Chapter 106: The Unwanted Invitation

Lily instinctively tried to pull her hand away, but no matter how hard she struggled, she couldn’t break free from Ethan’s grip, and he forcefully dragged her along.

As soon as the door to the hospital room opened, the people standing outside surged forward, overwhelming the bodyguards who couldn’t hold them back.

"Mr. Blackwood, how’s your injury?"

"Mr. Blackwood, I’m the executive representative for the East China region of B.E. (Blackwood Enterprise). I came to see how you’re doing.

"Mr. Blackwood, I’ve brought some small gifts to wish you a speedy recovery."

"Get lost!" Ethan’s eyes flashed with murderous coldness as he kicked a fat, bald man who had rushed to the front, sending him flying.

Everyone immediately shrank back in fear, taking several steps away.

Ethan continued to drag Lily out of the hospital, and no one dared to approach them again, though they murmured and whispered among themselves.

"Isn’t that woman a servant?"

"She must be Mr. Blackwood’s new flame. Is she some celebrity?"

"Celebrity? I’ve never seen anyone like her in our circles."

Ethan whipped around angrily and shouted, "Shut the hell up!"

The hallway fell into a dead silence. You could have heard a pin drop.

Lily silently watched Ethan’s furious expression and slowly lowered her eyes.

Ethan dragged Lily to the car, shoved her into the driver’s seat, and then walked to the passenger side. His voice was cold as he ordered, "Drive home!"

The rain outside continued to pour relentlessly, the neon lights on the street reflecting off the wet pavement. There were fewer pedestrians than usual, and the windshield wipers cleared the view before the rain quickly obscured it again.

Inside the car, neither of them spoke. The silence was suffocating.

Lily drove toward Shallow Bay without saying a word, her face pale and her expression distant.

"You can tell your father I’m your boyfriend."

Ethan’s deep voice suddenly broke the terrifying quiet inside the car.

"Skrrt—"

Upon hearing those words, Lily’s entire body froze. She slammed on the brakes, pulling the car over to the side of the road. Her face was filled with disbelief as she turned to look at his cold expression.

Ethan glared at her, his tone icy and awkward. "What, you don’t want to?"

All the women he had been with before, he had never even acknowledged them as his mistresses—they were merely bed partners.

He was already thinking about her more than he ever had for anyone else.

Lily stared at him quietly, her voice hoarse as she asked, "And how exactly should I introduce you?"

"Obviously, as Ethan Blackwood!" Ethan snapped, his voice rising in frustration. "What, do you think I can’t be seen in public? What the hell do you mean by that, Lily?!"

Ethan Blackwood...

It wasn’t him who couldn’t be seen.

It was her.

"Ethan Blackwood of the Blackwood family in Europe?" Lily wanted to laugh, but she could only muster a bitter smile. "Do you have any idea how powerful your family is? How am I supposed to convince my father that the third young master of the Blackwood family is my boyfriend? That we’re planning to get married?"

What a joke...

They were utterly incompatible initially, even just based on their backgrounds.

It was exactly like what had happened in the hospital hallway earlier. When people saw her beside Ethan, they assumed she was his latest fling. No one would ever believe she was his legitimate girlfriend...

The idea that a young master of the prestigious Blackwood family would fall for a girl with no background—who would believe it?

Her father was an intelligent man, once a force to be reckoned with in the business world. There was no way he wouldn’t see through it...

"Do you want me to change my name or something?"

Ethan’s tone was cold and mocking. Did she think he couldn’t be seen in public? So what if his background was extensive? Being her boyfriend should make her father proud, not anxious. What was there to be conflicted about?

Change his name? What difference would that make?

Ethan’s aggressive and domineering personality would never sit well with her father. Even if her father believed Ethan was her boyfriend, he would probably urge her to break up immediately.

Not to mention, with Ethan’s haughty attitude—always flaunting his wealth, driving a different luxury car every day—how could her father not figure out the truth?

Lily didn’t say anything.

Ethan cursed, gritting his teeth as he made yet another concession. "So as long as I make people believe you’re my official girlfriend, you’ll stop causing trouble?!"

"I’ve never caused trouble."

Lily’s voice was calm.

She had always tried to reason calmly; he raged over nothing.

"And this isn’t causing trouble?!" Ethan grabbed her chin with his long fingers, forcing her to face him. His fiery eyes bore into hers. "Look at you—your eyes are bloodshot!"

"I... mmph."

Before Lily could respond, Ethan leaned in and kissed her.

This time, he wasn’t rough. His kiss was more controlled, more skillful. His hand pressed against the back of her head, guiding her to respond, a rare moment where he let his guard down completely.

Lily frowned, trying to pull away, but he wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into his embrace.

Her chin rested on his shoulder as he held her tightly.

Back in the master bedroom of the Blackwood villa, Ethan held her as usual. His hands moved slowly, undressing her piece by piece before he entered her, his movements gentle at first...

Lily lay on the bed, turning her head to gaze out the floor-to-ceiling window at the night sky.

Her heart felt empty.

She didn’t understand what Ethan’s words meant, nor did she understand why, after they had just been talking about ending things, they were now back in bed together...

The man who had wanted to punch her just moments ago was now moving inside her, his hands grasping her as if nothing had happened.

At first, Ethan’s movements were gentle, but soon he grew impatient with the slow pace. His thrusts became more forceful, more domineering.

