10x Rewards: Becoming Invincible With My Sign-in System-Chapter 252: Gratitude
Aegon was going to call Xavier, but stopped upon hearing Liliana’s words. He wondered what she meant by that, as he couldn’t quite understand her tone. It mostly remained the same no matter what she was feeling.
"Is he that bad?" he asked. "I heard the opposite, though."
"It’s not that," she shook her head. "He’s indeed a good man and a good match for Xiu. Only someone like him can handle her wild and unrestrained personality."
Aegon had to say he was growing more and more curious about Michael. One had to know that, be it Liliana or Xiu or even Aurelia, none of them were normal people and all of them spoke their minds.
If they were praising someone, that man must have something special to leave such an impression on these impressive people.
Of course, he was biased too as he simply couldn’t understand how Samuel, of all people, could have a son like that. It was simply unbelievable.
’But then again, he also has kids that make me wonder if they really share the same blood.’
"What I’m saying is, you should meet him first and observe him. You should see who he is with your own eyes and form an opinion," Liliana suggested. "Because a big part of Xiu’s decision will come down to how you see that man."
"I don’t think it’s my place to decide for her, but you’re right," Aegon nodded. "Even more reason to invite him for this. I can meet him without making any excuse."
Liliana hummed and said, "Just remember that he’s the Crown Prince and the next Emperor of this Empire."
Aegon fiddled with the communication stone and nodded. He understood the implications clearly, but he still hoped it wouldn’t get in the way of their relationship.
Sometimes, duty could kill love and vice versa.
He shook his head and called Xavier while thinking about everything Liliana said without explicitly saying it. If he had to conclude, she was just warning him not to be reckless with this.
[Look who decided to grace us with his presence? You actually remember me?]
"Looks like the First Prince isn’t as good as I heard," Aegon said.
[Huh? He’s very good. I’m telling you.]
"If he was that good, then you wouldn’t be so dramatic. You didn’t change one bit." He sighed in disappointment. "Guess I was hoping too much."
[Fuck off! No one in this world can break our friendship. For better or worse, you’re stuck with me. Forever.]
"Yeah yeah. Don’t remind me of bad things," Aegon smiled. "Also, even if I want to forget a smelly bug like you, I can’t because of my Perfect Memory."
[How do you even know how I smell, you creepy stalker?]
Aegon burst out laughing as he couldn’t hold back any longer.
[Hehe! So, how have you been, brother? Got successful in whatever you were doing?]
"I called you because of that," Aegon said. "Can you come back for a day? It’s really important."
[Hmm, I’ll have to ask Magister but I’m sure he’ll give me a few days of holiday. You see, I’ve been working very hard and impressed him.]
"How many of your bones were broken?" Aegon grinned and asked. "Because that’s the only way you can impress someone."
[Tsk tsk! You’re just jealous of my accomplishments.]
Aegon felt a nudge on his shoulder and turned his head to look at Liliana, who said in a low voice, "Impressing Mike is very difficult."
[What?]
"My mentor said it’s very easy to impress the First Prince," Aegon grinned even more while Liliana just facepalmed.
[Lies! She would never say that, you wretched golden retriever.]
Aegon’s lips twitched hearing that. Golden retrievers didn’t exist in this world, but he had told his friends how such an animal could exist and all that.
Of course, that was a mistake since Xavier began to call him that even though only his eyes were golden.
"Whatever! So, are you coming?" Aegon asked. "Actually, ask Senior to come too. It’s an important announcement that I want to share with him too."
[Buddy, he’s very busy so I doubt he’ll agree just for an announcement.]
"It isn’t just because of that," Aegon said. "I also want to show him my gratitude for teaching you. As you said, he’s very busy but he still made time to teach you. Besides, I want him to see your background too."
[My background? He already knows I come from a humble, small kingdom, brother.]
"Ah yeah, as if I don’t exist," Aegon rolled his eyes. "He should know he taught a Valerian’s brother and we aren’t ungrateful. If he denies, then let me talk with him."
[Sometimes I really wonder if you’re a sadist. You clearly love me but you insult me so much.]
"That’s my love language with you," Aegon shrugged. "You don’t want that?"
[Hell nah! I’ve become a masochist in this relationship by now. I don’t even know why I feel so proud and happy by arguing with you.]
"Maybe because it’s fun?"
[That’s true. I missed our usual nonsense in the past month, brother. And I’m glad you succeeded. I’ll talk to him, though I’m pretty sure he’ll agree. He likes you already.]
"Nice! Go, do it now. It’s an emergency meeting so come as quickly as possible," Aegon said.
[I got you! Will be there in no time...if he helps me. See you later. I’m excited for what you’re going to reveal.]
With that, the call was disconnected and Aegon couldn’t help but shake his head. As much as he loved to trash on Xavier, he loved him, so he really wanted to show his gratitude to Michael for everything he did.
Aegon knew very well that Xavier didn’t have that much talent, so he didn’t really suit becoming a student of someone like Michael Morningstar.
But the First Prince still did it and taught him well over the period. Aegon could sense it in Xavier’s voice—how happy he was to get this opportunity.
’Well, good for him. Now I need to call some other members. It’s time to assemble one more time!’
...
"Only three people left!"
Aegon had contacted everyone he wanted and called them back to Dusk City. If they were far away, then Red Veil would help them. Travel through the shadow realm wasn’t for everyone, but they could handle it.
Now, he was left with the last three people.
He started with Elara and called her.
[Haah! Haah! Hi!]
"Are you busy?" he asked, hearing her panting.
[No, it’s fine. I was just doing my last training. I can take a short break in between. So, what is it?]
’She was also pushing hard for the date.’
His heart swelled with happiness, realising that Elara was thinking the same as him. He smiled and said, "I was just wondering if you can come today."
There was a short pause as Elara took deep breaths to calm down.
[I can. As I said, it’s my last training. After this I’m free to go back, so I can come back in an hour or so. Why?]
"There’s just something I want everyone to see," Aegon said.
[You succeeded!?]
Aegon hummed.
[Congratulations! You did it!]
"I did it!" he chuckled, seeing her cheering in joy.
[You really did it! Let me complete this quickly. I’m coming back quickly. This is so exciting.]
"No, no. Take your time." Aegon hurriedly stopped her. "There’s no need to rush. I can wait. Everyone can wait."
[Don’t be stupid! I can do it, so don’t worry about it.]
"Fine! But don’t overexert yourself in the process," he said. "Also, you can tell that old man that he’s invited too."
[Uhh. He’s right here. So why don’t you tell him yourself?]
Before Aegon could say anything, he heard an annoying manly voice instead of the sweet feminine voice of his girlfriend.
[What were you saying?]
"Was just wondering how you can be so annoying," Aegon clicked his tongue.
[It’s an innate quality.]
Aegon was speechless. Who even bragged about this kind of thing?
[Anyway, you did it?]
"Kind of," Aegon nodded. "I’ll keep everything else a surprise so come quickly. I’ll show my greatest invention to everyone."
[You really did it, huh. I still can’t believe it. How did you even do it?]
"As I said, I’ll keep it a surprise for later," Aegon smiled. "Also, be prepared because I’ll ask for your help with this."
[It’s for the good of humanity, so you can ask for anything. Why do you think I allowed you to stay in my treasury for so long?]
Aegon had to say that he respected Amon. Even if he was shady and did things that annoyed people, he was wholeheartedly dedicated to humanity. It was clear the man was willing to go to any length for humanity.
That one aspect of him was the reason why Aegon and he even bonded over.
"That’s good. Now come quickly once El’s training is done. I’ll contact the other grumpy old man too."
