10x Rewards: Becoming Invincible With My Sign-in System-Chapter 251: SUCCESS
Aegon wondered why he was so nervous. Everything came out perfectly fine, just as he wished and expected. Sure, there were many times he almost failed, but it didn’t matter because in the end, he did succeed.
Then why was he still so nervous about checking it?
"Don’t worry about it." Liliana’s voice reached him. "You aren’t nervous about the results. You already know deep in your heart that it worked. You don’t need proof. You’re nervous about the aftermath."
Aegon turned towards her in mild surprise and then nodded in understanding. Indeed, he was more nervous about how all of this was going to play out.
Sure, he had created a miracle which would bring a new era for current humanity, but people who discovered nuclear reactions thought the same.
His intentions were good, but what if this product backfired instead? What if people found ways of using it in dangerous ways and it led to more destruction than the welfare of mankind?
Aegon had never considered these things before because none of the things he created previously could bring such huge changes to the world.
Even when he was working on the Mana Batteries, all of his focus was just on them and he was simply too excited at the prospect of creating something like that and having a blossoming entertainment industry in this world.
He never considered the drawbacks of his creation. Once he created something, it wouldn’t be his alone. The world could use it, and that meant dangerous people too.
’Am I creating a second nuclear bomb?’
Aegon felt a chill run down his spine as he considered the destructive uses of Mana Batteries. So many things came to his mind that chilled his heart.
The most prominent of them was destructive artefacts running on Essence. They weren’t common because they used too many Mana Stones at once and did a lot of damage.
There were artefacts which could wipe out tens of thousands of people at once.
Mana Batteries would remove a big limit from them, which meant they could be used more frequently and in greater numbers. The sheer destruction and mass killings they could cause made his blood run cold.
He felt a tap on his shoulder which brought him out of his reverie, as he slowly turned towards her and found her smiling gently.
"I’m glad to see my student isn’t a blind creator," Liliana said. "It’s good that you realise the weight of your creations. The responsibility you carry is immense, so that realisation is important."
Aegon turned back towards the machine and muttered, "I’m confused. Should I not have created this?"
"That’s something only you can decide," she responded calmly. "But as your mentor, I’ll make your paths clear so you can choose."
She took out a blade and asked, "What do you think about this blade? Why was it made? With what intentions did its creator carve such a valuable tool?"
Aegon stared at the sharp blade and answered, "Survival, I guess."
"That’s a good guess, but we’ll never know the true answer," Liliana nodded. "A blade is used for survival, even for basic things like cutting vegetables for your meal. Yet this same thing can take a life. The same creation serves two purposes, so who decides what to do with it?"
She smiled at him. "Answer me. Is it the creator or the wielder?"
"The wielder," Aegon nodded. "I understand that. But I’m still responsible since I’m the one giving the wielder the chance to choose."
"That’s true," Liliana nodded. "So what do you think? Should a creator create things knowing that it gives people options like those?"
Aegon studied the blade for a second before smiling. "Yes, they should. Yes, someone can choose the blade to kill someone, but it doesn’t erase the fact that it also saved many. In the end, everything can be used for all kinds of purposes, so it depends on who has that choice."
He sighed.
"It’s like stories. An author can create the story, but once it’s done, the story isn’t his alone. It belongs to the readers who can interpret it in many ways. And the author can’t do anything about that."
"Good boy!" Liliana smiled brightly and patted his head. "You learn quickly. I didn’t reach this realisation until much later. Though I’m fortunate enough since most of my inventions were used against the demons."
Aegon smiled. Brutality against demons wasn’t brutality at all. He would never word it like that.
’Damn, I’ve become racist here.’
Shaking his head, he took a deep breath and turned his focus back towards the machine where the results of his hard work lay.
’What am I worrying so much about? I hold so much authority that even if someone wants to misuse these, I can prevent it. Even if I can’t in rare cases, it’ll have insignificant effects compared to its good side.’
He didn’t hesitate any longer and picked up the metal box.
Staring at it, he hardened his heart and sent streams of mana inside it. A second passed. Then a minute. He remained silent as his focus remained on the metal box.
After a while, his lips curled up in a big smile as his heart began beating rapidly in excitement. He took a deep breath and then shouted, "I DID IT!!!"
Of course, no one heard about it except Liliana since there was a noise-cancellation Rune Formation embedded in the room. But he didn’t care.
Finally, he succeeded in something he had put so much effort into. Even if he already knew it would work, it still filled his whole being with boundless joy.
Liliana clapped from the side and said, still smiling, "Yes, you did it! You created a miracle, Aegon. Your name will go down in history as someone who introduced a new era for mankind."
Aegon smiled, as he could see the pride in her eyes. She wasn’t as enthusiastic as Xiu, but that was just her personality. Just because she didn’t show it openly didn’t mean her happiness for his achievements was any less.
He took a step forward and enveloped her in a tight hug, which surprised her as she stiffened for a second before relaxing and melting into his embrace.
"Thank you! This honestly wouldn’t have been successful without you," Aegon whispered his honest words. "Thanks for turning my wish into reality."
"Don’t underestimate yourself. You would have found a way even without my help," Liliana said, patting his back. "I trust your capabilities and potential."
"If I didn’t become second grandson, sure," he chuckled and pulled away. "But seriously, thanks for everything you’ve done. I learned a lot from you and there’s still so much left to learn, so please bestow your knowledge upon me."
"It’s there for you to take," Liliana smiled. "As long as you need me by your side, you’ll find me there. I won’t make that mistake again."
Aegon just smiled faintly at her words as he could sense her fear even now.
"So, are you going to take a rest?" Liliana asked. "You’ve outdone yourself."
"I’m exhausted, but I’m way too excited to rest," Aegon grinned widely and said. "I’m going to share this news with everyone first. I need to brag to them, after all."
Then without any hesitation, he called Xiu and said, "Xiu, can you arrange a celebration party in a short time?"
[Use your perfect memory, Little Sun. Otherwise it’ll rot.]
Aegon blinked in confusion.
[I already told you I’m preparing it two days ago.]
’Ah yeah, how did I forget that?’
[So I’m guessing you want to show the results to everyone, right?]
Aegon hummed and said, "Yes. I’ll invite everyone close to me."
[It still means a small party, dear. You don’t have many people close to you.]
A glint passed through his eyes as he grinned. "Then how about we invite some more trustworthy people?"
[Sure. Whatever suits you. I’ll prepare a grand celebration anyway.]
"We don’t waste food, Xiu," he sighed.
[Who said we’re wasting food? If there’s extra, then I’ll give it to all the orphanages and homeless people. Little Sun, there are way too many people who are in need of food.]
Aegon couldn’t argue with that logic, so he changed the subject. "Alright then, I’ll start with Xav. I’ll ask him to bring the First Prince with him too."
[Huh? Why?]
Aegon raised an eyebrow sensing the sudden rise in her voice. "Why not? Grandpa Sam is going to be there and I want to thank him for mentoring Xav. It’s the least I can do as his friend."
[Uh huh. Whatever. He’s probably busy so he won’t attend.]
"Xiu, just prepare for his arrival too, okay?" Aegon said.
[Sure, sure.]
With that, she hurriedly ended the call, which amused Aegon since she never ended his calls so quickly. The change was definitely because of that one name.
"You’re not trying what I’m thinking, right?" Liliana asked from the side, as she heard the whole conversation.
"I don’t know what you mean," Aegon quickly turned away.
"I suggest you meet him first."]