Just like his personality—sometimes he could be kind, but his arrogance and self-centeredness always returned to the surface...

He never allowed anyone to say no to him. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

Ethan lowered his head and kissed her face, his hot lips trailing down her skin.

Lily bit her lip, determined not to make a sound...

"Lily, look at me!" Ethan’s lips moved to her eyes as his body thrust harder into hers, making her wince. She had no choice but to open her eyes and meet his intense gaze.

Ethan claimed her lips again, his heat consuming her as if he wanted to burn them both alive.

"Lily, I like hearing your voice."

His deep, magnetic voice whispered seductively in her ear as his teeth grazed her earlobe, his tongue teasing and licking...

Her ears were her most sensitive spot.

"Ugh—mm..." Lily shuddered under his touch, a low moan escaping her lips.

Hearing the sound he craved, Ethan smirked in satisfaction and continued his relentless assault on her body.

Lily didn’t remember when she fell asleep. Half-asleep, she vaguely heard someone knocking on the door.

Drowsily, she opened her eyes and saw Ethan, dressed in a robe, walking to the door. Nanny handed him a bottle of pills.

Ethan opened the bottle and swallowed the pills without hesitation.

Nanny, looking concerned, said, "Mr. Blackwood, you shouldn’t take painkillers like that."

"Shut up. Get out."

Ethan slammed the door with a scowl, pressing a hand to his chest. He returned to the bed, picked up a cup from the nightstand, and sipped water. Then he picked up his phone, lowering his voice as he spoke. "Don’t waste my time. If it’s not done by the day after tomorrow, I’ll break your neck."

Lily was too tired to stay awake, her legs clean and dry—there wasn’t a trace of stickiness...

Had Ethan bathed her?

Half-asleep, Lily’s mind wandered. The bed dipped beside her, and she was soon pulled into a warm embrace, her head resting on his arm.

Two days passed quietly.

Ethan sat in the study, flipping through a stack of data reports, his legs crossed. The only sound in the room was the rustling of papers.

Lily sat beside him, peeling an orange and feeding him one segment at a time. When he was engrossed in the reports, he ate without complaint. But when he was in the mood, he would catch her fingers in his mouth, teasingly licking them.

A notification sounded from his laptop—a voice message.

Ethan popped another orange segment into his mouth and clicked on the message. The voice on the other end was one Lily recognized—it was the man in charge of planning Ethan’s attack on the Carter Group.

"Mr. Blackwood."

"Speak." Ethan’s voice was cold as he took another bite of the orange Lily offered him.

"Carter Group has made a move. Alex Carter has been steadily buying up shares from various shareholders, and our plan to acquire their shares has been thwarted," the man on the recording continued. "Mr. Blackwood, I’ve investigated my team thoroughly. I swear on my life, there’s no mole."

"What am I supposed to do with your life? Feed it to the dogs?" Ethan sneered, slamming the pile of reports onto the desk in frustration.

"I agree it doesn’t make sense. Somehow, Carter Group has managed to avoid every trap we set."

"I don’t want excuses."

"Carter Group is throwing a party tonight to celebrate Alex Carter becoming the second-largest shareholder." The man hesitated before continuing, "I just ran into Secretary Helen. Carter Group sent an invitation to the company for tonight’s party."

Even though Lily wasn’t well-versed in the intricacies of business, she understood that this was a blatant provocation from Carter Group.

Ethan had been trying to acquire shares from the other shareholders, but the Carter family had gotten ahead of him and bought them all up.

Sending an invitation to the celebration... It was a clear act of defiance.

It was as if Carter Group was mocking Ethan’s failure to bring them down, rubbing salt in the wound.

Why would Carter Group send such an invitation? Weren’t they afraid of provoking Ethan further?

Lily couldn’t help but worry as she glanced at Ethan. His expression was dark, his gaze fixed on the laptop screen as he spoke coldly. "Fine. Let’s see what tricks the Carter family has up their sleeves."

After ending the voice message, Ethan stood up from his chair and glanced at his watch. "Lily, go change. We’re going to Carter Group’s celebration tonight."

Lily’s face went pale. "To Carter Group’s celebration?"

That meant she would run into Alex and Alice.

"Let’s go." Seeing her hesitation, Ethan scooped her up in his arms.

Lily stepped back, her eyes flashing with uncertainty. "I don’t want to go."

"Lily?" Ethan’s tone was laced with displeasure at being refused.

"I don’t want to go. I’ll stay home," Lily said, biting her lip.

"Is this about the car accident?"

"Huh?" Lily was confused by his question, then suddenly recalled the time she had been hit by a car belonging to the Carter Group. Ethan had always assumed she harbored a grudge against them...

"Lily, I’ll get revenge for you," Ethan said arrogantly, wrapping an arm around her shoulders and pulling her towards the door.

"Revenge?"

She didn’t need him to get revenge for her...

"We can throw red paint at their celebration or hire some thugs to wreck the place," Ethan said coldly, his eyes dark and unreadable. It was impossible to tell if he was joking or serious...

Lily’s heart skipped a beat. She quickly said, "I don’t care about that anymore. I don’t want to go."

"Be good. Go change."

Ethan patted her head like a child and gently pushed her into the walk-in closet. He didn’t follow her in, instead standing outside and making a phone call.
