Chapter 116: Lily’s New Role

"Let go of me! I can walk by myself!" Lily struggled fiercely, but Cipher ignored her resistance and continued pulling her along. Desperate, she turned her head and shouted toward Sophia, who was sitting on the hospital bed in a daze, "Sophia, don’t tell my uncle!"

"Huh?!" Sophia stared at her, still in shock and unable to process what was happening.

Cipher roughly shoved Lily into the car after dragging her out of the hospital.

Ethan sat in the back seat, his cold gaze on Lily as she was pushed inside. He snorted disdainfully, "Cipher, are you blind? Who told you to let her sit in the back with me?!"

"..." Cipher froze for a moment, clearly caught off guard.

Lily glared at Ethan, then pushed past Cipher to get out of the car and moved to the front passenger seat.

Ethan’s eyes remained cold as he glared at her sitting up front, a wave of irritation welling up in his chest.

Damn, Lily...

Back at the Blackwood villa, Lily followed behind Ethan in silence.

Nanny rushed over, concern written all over her face as she took Lily’s hand. "Miss Anderson, are you alright? What happened to your head and hand? Why are you hurt?"

Lily glared at Ethan’s tall figure in front of her, her voice laced with sarcasm, "Of course I’m fine. If I wasn’t beaten to death, I’m still alive and kicking."

Ethan suddenly turned around, his eyes dark and menacing as they locked onto her. "Lily! If you dare speak to me in that tone again, I’ll beat you so hard you won’t even remember your last name!"

Barbarian, tyrant, psychopath.

Lily cursed him silently in her heart, biting her lips and choosing not to respond, unwilling to provoke him further.

Sensing the tension, Nanny quickly tried to defuse the situation. "Miss Anderson, are you hungry? I’ll make some porridge for you."

"I—"

"I didn’t bring her back here to enjoy herself," Ethan cut Nanny off coldly, casting her a dismissive glance before turning his gaze to Lily. "Go make noodles."

"..." Lily stared at him, confused.

He hates noodles. Why would he want me to make them?

"Lily, from now on, you’re a maid in this house." Ethan’s voice was mocking as he looked down at her.

"No salary. Your only option is to obey. You have no other choice."

With that, Ethan turned and walked away.

Lily wanted nothing more than to kick him. He hates me so much that he’s making me a maid in his house?

"Come on, Miss Anderson..." Nanny said sympathetically.

Lily’s eyes dimmed with resignation.

What else can I do? I thought he would be done with me when Ethan told me to leave.

In less than a day, I’ve been dragged back.

He wants to play with me until I beg for death, doesn’t he?

Fine. Let’s see if my resolve is more vital than his cruelty.

Clenching her fists, Lily gritted her teeth and walked into the kitchen to boil water.

Nanny followed behind her, hovering nervously. After a long while, she seemed to gather her courage and finally said, "Miss Anderson, Mr. Blackwood cares about you."

That line again.

Lily looked at Nanny, exasperated. "Nanny, can we not talk about him? That’s the coldest joke I’ve ever heard."

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Even though she had almost believed it.

"It’s true. After Mr. Blackwood’s car accident, he didn’t want to eat anything—he only wanted the noodles you made. But he didn’t want you to know, so he wouldn’t even let me mention it to you." Nanny glanced around to ensure no one was listening before whispering to Lily.

Lily paused as she dropped the noodles into the boiling water. "He had a car accident?"

When?

Why didn’t I know?

"Mr. Blackwood still has bandages on his head. You two are a pair—both of you with head injuries," Nanny said. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

"..." Lily frowned. "Nanny, can you stick to the important details?"

How could we be a pair?

"Mr. Blackwood was unconscious for a day and a night after the accident. He refused to eat anything, and in the end, he finally demanded the noodles you made." Nanny whispered, leaning closer to Lily.

He hates noodles. Why would he insist on eating the noodles I make?

Lily hesitated momentarily before stiffly asking, "When was this car accident?"

"Three nights ago. He was speeding and crashed into the car in front of him."

That was the same night he found out about me and Alex.

Did he crash his car after leaving the 30-Day Anniversary Hotel? Was that such a big blow to him? Or was it just because his possessiveness was being challenged?

"Mr. Blackwood even started drinking because of you. He’s never drunk like that before.

"I can tell. He still reeks of alcohol. It’s disgusting," Lily said coldly, showing little reaction.

Seeing her response, Nanny understood the deep rift between her and Ethan. One was stubborn, the other was ruthless—resolving it would be a miracle.

"Well, I’ll leave you to it, Miss Lily," Nanny said before leaving.

Lily watched her go, her eyes clouded with emotion.

A few words from Nanny wouldn’t sway her. She used to think Nanny understood Ethan well but in reality?

She was sure that Ethan’s "care" for her was possessiveness.

She didn’t believe in it.

She didn’t believe in Ethan’s love.

Even as she thought this, Lily added more ingredients for healing wounds into the pot.

Staring at the pot of noodles, Lily almost wanted to smack herself.

Why am I hesitating?

I shouldn’t be conflicted. He’s a terrifying man—how could I be conflicted about someone like him?

