Chapter 392: Nourishing the Body

"Not yet, don’t worry." Professor Jian patted Yin Yang on the shoulder. No one could have anticipated today’s events.

"Okay." Yin Yang nodded, anxiously waiting outside the operating room, not saying anything.

Xu Mumu felt equally uneasy. Professor Song was always very kind to her, and now that he was injured, she was deeply concerned too.

A group of people waited anxiously outside the operating room. After more than an hour, the doors finally opened; Professor Song had fractured his leg.

Following the nurse, they moved Professor Song to the ward, while Xu Mumu brought in dinner she had bought from outside.

"Everyone, have something to eat." Professor Song was already awake, talking with Yin Yang, and the two boys who had knocked him over stood awkwardly in front of him.

"You can’t be blamed for this incident. Just don’t fool around in the corridors next time. People pass by there frequently," Professor Song said gently to the two students.

"We won’t. We’ll never fool around again next time." One of the boys said seriously. This mischief already had too high a price; they wouldn’t dare try it again.

"Yes, Professor Song, we’re sorry." The slightly weaker-looking boy said, lowering his head.

"Alright, alright, you’re all grownups. I’m not that badly hurt." Professor Song spoke casually.

Only Yin Yang sat silently beside Professor Song. This incident made him want his grandfather to retire sooner. His grandfather’s health wasn’t great, and now he’s suffered all this.

Xu Mumu placed the specially ordered meal in front of Professor Song: "Sir Song, have some food."

"Mumu, you’re here too. You all still have classes tomorrow, yet you’re all running over to see me." Seeing the room crowded with people, Professor Song couldn’t help but complain.

"It’s fine, I only have half a day of classes tomorrow. I’ll just have someone take a leave for me," Xu Mumu said with a light smile. Even though it’s Sunday tomorrow, she needed to make up a class for a teacher who had previously taken leave; it’s just a half-day class.

Xu Mumu had already learned all the sophomore coursework, so even if she didn’t attend the makeup class, she could keep up with the progress.

"Grandfather, have some food. You’ve suffered a serious injury this time; you need to replenish yourself," Yin Yang took the food from Xu Mumu.

"I can do it myself; it’s just my leg that’s hurt, not my hand." Professor Song, seeing Yin Yang trying to feed him, immediately took the bowl from his hand. It was just a leg injury, and the anesthesia hadn’t worn off yet, so it didn’t hurt.

Seeing Professor Song eat, Xu Mumu was relieved. She planned to ask Mrs. Liu to prepare more nourishing food for Professor Song to eat when she returned tomorrow.

Once Professor Song had eaten, Xu Mumu and Yin Yang began to eat. The food from outside naturally couldn’t compare to home-cooked meals, but it wasn’t the time to think about such things.

That night, the two boys insisted on staying by Professor Song’s side and didn’t want to return to school. Xu Mumu originally planned to stay as well, but Yin Yang refused. Since there were enough people, there was no need for Xu Mumu to endure the hardship. Also, there weren’t many places to sleep in the hospital. As a male, he could squeeze in with the others, but if Xu Mumu stayed, it would be inconvenient.

With Yin Yang’s words, Xu Mumu didn’t insist further. After Zhou Yunhong escorted the dean and others back, he came to pick her up, and Xu Mumu left with Professor Jian to return to the courtyard.

Mrs. Liu had kept the meal warm in the pot, so Xu Mumu and the others, having already dined, didn’t eat.

Xu Mumu spoke with Mrs. Liu about preparing nutritional meals for Professor Song, and Mrs. Liu took note of it seriously, which reassured Xu Mumu enough to return to her room.

Once back in her room, the sky outside had turned dark, and the moon hung high and bright.

Xu Mumu thought about the situation at the hospital and couldn’t fall asleep.

She sat on the bed, turned on the light, and picked up a book to read.

Even while trying to read, Xu Mumu found it hard to focus, feeling annoyed. If she hadn’t gone out to have fun with Yin Yang today and had gone to the school with Professor Song instead, he probably wouldn’t have faced this danger.

Annoyed, she set the book aside and lay in bed, thinking a mess of thoughts, eventually, she drifted off to sleep in a daze.

Xu Mumu’s small bag was left with Yin Yang, who had put all the money and tickets in it. At Professor Song’s hospital, Yin Yang naturally did whatever made Professor Song comfortable since money was not an issue.

However, when the anesthesia wore off at night, the pain in the leg was excruciating, keeping Professor Song from sleeping well all night.

Yin Yang stayed attentive to Professor Song, and because Professor Song didn’t sleep well, neither did he.

Early in the morning, Xu Mumu got up and headed straight to the black market, which had plenty of great stuff. It was the perfect place to buy some nutritional food for Professor Song.

Soon after Xu Mumu got up, Mrs. Liu was also up. Xu Mumu said just a brief word before heading out.

The pig’s trotters Mrs. Liu had set to stew the previous night were now tender and soft, according to her check in the kitchen.

At the black market, which was bustling with people, Xu Mumu wasn’t overly surprised. In the Imperial City, there were definitely many rich people. She simply disguised herself slightly, making her face look more ordinary before entering.

There was a wide variety of items for sale at the black market. Xu Mumu headed straight for the food section, set her eyes on an old hen, asked for the price, and upon finding it reasonable, bought it outright.

Also available were wild forest mushrooms, and Xu Mumu bought them all. They were dried varieties, good for taking home and consuming at leisure.

Besides these, Xu Mumu bought some soybeans, fresh vegetables, and various dried goods—purchasing quite a haul before leaving the black market.

However, not far out of the market, Xu Mumu realized she was being followed. Not in the mood to play cat and mouse, she zigzagged through several alleys and lost them.

She returned to the courtyard, where Zhou Yunhong was already waiting.

Mrs. Liu was packing food boxes with meals for Professor Song and Yin Yang. Xu Mumu went over and deposited her purchases in the kitchen.

"Mrs. Liu, please stew this old hen later. I’ll come back at noon to get it," Xu Mumu said warmly.

"I understand, you both go ahead now." Mrs. Liu nodded earnestly. Working in this family, with such good people as Professor Song and others, she genuinely cared. Since she couldn’t help in other ways regarding Professor Song’s accident, she would just prepare nourishing food to aid his recovery.

After having a snack with Zhou Yunhong and asking Professor Jian to excuse her absence, Xu Mumu took the food box and got into Zhou Yunhong’s car.

They soon arrived at the hospital, still early, with Xu Mumu carrying fresh clothes for Professor Song and Yin Yang, she and Zhou Yunhong headed to the ward together.

In the ward, the two boys were tidying up Professor Song’s room, while Yin Yang was wiping his face.

"Sir Song, you must all be hungry by now. I brought breakfast for you," Xu Mumu revealed the prepared breakfast.
