30 Days of Passion and Revenge-Chapter 139: We’re Already Over!
A white sports car sat quietly on the side of the road. Alex sat in the driver’s seat, his gaze fixed on the two people standing by the road. He couldn’t hear what they were saying from a distance, but they were standing very close... too close.
Didn’t she say she was going to sleep?
Why is she standing there with Ethan Blackwood?
Alex stared in silence, his brown eyes devoid of color. Glancing at the bouquet of roses beside him on the passenger seat, a sharp pang of pain twisted in his chest.
Picking up his phone, he dialed Lily’s number.
She stood right before Ethan, her head lowered when she heard her phone ring, but she didn’t answer.
The long piano ringtone played out, but still, she didn’t pick up.
Alex, unwilling to give up, called again. But once more, Lily didn’t answer...
She doesn’t want to pick up my call? Because she’s with Ethan?
Suddenly, Ethan reached out and grabbed her.
Alex couldn’t bear to watch anymore. He silently looked away, turned the car around, and drove off. The vibrant roses in the passenger seat instantly seemed to lose all their color.
I’m willing to give her time to sort out her feelings but after that?
Does her heart belong to me?
We just had a nine-year gap to fill. But will that gap stretch even further?
I don’t dare to chase after her, to demand an answer.
What if she tells me that her choice isn’t mine?
Alex slammed his foot on the accelerator, speeding away.
"Who was calling you?!"
Ethan grabbed her arm by the road and asked coldly, "Was it Alex Carter? Why didn’t you answer? Afraid he’d find out you were just in my arms, making love like a maniac?!"
His crude words made Lily feel nothing but disgust.
She didn’t answer Alex’s call because she didn’t want him to hear Ethan’s voice and misunderstand the situation. She didn’t want Alex to get into another confrontation with Ethan...
She was trying to protect Alex.
Ethan was a madman—there was nothing he wouldn’t do.
"Let go!" Lily used all her strength to shake off Ethan’s grip, her voice rising in anger. "Ethan Blackwood! We’re already over! Can’t you stop bothering me?!"
"Over?!"
She was telling him they were over?
Does she think I’m the kind of man who would just let her go so she could live happily ever after with Alex Carter? Is that what I am in her eyes? So generous?!
Dream on!
Ethan yanked her back, pulling her flush against his chest. His voice was low and menacing as he threatened, "Lily Anderson, let me warn you! If Alex Carter so much as touches a single hair on your head, I’ll chop you into pieces!" 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
"You’re insane!" Lily shouted, pushing against his chest with both hands, trying to break free.
Ethan’s iron grip held her tightly, and he glared at her, growling, "Lily Anderson! I dare you to repeat it!"
Does she think that just because she’s left me, she can insult me however she wants?
Lily finally managed to break free, taking several steps back and glaring at him with pure hatred. "Ethan Blackwood, you’re nothing but a beast! All you ever think about is sleeping with me! Is that all you ever think about?!"
Every time he spoke to her, it was about the same thing. What else could he talk about?
"And what are you thinking about?!" Ethan shot back, his eyes flashing with anger. "Sleeping with Alex Carter?! Sleeping with him isn’t beastly, is that it?!"
"You’re a pervert!" Lily screamed.
"And you can’t stop trembling in the arms of this pervert!" Ethan retorted, completely unashamed.
"Not everyone in the world is as filthy as you!"
"I may be filthy, but I’m still your man!"
"We’re not together anymore!"
"Want me to drag you back to that alley and remind you?!" Ethan’s voice dripped with sarcasm, a cold smile playing on his lips. She thinks she can win an argument with me using words like that.
"Ethan Blackwood, you’re sick!" Lily was so furious that her face turned pale. She was running out of insults to throw at him.
A few passersby nearby stopped to watch, curious about the heated argument. Some even pulled out their phones to take pictures...
"You wanna die?!"
When Ethan saw a camera flash, he stormed over and snatched the phone, smashing it to the ground. The brand-new phone shattered into pieces.
Lily felt like she was losing her mind. How did I end up standing here, arguing with Ethan about such senseless things?
Arguing about this on the side of the road... he’s dragging my IQ down with him.
"You’re shameless!"
Lily spat the insult at him and turned to leave.
Ethan quickly caught up to her, grabbing her hand again. Lily was beyond irritated now. "Ethan Blackwood, will you ever stop?!"
"No!" Ethan snapped, his eyes fixed on her, his voice full of stubborn rage.
Lily was speechless. He always manages to shout about the wrong things with such confidence, as if it’s me who’s in the wrong.
Her eyes flashed with an idea, and she forced a mocking smile. "Ethan, I’ve never met a man as pathetic as you. You lost the bet, yet you still can’t stop pestering me."
Pestering?
Does she think I want to chase after a woman who’s probably already been in bed with another man?
Blackwood Villa is full of reminders of her. The office is littered with her photos. Everywhere I drive, I see the hotel I opened for our 30-day anniversary...
Suppose it weren’t for her constantly appearing before me, distracting me from everything I do. Do you think I’d be here right now, unable to stop myself from coming after her?!
"Lily! You—"
"What? Do you love me? Is that it? You have so many women, but you can’t let me go, huh?" Lily interrupted him coldly, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Why don’t you tell me what you’re so obsessed with? If it’s my face, I’ll disfigure myself. If it’s my voice, I’ll drink poison to destroy my vocal cords!"
