Chapter 43: Can’t let Mother wait

Gu Chen sprinted through the thick, toxic fog, as his pristine white robes repelled the corrosive mist, glowing with a faint light.

His hands were twitching for a battle.

He expected to find a group of Gu Clan disciples making a desperate last stand against arrogant Bai Clan disciples.

He was ready to jump in, swing his sword, and save the day. He was ready to be the hero.

Instead, he burst into a scene of absolute horror.

Gu Chen stopped dead in his tracks, and his eyes went wide. The stench of burned flesh, spilled bowels, and fresh blood hit his nose like a punch.

He slowly lowered his sword.

"What in the heavens..." Gu Chen whispered.

There was no one to fight. He had walked into a slaughterhouse.

Five bodies lay scattered across the mud, and Gu Chen recognised the dark green and silver robes immediately. They were all Bai Clan disciples.

He walked forward cautiously, his boots squelching in the bloody mud. He looked down at the first body.

He looked like the leader of the squad.

His chest had a massive, gaping hole right through the centre. The edges of the wound were melted, blackened, and bubbling with residual acid. His heart was completely gone.

Gu Chen swallowed hard. He stepped over to the next two bodies.

Their upper torsos were completely obliterated. They looked like they had been hit by a falling boulder. Shredded flesh, shattered ribs, and minced organs were sprayed across a ten-metre radius.

He found the fourth man with a leg bent entirely backwards and a crushed throat.

The fifth man had his face caved in so deeply that his skull looked like a smashed bowl. Brain matter and teeth coated the roots of a nearby tree.

Gu Chen felt his stomach turn. He was a cultivator. He had killed before. But this wasn’t combat. This was obliteration.

"Who did this?" Gu Chen could not help but say out loud, his voice tight with anger and confusion, "Who could slaughter a five-man squad of Spirit Realm and Body Tempering cultivators this fast?"

He closed his eyes and concentrated. He pushed his Qi up into his skull.

When he opened his eyes, they glowed with a brilliant, blinding golden light. His innate ’Heavenly Eyes’ activated to their maximum capacity. He scanned the clearing, looking for residual Qi signatures. He looked for the killer’s footprints.

Instead, his vision was bombarded with pure chaos.

He didn’t see one set of tracks. He saw hundreds. Golden, phantom footprints overlapped each other in a dizzying, impossible web across the clearing.

They defied logic.

Some ran all the way up the trees. Some passed straight through solid trees. Some went in one direction. Some went in another.

The chaos was so messy and erratic that it gave Gu Chen an instant, splitting headache.

He groaned, gripping his temples and shutting his Heavenly Eyes down.

The killer hadn’t used some mystical evasion art.

He had deliberately sprinted all over the clearing in absolutely no definite pattern, crossing and recrossing his own path hundreds of times.

He had intentionally created a chaotic mess of tracks to confuse any sniffing dogs that tried to pursue him, perfectly blending his real exit path.

Gu Chen gritted his teeth. He kicked a bloody sabre on the ground, sending it flying into the bushes.

He was angry. He was deeply frustrated. There was a killer in this forest. A killer who was had killed the Bai Clan disciples in such a gruesome way.

And if they weren’t a member of the Gu Clan, sooner or later will come after the Gu Clan.

"I will find you," Gu Chen promised the empty clearing, gripping his sword hilt until his knuckles turned white, "No matter what dark art you use, justice will catch up to you."

Meanwhile several hours later, somewhere deeper in the forest.

The sun had already went down. The thick, toxic green miasma above had turned into a dirty, dark blood-red colour.

Gu Fan stood in a small clear area, and he was not having a good time.

A massive beast stood ten metres in front of him. It was a 2-horned toxic Rhino.

The rhino was the size of a small boat, covered in thick, grey furry armour. Two glowing green horns protruded from its snout, dripping with highly corrosive acid.

It was a beast at the 6th Stage of the Body Tempering Realm.

