let out a silent, mocking laugh. She said, "President Ford, it’s time for your appointment with the head of TI."
"Think about it." Jasper Ford glanced at his watch and got out of the car.
The meeting lasted for half an hour. Vivian Quincy waited outside the conference room the entire time, Jasper Ford’s words replaying in her mind. She knew he was hinting for her to name her price. But she had no intention of getting entangled with Hayden Kaye to begin with. If she actually took the money, Jasper Ford would see her as a materialistic woman with no morals, willing to do anything for cash.
’I do like money, but I know the difference between money I can and can’t accept.’
After the meeting, the head of TI invited Jasper Ford to dine at a nearby restaurant. Jasper Ford accepted, and Vivian Quincy tagged along like a quiet shadow. She didn’t say a word from start to finish, and no one paid her any mind. They didn’t leave until after six in the evening.
Jasper Ford had had a little to drink. He sat in the car, rubbing the bridge of his nose, and lazily glanced at the equally exhausted Vivian Quincy in the rearview mirror. "Made up your mind?"
Vivian Quincy froze for a second, then remembered what he was talking about. She repeated, "I don’t want it."
"Then you must want to be the Young Madam of the Kaye Family." Jasper Ford’s lips formed a sharp line. "You’re not worthy."
Vivian Quincy’s face went pale. Her hands tightened on the steering wheel as she said angrily, "I know my place. I don’t need you to remind me, President Ford. I’m not as shameless as you think."
The man let out a soft chuckle. He lowered the hand that had been rubbing his brow, revealing sharp eyes that seemed to see through everything. He saw the defiant look on her proudly tilted face and felt that if the seatbelt weren’t holding her back, Vivian Quincy might just jump up and punch him in the kneecaps.
’Forget it.’
"Go to a nearby mall," he said.
Vivian Quincy suppressed her indignation and drove obediently.
Once at the mall, Jasper Ford led her directly into a jewelry store.
The store manager rushed out, her face a mixture of panic and pleasant surprise. "President Ford! What brings you here?"
Jasper Ford swept an indifferent gaze over the store’s jewelry and said to Vivian Quincy, "Pick something."
"Me?" Vivian Quincy couldn’t help but look around. After confirming that Jasper Ford was indeed speaking to her, she asked, "Why?"
"Compensation." His deep voice was sexy and utterly domineering.
Vivian Quincy had noticed the sign on her way in. It was a well-known high-end domestic jewelry brand. A single piece in here would cost tens of thousands, if not more.
Vivian Quincy remained rooted to the spot.
The man was clearly growing impatient. He strode over to a display case and pointed to a ruby. "That one. Take it out so we can have a look."
"President Ford, you have excellent taste! That’s our store’s showpiece, it’s called ’Eternal Love.’ It’s the perfect gift for a girlfriend." The store manager lavished praise on Jasper Ford’s eye as she carefully took out the brilliant ruby.
Hearing the word "girlfriend," a blush crept up Vivian Quincy’s ears. She flushed and explained, "I’m not his girlfriend."
"Are you already married, then? I can’t believe I hadn’t heard! You two work fast," the store manager said in surprise.
Vivian Quincy’s cheeks grew even redder. ’My uniform is so obvious. Can’t the manager see I’m just his subordinate?’
Unhappy, she tilted her chin up and looked away.
The store manager chuckled. "President Ford’s girlfriend certainly has a personality. And she’s so beautiful, too. Standing next to you, you two are truly a match made in heaven..."
"That’s enough," Jasper Ford warned in a low voice. He pulled Vivian Quincy over and commanded, "Put your hair up."
Vivian Quincy didn’t move.
Jasper Ford narrowed his eyes. "Are you waiting for me to do it for you?"