"I’m obsessed with everything about you! So go ahead and die if you want!" Ethan snarled, his voice tight with rage, his jaw clenched as he glared at her.
Everything about her? And now she wants to destroy all of that?
How could she think of herself that way? And if I mean so little to her, then why did she care if I died?
Lily, are you lying to yourself?!
Lily was momentarily stunned by his outburst, her eyes widening in surprise.
He said... he’s obsessed with everything about me...
For a brief moment, she was dazed, but then she quickly snapped out of it. He’s just trying to provoke me! Believing anything this man says would be foolish!
"Fine! I’ll go die right now!"
Lily defiantly turned and began walking toward the gap in the roadside barrier.
Does she want to die?
Ethan’s eyes blazed with fury as he watched her walk away, his chest heaving angrily.
Before she could even reach the road, Ethan grabbed her hand and yanked her back, pulling her away from the traffic.
He raised his fist, nearly ready to strike, but when he saw her pale, defiant face, he lowered it, forcing himself to calm down.
"Lily Anderson, are you that eager to die?!"
"Isn’t that what you want? For me to die?" Lily shot back coldly, her eyes full of disdain.
"You—"
"Ethan, don’t you think it’s pathetic for a man to push a woman to the point where she’d rather die than be with him?" Lily continued, her tone biting and sarcastic.
Ethan’s grip on her wrist tightened, and his dark eyes flickered with a rare moment of hesitation. He didn’t say anything for a long time before finally releasing her.
Lily was taken aback by how quickly he let her go. His face had frozen into an unreadable mask, and for once, he didn’t say anything.
It’s strange seeing Ethan Blackwood without his usual domineering attitude.
Lily glanced at her phone, checking the time. She didn’t bother to say anything more. "Ethan, stop following me if you’re a man!"
Her voice was cold and unforgiving.
Without another glance, Lily turned and walked away.
Ethan stood there, his expression dark as he watched her retreating figure.
"Ethan, don’t you think it’s pathetic for a man to push a woman to the point where she’d rather die than be with him?"
"Ethan, don’t you think it’s pathetic for a man to push a woman to the point where she’d rather die than be with him?"
"Ethan, don’t you think it’s pathetic for a man to push a woman to the point where she’d rather die than be with him?"
Her words echoed in his mind over and over...
I pushed her to the point where she’d rather die.
Would she prefer death to being with me?
If I didn’t care about her, I wouldn’t have gone to feed her every night when she refused to eat...
If I didn’t care about her, I wouldn’t have agreed to that ridiculous deal!
If I didn’t care about her, I wouldn’t have swapped the bullet in the revolver with a blank just before she and Alex left!
And now she tells me she’d rather die than be with me...
Lily Anderson, is your heart made of stone?!
Ethan stood by the roadside, his eyes locked on her as she walked further away. The streetlights cast a soft glow on her, but despite the warmth of the light, her figure looked cold and distant...
"Lily Anderson! I won’t let you go that easily!"
Ethan’s voice rang out, cold and filled with determination.
Lily’s body shivered, but she kept walking.
I thought he had let go.
But it turns out he never intended to let go of me...
No, he never intended to let me go in the first place.
As her figure disappeared from view, Ethan remained frozen in place, unmoving. The streetlights stretched his shadow long across the ground.
When Lily returned to the courtyard house, her aunt and uncle sat at the dining table. Her aunt immediately launched into a high-pitched tirade, "It’s almost morning by the time you come back with soy sauce!"
"Why were you out so late? I was just about to go out and look for you," her uncle asked, his voice filled with concern.
"I ran into someone I knew and stopped to chat," Lily said, placing the now-cold dishes back on the table. "I’ll heat the food. You two sit tight."
She busied herself with the household chores.
During dinner, her aunt continued to throw snide remarks her way. Still, every time she started to mention "mistress," her uncle sharply rebuked her. After a few rounds of this, her aunt finally dropped the subject of mistresses and prostitutes.
Thankfully, her uncle didn’t seem to suspect anything.
"Uncle, you should keep the magazine running," Lily suggested.
"I know what I need to do," her uncle replied, not committing to anything but not rejecting the idea either.
The rest of the meal passed peacefully. Afterward, Lily retreated to her small bedroom, where she took a long, hot shower, washing away the sticky feeling between her legs and scrubbing off every trace of Ethan’s scent.
Did what I said to Ethan hurt him?
Why did he, a man so prone to anger, look so... stunned?
It’s like he was caught entirely off guard.
Sitting at her small desk, Lily towel-dried her hair, her thoughts drifting back to the strange look on Ethan’s face. He had looked... wounded.
But a man like him? Would he even understand what it means to be hurt?
Maybe my words were harsh, but it’s not like he didn’t deserve it...
Shaking her head, Lily tried to push the thoughts away. A framed family photo from her childhood sat on her desk, and Lily smiled at the sight of it.
I’ll see Dad soon.
But what about Alex? Should I call him back? What if he’s already asleep? Would I be disturbing him?
Alex’s father’s words echoed in her mind.
"When you were studying abroad, she was already struggling to make her way in the world; while attending high-society galas, she was sneaking around trying to snap scandalous photos of celebrities."
I’ve known for a long time that my life is a mess, but hearing it laid out so plainly by someone like Uncle Bill... stings even more.
In the end, Lily decided not to call back. Instead, she climbed into bed and drifted off to sleep.
