Chapter 145: A Way to Stay Connected

Even if it was the truth, the situation overturned everything Brat believed to be normal.

He was so confused that he couldn’t say a single word.

"This is my first time going through something like this, so there are many things I don’t understand. I don’t know when something might happen. If there is a time when I stop coming here for a while, it might be because of that. So please don’t worry too much," Qiong Xing said calmly.

Brat had been shocked by the idea of pregnancy itself, but what that really meant was something else.

It meant that at any time, Qiong Xing might stop accepting his requests.

Qiong Xing said there was still time, but no one knew how long a pregnancy like this would last, or how difficult it might be, since they had never heard of such a situation before.

Because of that, they couldn’t push him to take on anything difficult.

But the thought that these weekly meetings might disappear made Brat feel miserable and anxious.

If that happened, he would have to return to that painful and dull life again.

Just imagining it made his chest feel heavy.

While Brat was lost in those thoughts, it seemed the discussion inside the room had already ended.

Qiong Xing then stood up and Brat followed him out of the guild.

"You haven’t said a single word since earlier. Is something wrong?" Qiong Xing asked gently. "If my situation made you uncomfortable, then you can forget about the request. It doesn’t have to continue."

"Huh?" Brat replied blankly.

He didn’t even understand what Qiong Xing meant.

"Did you think it was disgusting that a man is pregnant?" Qiong Xing continued calmly. "Among humans, many people find it hard to accept same-sex partners. So if you dislike it, it’s better to say it clearly. It would be better for both of us—"

"No, that’s not it!! Ah—no, I mean, that’s not true. It’s really not. I was surprised, of course, but I never thought it was disgusting or anything like that," Brat said quickly.

He had never imagined that Qiong Xing would misunderstand him like that.

He quickly denied it and after explaining himself, Qiong Xing finally seemed to accept it.

"It’s really not like that. It’s just... well... the request... you’re going to take a break from it, right?" Brat asked carefully.

"Hm? Ah, yes... that’s right," Qiong Xing replied. Then he paused for a moment before adding, "Wait... are you saying you’ll feel lonely if we can’t meet anymore?"

"Yes," Brat answered honestly.

"..."

Originally, Brat had wanted Qiong Xing to stay close to him and had even thought about asking him to become his tutor.

But when that had been refused, he settled for meeting once a week through requests made at the guild.

Now that even that might disappear, he couldn’t help but say that he felt uneasy.

But when he said it, Qiong Xing suddenly laughed and Brat felt his mood sink.

"Ah, sorry," Qiong Xing said with a soft chuckle. "I wasn’t laughing at you. I was just happy that you’ve grown so attached to me."

Hearing that only made Brat feel embarrassed.

He lowered his head, but then suddenly felt a hand resting on it and looked up in surprise.

"Well... even if we can’t meet for a while, maybe there’s some way..." Qiong Xing murmured thoughtfully.

As he spoke, his hand gently moved, stroking Brat’s head.

Brat had never been treated like that before, so he felt awkward and confused. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

"If there was some way for us to keep in touch..." Qiong Xing continued. "Albe, do you know of anything?"

"Hmm... with magic there’s teleportation and stuff like that, but this guy definitely can’t use it," Albe said casually.

He pointed at Brat while saying "this guy."

Brat felt a little annoyed, but he stayed quiet because he didn’t want Qiong Xing’s hand to stop patting his head.

"Oh, so magic can do that. Then maybe a shop that sells magic tools might have something useful. Let’s go check," Qiong Xing suggested.

And so, they ended up visiting a shop that sold magical tools.

"If you’re trying to sell us this kind of trash, are you asking to die? Or do you think we look like amateurs who don’t even know how to use magic tools?" Albe snapped.

The glare he gave the shopkeeper was fierce enough to rival a street thug.

Qiong Xing had brought them to the magic tool shop, but since he had previously bought several expensive magic items without hesitation, the shopkeeper must have thought he was easy money.

Qiong Xing had been searching for something that could be used to keep in contact, but the shopkeeper kept recommending completely unrelated items.

That was why Albe finally lost his patience.

And it wasn’t even that the items were useful.

They were cheap and low-quality things that had no real purpose in daily life and the way to use them wasn’t even clear.

If someone unfamiliar with magic tools came here, they might easily be fooled by the shopkeeper’s confident sales pitch.

But Albe was a demon skilled in magic, so tricks like that meant nothing to him.

"Um... is that really okay?" Brat asked quietly.

Albe had been threatening the shopkeeper almost like he was about to start a fight.

Brat wondered if Qiong Xing should stop him.

But when he asked, Qiong Xing simply replied calmly, "Why not? Everything Albe is saying is perfectly reasonable, isn’t it?"

That was true.

It really was true...

But still... Brat couldn’t help feeling a little uneasy.

Surprisingly, Qiong Xing did not stop Albe at all as he openly picked a fight with the shopkeeper.

Instead, he simply watched with a gentle smile.

Not only that, but he somehow pulled over a single chair from somewhere and sat down as he started reading a picture book together with the child.

"Cari, which story do you like the most?" Qiong Xing asked softly.
