70s Delicate Girl: A Guide to Being a Rich Woman-Chapter 397: The Little Gluttonous Brother
For this lunch, eating the dishes made by Mrs. Liu, Madam Chen was astonished. Were these still the usual potatoes, celery, and meat she ate? Oh my, they were simply delicious.
"This Liu’s cooking is really so good," Madam Chen said as she ate and put more food into her obedient grandson’s bowl.
"Aunt Liu comes from a family of chefs, so her cooking is naturally delicious," Xu Mumu said with a smile.
After lunch, Xu Mumu noticed that her little brother’s stomach was bulging, clearly having eaten a lot.
Xu Mumu felt a bit helpless; she hadn’t noticed before, but now her little brother had overeaten.
"Fengfeng, how about we go for a walk?" Xu Mumu said, holding her little brother’s hand. The little guy was chubby, and you could poke a little dent in the back of his hand.
"Okay," the little guy said obediently. He originally didn’t want to move, but at home, he was taken out for a walk every day after meals.
Taking the little guy out for a walk, it was only natural that Yin Yang would join them. Seeing that Xu Mumu took over caring for Fengfeng, Madam Chen and the others stayed in the room to chat with Professor Song instead of going out.
The little guy was very curious about the outside world. The houses here were tall and looked different from those back home. There were also many cars here, and the little guy felt like he couldn’t see enough.
"Sister, cake," when they reached the supply and marketing cooperative, the little guy immediately noticed the various pastries on the counter, his eyes lighting up with desire.
"We have some at home, I’ll get you some later, alright?" Xu Mumu said warmly, looking somewhat amused at the little guy’s protruding tummy. He was already thinking about snacks right after eating, no wonder he was so chubby.
"Really, there are some?" The little guy tilted his head, looking at his sister.
"Yes, really. I’m not lying," Xu Mumu said, very seriously.
"Alright then," the little guy regretfully looked away; the cakes here looked different from those at home, and he wondered what they tasted like.
But since his sister said they had some, he figured he’d have them after they got back.
Looking at the little guy, Xu Mumu pinched his cheek, thinking how cute her little brother was.
Yin Yang also felt like laughing. Such a small child, yet so clever. He generally understood what people were saying, even though he could only speak simple words.
"I wonder how my grandma taught him to be so greedy," Xu Mumu said with a laugh.
"I think it’s good this way. Little brother is quite sturdy, not many kids in the provincial city grow this strong," Yin Yang said with a warm smile.
"It’s all thanks to my grandma’s spoiling," Xu Mumu twitched her lips. Although grandma didn’t have the nicest temper, she was very doting. She spoiled her dad, her, and now little brother too. Xu Hai had become lazy, the original Xu Mumu had aspirations too high for her situation, and although the little brother was still young, you couldn’t really tell yet.
But once the little guy grows up, with her and her brother watching over him, he probably wouldn’t be spoiled.
Holding her little brother’s hand, the three of them strolled outside a couple of times before taking the little guy back home.
As soon as they got back, he started chanting, "Sister, cake." The little guy held onto Xu Mumu’s hand, looking eagerly at his sister.
"You can have it after you nap; otherwise, your tummy will be uncomfortable," Xu Mumu said, twitching her lips. Did this child think about eating all day?
"I want to eat," the little guy stubbornly said, looking at Xu Mumu.
"Fengfeng, time to drink some honey water," Madam Chen’s voice came, rescuing Xu Mumu and making the little guy temporarily forget about the food.
The honey water had two slices of lemon in it, giving it a sweet and sour taste that the little guy loved, his big eyes narrowing in contentment.
"Come, grandma will take you for a nap, okay?" Madam Chen put the cup on the table and picked up Fengfeng. The little guy was sturdy and quite a handful.
"Okay," the little guy said. He napped every day, and for now, he’d forgotten about the pastries.
Again, Xu Mumu thought having elders at home was wonderful because they could help watch the children when you’re busy.
If the old couple had gone to live with the other Xu brothers, the task of taking care of the kids would have fallen on Li Caixia. Li Caixia wouldn’t be able to work, and the entire burden of living would fall on Xu Hai.
The little brother was coaxed to sleep by Madam Chen. In the room, Madam Chen had already put the clothes away in the cabinet, and Mrs. Liu had placed the food they brought in the utility room. The room was tidied up while Xu Mumu and the others took the little guy out to digest.
"Do you want to rest for a bit too?" Yin Yang asked, looking at Xu Mumu.
"No, I’ll keep you company while you read. I haven’t finished reading the books I borrowed," Xu Mumu shook her head. The books she borrowed were mostly about mechanical structures. Her goal was to improve the experimental equipment next door.
As for other experiment projects, she had no clue yet. She might as well improve this. If done right, the accuracy of the experimental data would be better, and the success rate would be more reliable, all influenced by these devices.
"Alright," Yin Yang nodded with a smile, pulling out his own books. He had finished studying the courses for this term and was now working on the next term’s courses.
The knowledge wasn’t difficult; the main task was to memorize everything. Doing well in exams was important because it would make getting a diploma easier.
The two studied quietly. When Old Xu, who couldn’t sleep well in a new bed, came out, he saw them.
Seeing the two studying so diligently, he felt a bit emotional. No wonder his granddaughter was so capable; she was so serious about her studies—much more serious than his eldest grandson.
Xu Minghui’s grades were good, but he focused more on group activities at school. He even held a position as a small committee member, so he always had a lot to do.
Thinking of his eldest grandson, he’d have to give him a good talking-to when they got back.
Old Xu didn’t disturb them. He took a bench and sat in the small courtyard. By this time, the sun wasn’t too hot, and the weather was cooling down. It was quite comfortable to bask in the sunlight.
Old Xu wasn’t sleeping, and Xu Mumu and Yin Yang noticed. Since Old Xu was sunbathing, which was fine, they didn’t bother him and continued reading.
Professor Song lay in bed reading and also noticed the two in the main room. Yin Yang had already informed him of his intentions.
Each generation has its own blessings, and Professor Song was too lazy to interfere. Yin Yang already had a lot on his plate; graduating earlier would be fine, at least he’d have a diploma.
Seeing Xu Mumu study diligently, he hoped she could learn more. The things she developed were very useful, and talents like hers should be fully utilized.
