Chapter 94: Ethan’s Persistence

She dreamt of playing with Alex in the garden as a child... She had splashed water on herself, and Alex immediately rushed over, spreading his arms wide to shield her from the spray.

Back then, Alex’s shoulders were still small and immature...

The sunlight was just right, and the boy in her dream was as gentle as the flowing water.

Sunlight streamed through the windows, falling warmly on the large bed. Lily stretched and sat up. Nanny was walking out with a blanket in her hands. Seeing Lily awake, she smiled and asked, "Miss. Anderson, what beautiful dream had you smiling in your sleep?"

A beautiful dream, indeed.

Any dream with Alex in it was bound to be warm and wonderful.

He had always been the warmest light in her otherwise gloomy life...

"Yeah, it was a good dream," Lily said with a soft smile as she got out of bed. The sunlight outside the window bathed her in warmth, just like the happiness in her dream.

Glancing at the clock on the bedside table, she realized it was already 3 PM.

She had slept for a long time. She hadn’t slept this well in ages.

After washing up, Lily left the guest room to find the hospital room eerie quiet.

Nanny stood to the side with the blanket in her hands, and two doctors in white coats and four nurses stood behind her, all looking tense and on edge.

"Get out! All of you, get out!" Ethan was half-leaning against the headboard, his expression full of uncontrollable rage, his short black hair slightly disheveled.

Seeing Lily emerge, Nanny immediately looked to her for help. "Miss. Anderson, please say something to Mr. Blackwood. He refuses to let them run any tests."

Was Nanny treating her like some miracle worker now?

Ethan always called for her when he was angry. She feared that approaching him now would only burn her.

"Nanny, why are you being so annoying?!" Ethan shouted, clearly displeased.

Nanny quickly lowered her head, daring not to say another word.

Lily sighed inwardly, took the blanket from Nanny’s hands, and walked over to Ethan’s bedside. In a soft voice, she said, "It’s just a routine checkup. You don’t have to get out of bed, so why not just let them do it?"

Being in the hospital always involved tests. It was just a matter of checking his blood pressure and general condition...

Ethan glared at her. "I hate people touching me!"

Lily was speechless.

Right, no one was allowed to touch him. He was used to being the one touching others, wasn’t he? Especially women with D-cup figures... Lily thought to herself, her disdain evident.

Ethan’s face was still filled with anger, his temper flaring wildly.

Lily was about to give up, but then she caught Nanny’s pleading gaze, filled with hope and expectations.

Lily had no choice but to continue trying, her patience wearing thin. "What will it take for you to agree to the checkup?"

"I already said no. Tell them to get out!" Ethan barked without a trace of politeness.

Fine.

She really couldn’t persuade this third young master.

Lily gave Nanny a helpless look, then asked, "Nanny, I’m going to the dining hall to eat. Where’s Angus? I need him to order for me."

Order food?!

Did this woman not see him lying in a hospital bed?!

Three sentences in, and instead of comforting him, she was off to eat?! Was she tired of living?! Leaving him alone in the hospital room—was she out of her mind?!

"Lily!" Ethan glared at her, gritting his teeth.

"What is it?" Lily asked, her face confused as if she didn’t understand why he was yelling her name.

"If you take one step out of this room, just try it!"

"..." Why was he always so threatening? Lily frowned. "What, you won’t even let me eat?"

Could he be any more authoritative?

She was now sure that he had inherited his father’s worst traits.

Ethan snorted coldly, his gaze fixed on her. "Have Angus bring the food here. You can eat in front of me!"

With that, he forcefully grabbed the blanket from her hands and threw it over himself.

A tyrant.

An utterly childish tyrant.

Lily silently cursed him in her heart.

Ultimately, the doctors and nurses were dismissed without conducting the checkup...

Lily didn’t want to speak to Ethan, so she sat silently in the chair by his bed with her head lowered.

Soon, Butler Angus arrived, pushing a food cart full of delicious dishes into the hospital room. Politely, he gestured for Lily to start eating.

The cart contained dishes showcasing Copenhagen’s local specialties. Still, they were all light and easy on the stomach—various platters, steaming fragrant barley tea, a bowl of noodles, and some beautifully shaped bread.

It was a meal designed to stimulate anyone’s appetite.

"Eat," Ethan said, leaning back against the headboard with a smug look. His earlier anger had somewhat subsided, though his tone was still childish. "Weren’t you just complaining about being hungry?"

Fine, she would eat.

Lily stood up expressionlessly, walked over to the cart, and picked up the barley tea, taking a sip. The rich aroma spread through her mouth, instantly warming her stomach.

The soothing fragrance of the tea lifted her mood, which Ethan had soured.

"This type of noodle is quite popular in Copenhagen," Angus explained as he mixed the colorful ingredients into the noodles. "Please, Miss. Anderson, give it a try."

"Thank you." Lily smiled as she picked up the bowl and ate the noodles with a fork.

The sauce had a slightly tangy and sweet flavor, which she liked. The noodles were soft but still had a chewy texture.

After a few bites, she praised, "It’s delicious."

"Miss. Anderson, you should also try this platter. It’s highly recommended here," Angus said, lifting a colorful platter of roasted meats.

