Chapter 97: Lily’s Strategic Retreat

Lily stood nervously, her heart racing as she watched Ethan outside, still furious. Her hands trembled uncontrollably.

She was terrified. What would Ethan do to her if he discovered she had leaked the plan?

Ethan was so aggressive in his attacks on Carter Group right now. If he learned that she had been sabotaging everything from within...

Suddenly, Ethan’s voice roared through the room, "Lily! I’ll kick the door down if you don’t leave now!"

Lily bit her lip, steeling herself, and reluctantly opened the door.

Ethan was sitting on the sofa, his eyes narrowing as she hesitantly stepped out of the guest room. Her body was wrapped tightly in a thick coat that covered most of her, leaving only her pale calves visible.

"Lily! What are you doing?!" Ethan growled, glaring at her.

Where was the uniform?

What on earth was she wearing?

"It’s a little cold..." Lily lied, instinctively pulling the coat tighter around her. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"Cold?" Ethan stared at her in disbelief. She stood there nervously, her head bowed, her soft hair falling over her cheeks. Her face, pure and clean, looked slightly pale.

All he asked was for her to wear a uniform. Was it making her this uncomfortable?

Besides, it was just for him—was there any need for her to be this anxious?

Ethan stood up, grabbed the remote, and turned the air conditioning several degrees. Then he looked at her with an amused expression. "Lily, it’s not cold anymore. Where’s the uniform?"

Why couldn’t he just let go of this uniform thing?

Lily bit her lip, which had already turned pale. She didn’t want to wear such a tacky uniform before him. His naked gaze would make her feel even more degraded.

"Why is the phone on the floor?" she asked, desperately trying to change the subject. She bent down and picked up the phone he had thrown earlier, looking up at him curiously. "Why did you throw it?"

Ethan’s lips curved slightly. His mood had significantly improved after the frustrating phone call. "Lily, do you realize how obvious it is every time you try to change the subject?"

"No, it’s not."

"Where’s the uniform?" Ethan’s eyes narrowed, his gaze dropping to the thick coat she wore. His eyes were sharp and piercing as if he could see through her. "Are you wearing it under the coat?"

They stood face to face, his gaze fixated on her while she nervously bit her lip. The already warm air conditioning was even hotter, and the room was becoming stifling.

Ethan took a step closer, his large hand moving from her chin down to the buttons of her coat, slowly undoing them.

Lily bit her lip and stepped back, clearly uneasy.

"Lily, it’s just some fun between lovers. There’s no need to be so nervous," Ethan’s deep, seductive voice coaxed as he undid another button.

The deep blue of the policewoman’s uniform slowly came into view...

A glimpse of blue against her pale skin... It was already enough to tempt his eyes.

Ethan’s gaze darkened, and with increasing eagerness, he began to undo the rest of her coat’s buttons.

"Wait!" Lily suddenly grabbed the coat, stopping him from continuing.

"Lily—" Ethan growled in frustration, glaring at her. Was she going to back out now after already putting the uniform on?

Only one move left.

Lily bit her lip, her cheeks flushed as she pointed to the bed. "Let’s go to the bed."

Her soft voice was like a gentle hand stroking his heart. Ethan’s eyes darkened further, and a wicked smile tugged at his lips. "Lily, are you finally getting it?"

"..." Lily bit her lip, saying nothing.

It was just a uniform. Did she really need to look as if she were heading to her execution?

Was her sense of morality really that strict?

Not wanting to drag things out anymore, Ethan wrapped his arm around her and led her to the bed, gently pressing her shoulders down until she sat on the edge.

Lily tightly shut her eyes, her eyelashes trembling.

Ethan’s hand, poised to undo the final button, frozen. His low and hoarse voice teased her, "Lily, could you not look like you’re about to die in battle? It’s making it hard for me to continue."

How was he supposed to proceed like this?

They had already been intimate before—was there any need for her to act like a pure and innocent virgin?

Hearing this, Lily immediately stood up from the bed, her eyes lit. "You’re not going to continue? Then I’ll go change."

She had barely taken a step when Ethan grabbed her collar and pulled her back.

Lily fell onto the bed again, and Ethan grabbed her chin, forcing her to look up at him. His voice was magnetic as he asked, "Lily, do you really think I’m going to let you off that easily?"

He yanked her hands away from her coat, undoing the remaining buttons swiftly.

