Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Leave Her and Find Another Girl

"She’s not right for you." Faced with Hayden Kaye’s protests, Jasper Ford was ruthless. "Find another girl. And don’t come looking for her again."

"I think she’s perfect for me. She’s the only one I want. I know Ninth Uncle doesn’t approve of us, but you have to understand, I’ve waited six years for the chance to marry her. How can I just give up that easily!" Hayden Kaye protested.

When Jasper Ford heard the words "marry her," his temples throbbed. He knew Vivian Quincy was trouble, and for that reason alone, he would never allow Hayden Kaye to pursue her.

"I’ll go see your father later. You can repeat what you’ve just said to him then." Jasper Ford had no patience for Hayden Kaye’s romantic trifles with Vivian Quincy. He cut him off coldly and had Caden Chandler show him out.

Hayden Kaye lingered, unwilling to leave. "Ninth Uncle, you promised you’d help me!"

Jasper Ford’s expression darkened. "Get out."

"Ninth Uncle..." Hayden pleaded. "This is the last time I’ll ask. Please, help me get her a job at my company. You know my father likes capable people. I’ll groom Vivian into a fitting daughter-in-law for the Kaye Family, and I know my father will change his opinion of her. Uncle, my happiness depends on you. You can’t be this cruel!"

To get the girl, Hayden Kaye was laying it all on the line.

Standing nearby, Caden Chandler couldn’t help but glance at his boss’s thunderous expression. ’It’s over,’ he thought. ’Master Kaye isn’t here asking for a favor, he’s here to poach someone!’

’After all these years, the President finally hired a female assistant. There’s no way he’d let her go.’

So, Caden couldn’t resist reminding him, "Master Kaye, the President is right. We all know you like Vivian Quincy, but you can’t have her. You should listen to the President and stop contacting her. Let’s go. The President has work to do, and your presence is a distraction."

Caden Chandler promptly dragged Hayden Kaye away. Even as he was being pulled out, Hayden was still calling Vivian Quincy’s name.

Everyone in the office turned to look at Vivian Quincy, their gazes filled with probing curiosity. Vivian endured their stares all afternoon. She had just managed to hold out until the end of the day and was getting ready to leave when the sharp CLICK-CLACK-CLICK of high heels caught her attention.

"Miss Quincy, what brings you here?" The Secretary General was the first to greet her, her tone deeply respectful.

Wanda Quincy offered a gentle smile and said in a soft voice, "I just got off work and brought some milk tea for everyone. There’s one for each of you, please help yourselves."

"Thank you, Miss Quincy," the Secretary General said effusively, then took the milk tea to hand it out.

Seeing that the President’s office door was closed, Wanda Quincy asked in a hushed voice, "Is your President still busy?"

"He is. He’s been discussing a project proposal with a few managers for almost half an hour now," the Secretary General answered.

Wanda Quincy murmured an "Oh" and, with a smile, walked over to a nearby bench to sit. "In that case, I won’t disturb him. All of you can get back to your work."

"Alright." The Secretary General glanced at the two remaining cups of milk tea she was holding and called out to someone in the distance, "Vivian, come, this one’s for you."

"Thank you." Vivian Quincy stood up to take the milk tea.

Wanda Quincy, who was sitting across from Vivian Quincy’s desk, suddenly locked eyes with her and froze. Her eyes filled with disbelief. Frowning, she demanded of the Secretary General, "What is she doing here?"

Vivian, who had also spotted Wanda, hadn’t expected to meet her like this either. She set the milk tea she had just accepted on her desk, leaving it untouched.

The Secretary General asked, puzzled, "Do you two know each other?"

"We don’t!" Wanda Quincy denied instantly. "I was just wondering why there’s a new face around."

The Secretary General explained with a smile, "This is Vivian Quincy. She was just promoted today. She had an outstanding performance in a lower-level position and was personally promoted by the President to be his assistant."

"The President’s... assistant?" The smile on Wanda Quincy’s face slowly froze.

The Secretary General nodded. "That’s right. It’s rare for the President to have a female assistant, so she must be very capable."

Wanda Quincy was no longer smiling. Her eyes were locked on Vivian Quincy, blazing with a hatred so intense it was as if she wanted to tear her to shreds. But Wanda restrained herself. Feigning indifference, she sneered, "Just look at how she’s dressed. She’s obviously from the countryside. A company as big as Imperium Group can have any assistant it wants. Is your department that desperate for people that you had to resort to hiring this kind of riffraff?"

Her voice, just loud enough to be clear, made everyone in the vicinity turn their heads. It was the first time they had ever seen the company’s future first lady berating someone!

And so harshly, too!

’Vivian Quincy must not be able to take this. If we were being humiliated like that, we’d want the ground to swallow us whole!’

But Vivian Quincy maintained her usual smile, her expression unflinching. "And what’s wrong with being from the countryside?" she said. "If I remember correctly, Miss Quincy, you don’t come from a prestigious family yourself."

"My background is none of your damn business!" Wanda Quincy snapped. She despised it when people brought up her origins.

Not to be outdone, Vivian retorted, "I’m merely reminding you, Miss Quincy, that a sparrow can’t become a phoenix. By insulting me, you’re also insulting yourself. So I suggest you show a little more respect when you speak, lest everyone think you have no class."

"You!" Wanda’s face contorted with rage. She pointed a finger at Vivian, about to explode, but then she saw Jasper Ford emerge from his office. She immediately rushed over to him, her eyes welling with tears. "Jasper, your new assistant is bullying me!"

Jasper Ford’s cold gaze swept over.

Everyone in the department bowed their heads. Only Vivian Quincy kept her chin up, showing no fear as she challenged Wanda, "How, exactly, did I bully you?"

"You’re the President’s assistant, yet you said the future President’s wife has no class. That’s bullying!" Wanda said to Jasper Ford, looking pitiable. "Jasper, I don’t like her. Can you please fire her?"

Her words made everyone in the department gasp.

They couldn’t help but steal a glance at Vivian Quincy. ’To be threatened with firing on her very first day... she’s a first!’

It reinforced their belief that they couldn’t afford to offend Wanda Quincy, so they all remained silent. Jasper Ford, however, nodded. "Insubordination is unacceptable. Apologize to her."

Without a doubt, he was speaking to Vivian Quincy.

Vivian Quincy clenched her fists. "I did nothing wrong. Why should I apologize?"

"Talk back again, and you’ll lose a month’s pay." Jasper Ford’s voice was devoid of mercy.

Vivian Quincy’s expression soured.

’Wanda, who had been quite frightened moments ago, felt her heart melt with gratitude. It was rare for Jasper to stand up for her. It seemed she had worried for nothing. Jasper really did care about her. With a wonderful fiancée like her, how could he possibly be interested in used goods like Vivian Quincy!’

Emboldened by Jasper Ford’s support, Wanda said daringly, "Did you hear him? Apologize!"

A faint blush crept up Vivian Quincy’s delicate cheeks. She bit her lip, remaining silent.

Wanda knew Vivian’s personality and figured she wouldn’t give in so easily. She turned to Jasper. "It seems your new assistant isn’t very obedient. Keeping someone like her in the company will only cause trouble."

Jasper Ford stared coldly at Vivian Quincy, his gaze sharp enough to flay a person alive.

Vivian remained stubbornly silent.

Wanda said with a smirk, "If you can’t handle it, then pack your things and get out. Nobody’s asking you to stay."
