Mystic Overlord: Reading Gives Strength - Chapter 1039 - 1033: Classification
Il began recounting her first experience:
"During the first loop, I was quite cautious in testing the boundaries here. When I reached the seaside, I found myself returning to my original location, so I simply launched an attack on the surroundings."
"The final result was that after I killed quite a few people, the entire space immediately collapsed and reset to the state when I first entered, and it even assigned me a new identity."
Ronald continued asking:
"So what about the second time?"
Il smiled, a bit shyly playing with the ends of her hair in front of her chest:
"Then the second time... I was a bit embarrassed and angry because of the first encounter. This time, without much investigation, I revealed my true form and began attacking the city."
"Speaking of which, the people in [Lachmont] really had some skills. Several so-called Grand Mages even dueled with me. However, after I killed three Grand Mages, the space reset again."
Hearing this, Ronald's gaze towards Il turned doubtful, and his tone in questions revealed oddity:
"So now, are you currently in the third space after two resets? If I recall correctly, you rolled out from the woods over there?"
"..."
With Ronald's question, Il's smile immediately froze on her face.
She put down her hand playing with her hair and scratched her cheek, glanced around, and finally continued:
"Well... I'm a bit drained from earlier actions, you know?"
"Since killing people causes a space reset, I decided to take root and draw nutrients from the earth. As soon as I sensed your presence, Boss, I rushed over here without delay!"
"Alright, alright."
Ronald waved his hand, no longer tangled in Il's explanation.
This person's character is such that encountering these kinds of experiences is only expected. With these details in mind, Ronald led Il to continue walking toward the city.
Meanwhile, some new doubts started to surface in his mind.
First, it's just Il and himself here, which is easy to explain. Most likely, it's because he possesses a fragment of Il's soul, causing a misjudgment in the space's configuration.
Originally, every person entering the ruins would be in a separate, independent space.
Then, there's this looping mechanism.
Ronald had experienced something similar earlier when he first traveled from Berenwich Train Station.
However, there are clear differences between the two.
At Berenwich Train Station, reaching the boundary would initiate a fixed time loop; whereas, the ruins of [Lachmont] are in a relatively stable state.
According to Il's account, at least in her third time recuperating here, in the absence of any destruction, this space operates with stability, showing no sign of ending or pending reset.
"..."
Thinking of this, Ronald silently summoned "Bradshaw's Railway Guide."
The original tome was functioning correctly, with the flow of time matching the external pace, and the temporal disruption capabilities were not activated.
Though not directly.
But this original tome still informed Ronald of the specialty of the space he currently occupied.
"No space-time interference..."
Ronald murmured softly to himself.
Since he's already in it, [Greed's Sin] cannot monitor the entire relic's state now, but what if he shifts the focus?
As he pondered, Ronald, along with Il, walked into [Lachmont].
This magical city on the sea was well-policed, with spell alerts in place. So Ronald and Il, both 'assigned' identities, did not even undergo basic checks and were able to walk smoothly down the streets.
Consequently, Ronald designated [Greed's Sin] arbitrarily onto a passerby on the street.
ā Marv.
ā Historical shadow of human remnants.
ā Ordinary citizen of [Lachmont], no spellcasting ability.
...
Historical shadow of human remnants?
Obtaining such information at the start can definitely be considered an unexpected joy.
Just seeing this description gave Ronald a hunch that the bizarre phenomena he encountered this time might be the result of a historical original tome.
He then shifted [Greed's Sin] to other individuals.
In the continuous collection of information, Ronald discovered more interesting details.
The residents of [Lachmont] generally fall into two categories.
The first is what he just saw, [historical shadow of human remnants], while the other is called [historical shadow of information remnants].
The former, as the name suggests, is what can be observed on the ordinary citizens in this city.
The latter, on the other hand, appears when individuals have a surname suffix and serve as Casters.
Within this relic, the divide between the two types of existences is clear.
Civilians have only first names without surnames and are labeled as [historical shadow of human remnants]; whereas Casters, even those who have learned only one spell, have a surname and are called [historical shadow of information remnants].
Ronald and Il walked to the interior without encountering any exceptions.
"Boss, I kind of like the architectural style here."
"When we go back to Culpis, can I have my house done like this?"
The two continued forward.
After passing through about a third of the city, Il couldn't help but speak:
"These sharp, high rooftops are just so appealing. Maybe while lying on them, I can catch a couple of birds to taste?"
"..."
Ronald rolled his eyes and casually replied:
"Once we return, you can do whatever you like, as long as you don't harm the other residents."
To be honest, the architecture of [Lachmont] is indeed beautiful.
Overall, because these buildings have existed since before the Dark Age, they are quite similar to the Wizard Towers of Barrier Mountain in the [Endless Negative Field], albeit with differences in details and architectural carvings. šÆš§ššš¬ššš£š¤šš®šµ.šš¤š¢
However, unlike Barrier Mountain, the civilian status here is noticeably better, and they enjoy decent living security within the city.
Thus, influenced by the Wizard Tower's architectural style, even the residences of regular citizens have approximated tower-like styles, directly turning the city into a majestic display of towering architecture.
It's only natural that Il would be drawn to such architectural styles.
They then continued advancing.
When about to cross half of the city's area, Ronald and Il were finally stopped by someone.
A guard, clearly a Caster, said in a very stern voice:
"You two, stop!"
"Ahead is the Academy District, no entry for non-Wizards!"
Almost simultaneously, Il also whispered into Ronald's ear:
"The last time I lost my temper, it was because I got blocked by a guard like this, which eventually made me furious."