The rhino pawed the ground, letting out a deafening, snorting roar.

Gu Fan just sighed.

"Come on, you ugly bastard," Gu Fan muttered, dropping his stance slightly. "Hurry up. I am tired."

And as if understanding his words, the rhino charged. It moved shockingly fast for its size, lowering its head to impale Gu Fan on its dripping horn. The ground shook under its heavy hooves.

Gu Fan waited until the horn was less than a metre from his chest.

At that instant, he activated a fraction of the Sovereign Strike of Infinite Freedom.

He didn’t use the full domain, as he shifted sideways, and glided out of existence for a split second and reappeared directly beside the rhino’s massive head.

Gu Fan drove his right fist forward, and his fingernails hardened into claws again.

But Gu Fan didn’t hit the tough armour, as he punched directly into the soft, unarmoured socket of the rhino’s right eye, his arm sank in deep into his skull, right up to the elbow.

He channelled his Corrosive Qi directly into the beast’s skull.

"Enghhh!" The rhino let out a high-pitched, agonised squeal, and his massive body seized up. The corrosive venom instantly melted its brain into a hot, toxic soup. Its momentum carried it forward, Gu Fan sliding along with it before its legs gave out.

It crashed hard into the dirt, tearing up a long trench of mud before coming to a dead stop.

Gu Fan finally yanked his arm out of the eye socket.

Squelch!

A thick, foul-smelling geyser of black blood, eyeball jelly, and melted brain matter sprayed out. It splashed directly onto Gu Fan’s chest and face.

Gu Fan froze, as he looked down at his ruined clothes, and wiped a chunk of grey brain matter off his cheek with his left hand.

He was absolutely livid.

"Fuck!" Gu Fan shouted, kicking the massive rhino corpse in the jaw, "Fuck this stupid forest! Fuck the Heavenly Dao!"

He spat a mouthful of foul-tasting air onto the ground.

Since he had massacred the Bai Clan squad, he had been trying to follow the hidden map to the Blue Ghost Fire. But even with the map and the relatively quiet road, he did cross paths with crawling territorial beasts.

He had been forced to kill thirteen beasts in the last few hours. Thirteen annoying, aggressive animals ranging from the 1st Stage to the 7th Stage of the Body Tempering Realm.

He had punched snakes, crushed boars, and now, melted a rhino’s brain.

[System Notification]

[Target Eliminated: Toxic-Horned Rhino (6th Stage Body Tempering).]

[Action: Fatal Strike (Brain Destruction).]

[Siphoning Vitality...]

[50x Multiplier Active -> Massive Vitality assimilated!]

[Loot Acquired: 1 x 6th Stage of Body Tempering Rhino Core.]

[50x Multiplier Active -> 50 x 6th Stage of Body Tempering Cores added to Inventory!]

"Fuck!" Gu Fan glared at the blue text, "All this for some vitality. What good is vitality?"

[It keeps you going, Master!]

[As you fight a prolonger war, your vitality starts to drop and your motions begin to slow down.]

[Vitality assimilation helps your body regenerate and rejuvenate.]

"Whatever!" Gu Fan closed the system notifications.

The rewards were insane, but his mood was thoroughly ruined. He hated getting even his shoes muddy, and now he was covered in brain juice.

He looked up at the darkening red sky.

"I am done for today," Gu Fan grumbled, wiping his hands on the grass.

He knew his limits. He was at the 4th Stage of the Body Tempering Realm. His Ancient Venom Physique allowed him to hit like an 8th Stage cultivator, but that was it.

When the sun went down in the Ten Thousand Poison Forest, he won’t have the upper hand no more if he came across a Spirit Realm beast.

Gu Fan wasn’t going to fight a Spirit Realm beast in the dark. He wasn’t stupid.

So he quickly found a massive, ancient tree nearby. Its trunk was as wide as a tavern, and its branches were thicker than most pillars. He quickly scaled the rough bark, climbing high into the dense canopy.

