He flicked the blood off his blade, looking incredibly heroic as the surrounding Gu Clan disciples cheered for his brilliance.

Hearing the praises, Gu Chen smiled modestly, sheathing his sword.
But suddenly, Gu Chen staggered. He reached up, pressing a hand firmly against his forehead.
A sharp, piercing pain stabbed directly behind his eyes. His innate ’Heavenly Eyes’, the legendary physical trait that made him the golden boy of the clan were violently twitching.
Gu Chen gasped, his vision swimming for a brief second.

"I am fine," Gu Chen lied, dropping his hand from his face. His expression turned grim and deeply serious.
He looked back toward the direction they had just come from. He could feel the heavy residue of death lingering in the air.
’That bloodlust... it’s overwhelming,’ Gu Chen thought to himself, a genuine sense of horror gripping his chest. ’The Bai Clan must be moving faster than anticipated. They are likely slaughtering the weaker Gu Clan disciples, ambushing our rear guard. This is a tragedy.’
Gu Chen’s eyes narrowed, as he gripped his sword tighter. He was the most talented disciple of the Gu Clan.
If he didn’t stop this, who would? A small part of him burned with the desire to be the hero who stepped into the darkness, but his primary concern was the innocent lives being snuffed out.

"Brothers," Gu Chen announced loudly, his voice echoing with practiced nobility, "I sense a great disturbance near the outer edge. The Bai Clan is acting without honour. I cannot stand by while innocent blood is shed."

"Hold this position and gather herbs," Gu Chen commanded, drawing his sword once more, "I will go back alone. I will face this darkness myself to ensure your safety."
Without waiting for a response, Gu Chen sprinted back into the thick green fog, moving exactly toward the bloody clearing Gu Fan had just left.