Wearing plastic gloves, Lily carried a large bowl of noodles into the living room.

Ethan was lazily lounging on the sofa, holding a game controller. His long fingers moved nimbly across the buttons as enemies were shot down one by one on the large TV screen.

The sound of gunfire echoed through the room.

"The noodles are ready," Lily said, placing the bowl in front of him on the coffee table.

"Bring me the trash can!"

Ethan didn’t even look up, continuing to play his bloody video game.

Tyrant.

Lily glared at him, suppressing her anger. She grabbed the trash can and placed it in front of him.

"Bang—"

With a loud explosion, the entire TV screen erupted into chaos.

Lily glanced at the carnage on the screen and then at Ethan’s dark expression. This man—even how he plays video games—is ruthless.

Level cleared.

Ethan casually tossed the controller aside and glanced coldly at her. "You made these noodles?"

Did he think I’d get someone else to cook them?

"Lily!" Ethan’s deep voice growled her name, his thin lips curling into a scowl.

Lily took a deep breath, her voice flat and emotionless. "Yes, I made them."

"Good."

Ethan let out a cold laugh. He sat up straight, reached for the bowl of noodles, and—slowly—began tipping the bowl into the trash can.

Lily’s eyes widened in disbelief.

It was like watching a slow-motion scene from a movie. Ethan tilted the bowl at an angle, letting the noodles slide out, bit by bit, into the trash can. The noodles, along with the carefully chosen ingredients, fell into the garbage.

Lily stared in shock, forgetting what she had been about to say.

She had gone out of her way to pick ingredients that would help with healing, discarding the ones that weren’t good for wounds.

He hadn’t eaten properly for two or three days, so she had made the noodles extra soft.

And now, he hadn’t taken a single bite. He had thrown it all away.

The noodles slowly fell into the trash, one strand after another.

Ethan’s lips curled into a wicked smile, his dark eyes gleaming as he watched the noodles fall, savoring the moment.

Lily bit her lip, her eyes stinging with tears.

She wanted to laugh and mock him, but she didn’t know whether she should be laughing at Ethan or herself.

"They’re terrible. Make them again."

Ethan glanced at her, his magnetic voice dripping with contempt.

"If I make them again, will you just throw them away too?"

"Getting smarter, Lily," Ethan sneered, his eyes filled with mockery as he looked at her.

His gaze seemed to say, Yes, I’m messing with you. I’m playing with you. What are you going to do about it?

Tears welled up in Lily’s eyes and slid down her cheeks, warm against her skin.

Ethan’s expression faltered for a moment.

Lily quickly wiped her eyes and turned to leave.

I’m such a fool.

Why did I let Nanny’s words get to me?

What good comes from thinking Ethan is capable of kindness?

"Bang—"

Ethan suddenly kicked the trash can, sending it flying. His mocking smile vanished, and a somber, brooding expression took place.

An indescribable frustration gnawed at him.

His short hair was tousled.

His eyes were filled with exhaustion.

He should have been happy to see Lily cry. So why wasn’t he?

She had cried, but he didn’t feel the satisfaction of revenge.

"Bang—"

Ethan furiously grabbed the game controller and hurled it across the room, venting his unexplained anger.

Late at night.

"This will be your room from now on, Lily."

Nanny opened the door in the servant quarters connected to the Blackwood villa and gestured for Lily to step inside.

Other maids peeked out from their rooms, curious, disdainful, amused, or eager to watch the drama unfold. Their faces showed a variety of expressions.

Some of them even giggled quietly.

Lily’s status in the Blackwood household had plummeted.

The servant’s quarters were clean and more excellent than Sophia’s small apartment. The room had everything she needed, including a small kitchen and bathroom.

After Nanny left, Lily stepped inside, kicked off her shoes, and collapsed onto the carpet before the bed.

Today, she had made a total of 28 bowls of noodles.

Each time she finished, Ethan had personally dumped them out...

He had enjoyed watching her submit, his face smug and full of satisfaction.

Finally, when he had to leave for work, he had begrudgingly let her off.

Before leaving, Ethan had stood over her and sneered. "Lily, this is just the beginning."

His revenge against her was only beginning.

Lily stared down at her blistered hands, now scalded from the stove’s heat. Her eyes stung with unshed tears.

I’m no longer a mistress.

I’ve been demoted to the servants’ quarters...

"She’s so pathetic. Mr. Blackwood treats her like a blow-up doll."

"I thought she was different from the other women. She was with Mr. Blackwood for so long, even in the master bedroom. Turns out she’s just as worthless."

"Tsk tsk, a mistress reduced to living in the servants’ quarters."

"What did you expect? Mr. Blackwood has so many women. How long did you think he’d stay interested in her?"

"Come on, we must prepare desserts for Mr. Blackwood’s midnight meeting."

"Yeah, let’s go."

Footsteps echoed down the hallway outside her room.

The soundproofing in the servants’ quarters could have been better. Lily could clearly hear the maids’ gossip.

That’s right. Mr. Blackwood has plenty of women. He’s grown tired of me, but I still can’t escape. I’m stuck in this villa.

Sitting on the carpet, Lily rested her tired head against the bed, her eyes filled with a sense of helplessness.