Gu Fan settled onto a thick, flat branch that was wider than a queen-sized bed. It was highly elevated, giving him a good view of the surrounding lower canopy.

To ensure absolute safety, he opened his System Inventory and pulled out the Phantom Veil Cloak. He wrapped the heavy, pitch-black fabric around his body and pulled the hood over his head.

Instantly, his body blended into the dark wood. He became completely invisible to sight, sound, and spiritual sensing. Even if a Spirit Realm beast climbed this exact tree, it would walk right over him without knowing he was there.

Gu Fan leaned back against the trunk. He let out a long breath and opened his System Interface.

"Show me the total haul for today," he ordered.

[System Inventory: Joint Hunting Competition Assets]

[200 x 1st Stage Body Tempering Beast Cores]

[100 x 2nd Stage Body Tempering Beast Cores]

[100 x 3rd Stage Body Tempering Beast Cores]

[200 x 4th Stage Body Tempering Beast Cores]

[100 x 5th Stage Body Tempering Beast Cores]

[100 x 6th Stage Body Tempering Beast Cores]

[50 x 7th Stage Body Tempering Beast Cores]

Gu Fan stared at the numbers. A wide, evil grin spread across his face.

He hadn’t bothered to pick a single herb today. He hadn’t searched for any special flags. He just walked in a straight line and killed whatever attacked him.

With his temporary 50x Reward Multiplier, the math was utterly absurd. According to the rules the Elders announced, the math was simple.

[200 x 1st Stage Body Tempering Beast Cores]

[200 cores × 10 points = 2,000 points.]

[100 x 2nd Stage Body Tempering Beast Cores]

[100 cores × 10 points = 1,000 points.]

[100 x 3rd Stage Body Tempering Beast Cores]

[100 cores × 10 points = 1,000 points.]

[200 x 4th Stage Body Tempering Beast Cores]

[200 cores × 10 points = 2,000 points]

[100 x 5th Stage Body Tempering Beast Cores]

[100 cores × 10 points = 1,000 points]

[100 x 6th Stage Body Tempering Beast Cores]

[100 cores × 50 points = 5,000 points.]

[50 x 7th Stage Body Tempering Beast Cores]

[50 cores × 50 points = 2,500 points]

He currently sat on a total of 14,500 points. And it was just the first day.

The top geniuses of the Bai Clan and Gu Clan would be lucky to break 1,000 - 2,000 points by the end of the three-day trial.

Gu Fan chuckled, the sound muffled by his cloak. He had already generated enough points to easily win the entire competition single-handedly.

"I am going to ruin them," Gu Fan whispered, his eyes gleaming with greed.

But he wasn’t going to hand all this over to the Gu Clan. He was not a charity worker. He decided he would only hand over exactly enough cores to secure a place in top 10 and make sure Gu Clan won’t lose to the Bai Clan n this competition.

He could not have the Gu Clan going down the drain, at least not at this moment.

So he would keep the vast majority of the cores for his own cultivation.

He thought about the wagers placed between the Gu and Bai clans. The Spirit mines. The Herb monopolies. The Bai Clan was going to lose everything because they didn’t account for a transmigrator with a broken system.

His mind drifted from the loot to the women.

He could not help but remember Madam Li waiting back at the estate. He pictured her thick thighs and heavy breasts. And here he was, all alone on this tree branch.

Thinking about her, Gu Fan felt a sudden warmth rushed into his body as he felt his cock twitch.

He wanted to take that cold jade bracelet and slide it onto Madam Li’s delicate wrist while he held her from behind and rammed his cock inside her pussy and she begged for him to go faster.

"Ahh!" Gu Fan sighed as he thought about her, adjusting his cock over his trousers, "I will get out of here as soon as I get that Blue Ghost Fire."

"I can’t have mother wait for me for three days."

"If I don’t give her pussy a daily reminder."

"It might forget the shape of little Gu Fan."

"That’s blasphemous!"
