A Favor Done, A Husband Won-Chapter 217 - 215: Jing Jihan’s Hand Pressed Against the Back of Her Head, Holding Her…
Chu Chao was panting heavily, bending down and leaning on his knees with both hands, unable to catch his breath, looking embarrassed at that indifferent man. In the next second, he turned around unexpectedly and ran in the opposite direction.
As a result, he was indeed blocked by the traffic police who had already surrounded the area from behind.
Chu Chao coughed hard and tried to struggle, occasionally turning his head to see where that bitch Shi Su had escaped to. But all around were traffic police and Z City police who had already gotten out of their cars and approached.
The man who got out of the black Bentley behind him walked over.
His heart was racing wildly, knowing he couldn’t escape anymore. He cast a cold and sinister glance at the people around him and felt as if a cage was descending upon him, shrouding him completely.
Chu Chao never expected that these people had come directly for him and not to catch that bitch, Shi Su.
"Who are you, you...what kind of people are you?!!"
"Why are you helping that bitch?"
"She just crashed a lot of public property driving away, aren’t you going after her?!"
"Are you with Shi Su?!!!"
——"Don’t move!"
Chu Chao yelled while struggling violently but was soon restrained by the police who had stepped forward. They quickly seized two knives and an ether gas device from his coat pocket.
But clearly, he hadn’t had the chance to use these, whereas his own eyes were red, obviously from being sprayed with a lot of pepper spray.
"Mr. Jing."
A traffic officer rode over on a motorcycle and whispered to the man in the black trench coat, "The lady was stopped by a police car, but she’s emotionally unstable and in a bad state. Moreover... she has a head injury and appears highly agitated, refusing to let anyone touch her."
"Zhou He," Jing Jihan turned his head.
Zhou He, who had come with the Bentley, hurried forward.
Usually, these matters outside the company were mostly handled by Lu Zhao who is always by Mr. Jing’s side. This was Zhou He’s first time involved in such an affair, and the excitement made his blood boil. He’d heard of some of the lesser-known experiences Mr. Jing had in the United States. At this moment, even orchestrating a police blockade in a small place like Z City was thrilling enough; Lu Zhao couldn’t imagine those years following Mr. Jing in the States.
"You go with him to the police station."
Hearing Mr. Jing’s instructions, Zhou He nodded quickly, "I’ll keep a close eye on that kid."
Jing Jihan glanced at Zhou He, whose expression seemed as though he had finally been entrusted with an important task, and without any change in his cold demeanor, turned towards the other exit of the alley.
Shi Su stumbled through the alley, blocked on both sides by police. The sound of sirens continuously echoed in her ears, her mind in chaos. Ultimately, she helplessly clung to her bag, one hand gripping the can of pepper spray. Frantically and watchfully, she scanned her surroundings, her usually clear eyes now bloodshot, the blood on her forehead still not dry, with a trickle flowing out, rolling down her cheek, winding its way downward, and dropping onto her shoulder.
Jing Jihan came from around the corner of the alley and saw Shi Su squatting in the middle, her wide eyes blank but alert, glancing around.
Her eyes seemed filled with immense panic, overwhelming all her reasoning, as though nightmares long suppressed had engulfed her completely, immersing her in a nightmare worse than reality.
He walked over.
Shi Su heard footsteps and jerked her head up, but it seemed she didn’t recognize him, her eyes filled with vigilance and fear, gripping the can of pepper spray tightly, hoarsely shouting, "Don’t come any closer!"
"Shi Su."
Jing Jihan didn’t stop. As he approached, Shi Su quickly stood up and backed away, raising the object in her hand to spray at him.
The man’s arm was faster than hers. As the pepper spray shot out, he leaned to the side, avoided it, and simultaneously gripped her wrist, snatching the object from her hand and tossing it at his feet, while pulling the screaming and struggling woman into his embrace.
"Shi Su, calm down, look closely at who I am!"
The woman in his arms struggled desperately, losing all reason, letting out cries of despair wrapped in intense fear.
Jing Jihan had thought that the time he’d seen Shi Su emerge from her room in the middle of the night searching for medicine because of a nightmare was her atypical extreme behavior with an otherwise calm and steady personality. Yet he hadn’t expected her to have such a breakdown moment.
What kind of nightmare could provoke her so?
What kind of impact could suddenly plunge her into such an overwhelming despair and breakdown?
A realization he could almost guess formed in his mind.
"Shi Su!" Jing Jihan pressed her back tightly, not letting her break free, and to prevent her from hurting herself.
He looked down and saw the blood on her shoulder.
Shi Su had gone out wearing a light beige shearling jacket, now her shoulder was a mess of red.
As striking as the wound on her forehead.
The sky had already gone dark, and the temperature at nighttime in Z City was below minus five degrees. To change clothes easily after arriving at the set, she was only wearing light clothing under the outer layer of her jacket.
While embracing her, Jing Jihan freed a hand to remove his own trench coat, gave her no opportunity to struggle or refuse, and wrapped it firmly around her back. He then looked down at the small woman sobbing to the point of suffocation, holding her cold face in his hands and softly comforting, "I’m here, it’s me, Shi Su, there’s no one else, look carefully, it’s me! Calm down! Shi Su!"
Shi Su couldn’t overpower him; her struggle gradually weakened because of his words, her eyes almost hollow as she looked at the person in front of her.
She took several deep breaths before gazing at him with shaking all over.
Yet she couldn’t utter a single word.
"Recognized me?" Jing Jihan held her firmly in his arms, also shielding her from the cold wind in the alley by pressing her directly against the wall, looking down into her eyes: "Listen to me. You did very well. Whoever attempted to hurt you today didn’t succeed. The person has been taken by the police, and you’re safe now, very safe. Believe me."
Shi Su regained her composure for a long time, seeing Jing Jihan’s white shirt collar and his hands stained with blood, clearly her own blood smeared on him during her earlier struggle.
She leaned limply back against the wall, or perhaps she didn’t entirely lean back, because his arm had been under her, preventing her from truly contacting the cold wall.
Seeing her recovered consciousness but not entirely free of shock, Jing Jihan placed a hand on the back of her head, pressing her to lean against his shoulder, holding her tightly in his arms, soothing the back of her head with calm and gentle strokes.
He leaned forward, his voice husky by her ear, "You did great, you were brave, it’s all over, be good, don’t be afraid."