As expected, she had chosen the most conservative uniform, which was still provocative enough.

The deep blue short-sleeved shirt accentuated the fullness of her chest, while the miniskirt exposed her slender legs.

He had really found himself a treasure.

Ethan’s gaze was intense, his eyes dark and brooding.

Lily sat on the edge of the bed, feeling as if Ethan’s eyes were stripping away her clothing inch by inch, as though she weren’t wearing anything at all.

Without a word, Ethan leaned down and kissed her, starting gently, coaxing her into relaxation, trying to ease her discomfort.

His knee forcefully parted her legs, edging closer, and the kiss deepened.

Lily was forced to tilt her head back, accepting his dominating kiss. Her tightly pursed lips were pried open, and his hand wandered to her body.

At this rate, there was no escaping this...

Lily grabbed his wandering hand, but Ethan immediately pulled it free. "Don’t. You need to lie down—you’ll hurt yourself if you keep bending over like this."

Was she worried about him?

Ethan’s mood instantly lifted. He pressed a soft kiss to her lips, his breath hot and heavy. "Lily, are you trying to take the lead?"

That would be interesting—he had never experienced her being the one to take charge.

He wouldn’t mind her hands wandering over him...

Ethan leaned back against the headboard, still holding her hand, with a relaxed smile as if he were about to enjoy a grand feast. "Come kiss me. Let’s see how much you’ve improved."

Standing at the edge of the bed, she bent down and kissed him lightly.

Ethan, dissatisfied, grabbed her by the neck and pulled her down, deepening the kiss. Lily frowned, gently unclasping his hand and slowly moving it toward the bedpost...

She reached into her coat pocket and pulled out the handcuffs with her other hand.

"Lily, you’ve regressed," Ethan murmured against her lips, deepening the kiss further, his tongue exploring her mouth...

The next moment, the cold touch of metal clicked onto his wrist.

"Clink—"

The sound of metal locking against the bedpost.

Lily quickly jumped away, putting a safe distance between them. Her heart pounded wildly as she hastily buttoned up her coat.

She just hoped he wouldn’t completely lose his mind over this.

Ethan glared at her retreating figure. Sitting up in bed, he glanced down at his handcuffed wrist and immediately exploded in rage. "Lily! Are you looking to die?!"

His roar was so loud it startled her.

Lily flinched but tried to maintain her composure. "Ethan, I’m doing this for your own good. You’re not supposed to engage in any strenuous activity right now!"

"Lily! Just wait until I get my hands on you!"

Ethan shouted, yanking at the handcuffs, causing the entire bed to shake.

He’s completely lost it...

"Hey! If you keep thrashing around like that, I’ll call the doctor and have them sedate you!" Lily threatened, unable to hold back.

"You wouldn’t dare!"

"I absolutely would!" Lily shouted back, standing her ground and pretending to reach for the emergency button.

Ethan glared at her, his eyes full of fury. Reluctantly, he stopped struggling against the handcuffs and growled, "You win this time!"

"..." Lily exhaled slowly, relieved, and mumbled, "I’m only doing this for your own good."

Instead of gratitude, all she got was a murderous glare.

"Lily! You’d better hope I never recover from this injury!"

"Because when I do, you’ll get hurt!" Ethan growled through gritted teeth.

Was it essential to threaten her so blatantly?

"I’ll read to you," Lily said, dragging a chair far from the bed to avoid his reach. She picked up the novel and began reading aloud.

Ethan glared at her momentarily, but eventually, he stopped resisting.

When he healed, he would make sure she paid for this.

The afternoon was quiet, the sunlight warm. Lily sat in her chair in the luxurious hospital room, reading softly.

Ethan leaned back against the headboard, listening to her voice as his eyes slowly drifted shut.

Once he had fallen asleep, Lily finally stopped reading, her gaze lingering on his face for a long moment...

How long could this strange relationship between them last?

And how long could she stay by his side... before everything fell apart?

The next day, Ethan suddenly announced that they would return home immediately. Nanny began packing their belongings without delay.

Lily stared at Ethan, still sitting in bed, shocked. "Your injuries haven’t healed yet. You’ve only been in bed for a few days."

"I have urgent business back home," Ethan said, throwing on his coat as he got out of bed. As he fastened his cufflinks, his handsome face looked as determined as ever. "You and Nanny will fly home first. I need to go to Germany to report to my father."