"What kind of meat is this?" Lily asked curiously.

"Miss. Anderson, this is—"

"Bring it over here!" The voice of a confident, neglected man interrupted from the hospital bed.

He let her eat, and now she was entirely focused on the food?! Was she asking for trouble?

This man... even lying in a hospital bed, he couldn’t sit still for a moment.

Still holding the bowl of noodles, Lily had no choice but to walk over to the bed, fork in hand. She raised a forkful of noodles to Ethan’s mouth.

Her obedient compliance made Ethan smirk smugly as he opened his mouth and ate the noodles.

The next second, Ethan spat them all out.

"Ethan!" Lily was furious. What exactly was he trying to do? He had been throwing tantrums since she woke up, and now he wouldn’t even let her eat in peace.

"That tastes disgusting!" Ethan scrunched his face in disdain before adding, "Worse than the noodles you cook!"

What did he mean "worse than her noodles"?!

Was that supposed to be a compliment or an insult?!

Lily’s patience was wearing thin. She slammed the bowl onto the bedside table, glaring at his furrowed brow. "Then what do you want to eat?"

"The noodles you make."

"... Didn’t you just say they were disgusting?"

"The noodles here are worse," Ethan said as if they were the most natural thing in the world, utterly oblivious to the contradictions in his words. "Go make me some noodles."

"Ethan!" Lily was beyond angry.

"Yes, that’s me. What’s the problem?" Seeing her eyes widen in fury, the smile on Ethan’s lips grew as if he was thoroughly enjoying himself.

She had been so focused on her meal that she hadn’t even glanced at him.

This woman... she deserved a little lesson.

With it, she’d learn.

"Nothing! I’ll go make your noodles right now!"

After all, there wasn’t much she could do about him. Especially when she remembered that the reason he was lying here was because he had come to help her get treatment...

A strange sense of guilt welled up inside her.

But really, did she owe him anything? He was injured, but it wasn’t like she had beaten him up.

When it came to who had treated whom better, he hadn’t exactly been kind to her—always yelling, always angry, even hitting her at times... And now, here she was, without any dignity or freedom, forced to stay by his side, imprisoned by him.

So why did she feel guilty?

When did their relationship become so confusing?

Lily glared at him fiercely, then limped into the kitchen, her steps still uneven.

The smile on Ethan’s lips vanished as he suddenly shouted, "Nanny! Get the wheelchair!"

Lily froze at his shout and then heard Nanny stumble out hurriedly. "Yes, Mr. Blackwood! I’ll get it right away!"

Her foot was almost healed, and he still wanted her to sit in a wheelchair.

Why did he pay close attention to even the most minor details about her?

Lily poured instant noodles into the boiling water, sliced some fresh vegetables from the kitchen, and added them to the pot.

Whenever she thought about Ethan’s arrogant and domineering attitude, she couldn’t help but sigh.

Who knew when his body would fully recover...

Lily carried the steaming bowl of noodles out of the kitchen, and Ethan patted the empty spot on the bed. "Come here. Feed me."

Where exactly was he injured? His arms or his ribs?! He couldn’t even feed himself now?

She wanted to dump the entire bowl of noodles on his arrogant face.

But in the end, Lily reluctantly sat beside him.

Without chopsticks, she awkwardly used a fork to scoop up some noodles. Blowing on them instinctively to cool them down, she brought the fork to Ethan’s lips. "Careful, it’s hot."

Ethan gazed at her with dark, intense eyes before opening his mouth to accept the noodles.

As always, the taste was familiar, much better than the hospital food.

Seeing that Ethan finally quieted down to eat, Lily breathed a sigh of relief. She feared he would complain about the taste again, then boss her around like a servant...

There was no sound but the quiet slurping of noodles. Ethan, like her, had always eaten quietly.

Lily continued feeding him small bites of noodles. Suddenly, Ethan frowned. "Lily! You didn’t blow on it!"

"Blow on what?" Lily asked, confused.

"The noodles. They’re too hot."

"These noodles aren’t hot anymore."

Was his sense of taste malfunctioning?

"If I say they’re hot, they’re hot! Lily, are you doubting me?"

Of course, she doubted him... Most noodles were already gone; how could they still be hot?

Suppressing the urge to throw the bowl at him, Lily blew on the already-cool noodles for show and then brought them to his lips.

Only then did Ethan eat the noodles with satisfaction, as if he had just been given something incredibly precious...

So childish.

"Mr. Blackwood, the wheelchair has arrived," Nanny said as she pushed a wheelchair into the room.

Butler Angus returned from removing the food cart and said, "Dr. Joel has completed his work as requested. He’s now available exclusively for Miss Anderson. Should we take her for her checkup now, Mr. Blackwood?"

Dr. Joel, Lily’s doctor.

At least the old man kept his word and didn’t kill Dr. Joel.

If it weren’t for Dr. Joel’s inability to schedule outside consultations, Ethan wouldn’t have had to travel to Europe... On the very first day, his father decides to target him.

"Lily, go get your checkup," Ethan said, sitting up straighter and suppressing the slight pain in his chest. He leaned in and kissed her lips before she could react, the scent of noodles lingering on his breath as his warm breath brushed against her clean-cut face.
