Chapter 117: Chapter 117: The CEO Is Very Satisfied with Her

Jasper Ford had already come out of the house. Vivian Quincy quickly adjusted her seat and fastened her seatbelt.

Caden Chandler saw how nervous she looked and said with a smile, "Don’t worry, the President isn’t going to fight you for the passenger seat. He’s never liked having anyone sit next to him, so you can relax."

Vivian Quincy was in the passenger seat, gripping it tightly with both hands as if someone were about to snatch it away. Caden Chandler found it amusing.

She glared at him, annoyed, then looked up, blinking her big, pretty eyes. "I’ve noticed you talk an awful lot," she said softly.

"What do you mean, I talk a lot?" Caden Chandler asked, taken aback and looking a little agitated.

Just then, Jasper Ford opened the car door and got in. He raised an eyebrow, casting a meaningful glance at the two who were on the verge of arguing, and asked in a cold voice, "What’s going on?"

Vivian Quincy said, "President, Caden Chandler talks so much! I can’t even win an argument against him. I’ve rarely met a man who’s this chatty. Shouldn’t you rein him in?"

Well, the new assistant was a tattletale.

Caden Chandler felt quite sullen. ’After just a few days as the President’s assistant, Vivian Quincy is already getting ahead of herself. Who does she think I am? Is my position something an outsider like her can shake just by fanning a few flames? A mere assistant, and she dares to complain to the President about a veteran like me. I guess you have to admire her guts.’ He simply smiled without saying a word.

The man, now seated in the car, arched a sharp brow and asked, "What were you two talking about just now?"

"Pres—"

"President, Caden Chandler was just badmouthing you. I wasn’t happy about it, so I called him out," Vivian Quincy cut in, speaking before Caden Chandler could get a word out.

Caden Chandler whipped his head around. Vivian Quincy, the tattletale, was looking right back at him, her posture poised and confident. For a moment, Caden Chandler was at a loss for words. He had, in fact, said those things, so he lowered his head guiltily.

"Don’t let it happen again," said Jasper Ford.

"President, I was just joking," Caden Chandler explained hastily.

The man shot a cold glance his way. Caden Chandler, who had wanted to explain further, silently lowered his head. ’The President is angry. He’s actually angry with me over a couple of words from Vivian Quincy!’

’Suddenly, Caden Chandler felt his position was precarious. In the past, the President had held him in high regard, practically praising him a dozen times a day...’

He kept his head down and drove, remaining sullen for the rest of the morning.

As usual, Jasper Ford held the morning meeting right after arriving at the company. But he didn’t have Caden Chandler join him; instead, he specifically summoned Vivian Quincy!

This made Caden Chandler feel even more resentful. While not having to attend the morning meeting was a blessing, he couldn’t shake the feeling that Vivian Quincy had stolen something from him, which was why he was so sullen all morning.

At ten o’clock, Wanda Quincy arrived at the company. Before the meeting, Jasper Ford had reminded Caden Chandler to take good care of her, so Caden Chandler showed her into Jasper Ford’s office. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Wanda Quincy was visibly excited, unable to hide her delight. She gave Caden Chandler a particularly sweet smile. "Chandler, is Jasper in a very good mood today?"

"He seems to be. Why do you ask, President Quincy?" Caden Chandler asked curiously.

Wanda Quincy said, "He’s been ignoring me ever since I left Imperium Group last time. I thought he never wanted to see me again, but who would have thought..."

"Don’t be sad, President Quincy. The President still treats you very well," Caden Chandler said, trying to comfort her with a smile. He knew she was referring to the recent incident where she was publicly humiliated by having to apologize to Vivian Quincy.

Wanda Quincy couldn’t tell if Caden Chandler was being sincere, but to this day, she still resented how Jasper Ford had ignored her, causing her to lose face within her industry. That arrogant and domineering Kimberly Shaw had even brazenly come to her company to humiliate her, going so far that she might as well have been beating drums and gongs in celebration. All of this left Wanda Quincy feeling deeply wronged.

But ultimately, she was deeply in love with Jasper Ford—so in love that with a mere beckon of his finger, she would forgive and forget all her past resentment. As far as Wanda was concerned, she could tolerate anything as long as Jasper was willing to be with her.

She sat gleefully in the office, quietly waiting for Jasper to arrive from his meeting. Worried that Caden Chandler might be bored, she said, "You can go attend to your own work. You don’t need to keep me company. I’ll just wait for Jasper here by myself."

Caden Chandler shook his head. "The President told me to take good care of you, President Quincy. I’m free this morning anyway, so it’s my duty to keep you company."

"Then who is with Jasper at the meeting? Vivian Quincy?" Wanda Quincy couldn’t help but ask.

Caden Chandler nodded. "Yes. She’s quite efficient, and the President is very pleased with her."

The smile on Wanda Quincy’s face slowly cracked. The corners of her lips grew pale as she bit down on them. "Jasper rarely finds such a good assistant," she said, her voice strained. "You can leave now. I’d like to be alone for a while. I don’t want anyone watching me."

Her voice had changed, much colder than it was at the beginning.

Caden Chandler noticed the shift. A glint appeared in his eyes. He walked over and drew all the curtains in the office before closing the door on his way out.

Wanda sat there in Jasper Ford’s office, Caden Chandler’s words—’The President is very pleased with her’—replaying endlessly in her mind. ’I just don’t get it,’ Wanda thought. ’A massive company like Imperium Group has every kind of talent imaginable, right?’

’Half of the secretaries just outside this office are from the world’s top 100 universities. No matter how capable Vivian Quincy is, could she really be better than them?’

’Anyone could do a better job than Vivian Quincy!’

The more Wanda Quincy thought about it, the angrier she became. But then, on second thought, Jasper had specifically asked Caden Chandler to attend to her. That signified her status and importance. No one else in this company received such special treatment.

With that thought, her anger subsided. ’When Vivian Quincy gets out of that meeting,’ she decided, ’I’m going to make sure to flaunt this in her face.’

Her mood greatly improved. She noticed a file on the coffee table. She hesitated, wanting to look but not quite daring to. It was Jasper’s, after all, and she worried he would be angry if she read it. But curiosity got the better of her. ’Since this file was left on the coffee table instead of locked in a drawer,’ she reasoned, ’it probably isn’t anything important.’

But...

But when Wanda Quincy saw the file’s contents, her face drained of color!

Her body went rigid. The hand holding the file froze in mid-air, her fingers slowly losing their grip without her even noticing.

"What are you looking at?" Suddenly, an authoritative, questioning voice boomed from the doorway.

Wanda Quincy looked up in a panic at Jasper Ford, who was standing in the doorway. The file slipped from her hand and fell to the floor. She scrambled to bend down, pick it up, and place it back where she found it.

Jasper Ford had already strode into the room, his tall frame radiating an oppressive aura.

Wanda Quincy sensed his anger and explained, "I’m sorry. I was just really bored, so I glanced at it. I’m sorry."

The man slowly picked up the paternity test report from the coffee table with his long, slender fingers. He sneered, then tossed it back down. "It’s a worthless piece of paper. Nothing to get worked up about."

’A worthless piece of paper?’

Wanda Quincy looked up, astonished. She had assumed this document was very important to Jasper, but unexpectedly, he didn’t seem to care about it at all.

The knot of anxiety in Wanda Quincy’s chest loosened. She asked, confused, "Jasper, whose paternity test is this? Do you have a son?"
