My Scheming Little Devil
Chapter 1256 What am I Supposed to Do Alone
Third Young Master Jun’s back stiffened slightly when he saw the remaining glimmers of hope and fear in her eyes.
"Not all hope is lost, Yan Su’s teacher is desperately researching a new type of antibiotic, but whether it works or not is still a fifty-fifty chance!"
In fact, the doctor had told him last time that his hope had dwindled to just 30 percent, and with his current poor health condition, even that slim chance might be gone.
But she needed this hope, so he would give it to her.
If he completely misled her, saying he could definitely be cured, she wouldn’t believe him. So let it be a fifty percent chance, enough to support her willpower.
Indeed, a strong light of hope arose in Ye Lu’s eyes as she tightly grasped his hand.
"As long as there’s still a chance for treatment, that’s enough; at least there’s a fifty percent chance. I believe, this fifty percent will definitely turn into one hundred percent."
She said tremblingly, unable to accept the fifty percent chance of failure. They must succeed; she must keep him alive.
The next day, as dawn was just breaking, she woke up nervous; knowing his illness, she had not been able to sleep, her mind filled with urgency and worry.
Now she just wanted to hurry up and escape this primeval forest.
His fever indicated that the disease had onset, she feared his high fever wouldn’t subside. In the case of any other complications, in this desolate place, it was akin to waiting for death.
The mere thought of that terrified her immensely.
Even regretting that they had not dared to cross through the forest, they could have at least stayed with the Su Family; even if they fell into the archpriest’s hands, at least he could have a doctor for emergency when falling ill. Now in such a place, if anything happened, it would be like shouting to the heavens with no response.
She took the initiative to pack up the luggage and take down the tent. Third Young Master Jun frowned, seeing her struggle with her belly, yet busying herself made him feel uneasy.
After packing up, they continued on their journey. This time, Ye Lu spoke up.
"I’ll pull the luggage. After so many days, food has diminished, and the baggage is much lighter, I can pull it!" She grabbed the rope first and tugged the luggage forward, a thin layer of sweat forming on her forehead.
"Are you insane? Is this what you should be doing?"
Third Young Master Jun snatched the rope from her hands, fury showing on his face. What kind of man was he, letting a pregnant woman do these tasks!
What if she had an accident from falling?
"Am I insane, or are you? Can you stop controlling me? I’m begging you."
Ye Lu, overwhelmed, looked up at his pale face, both angry and distraught.
"You have a fever now, you’re feeling dizzy and uncomfortable. You’re seriously ill, but I can’t let you keep resting because I fear we can’t make it out. But you also can’t keep exerting yourself, worsening the illness. What will I do alone if you collapse or something happens?"
He felt heartache for her; she equally felt heartache for him, fearing for his safety.
Right now, she didn’t think about anything else but hoped his condition could be controlled until they could make it out of the forest.
If she had realized his illness earlier the previous days, at least she could have lightened his burden, preventing him from overexertion and worsening the illness. Now she only hoped to do even a little for him.
"Fool, you’re pregnant." Third Young Master Jun softened his voice, caressing her head, "I know you’re worried about me, but I will never let you do these things. You have three lives depending on you now, this mountain path isn’t smooth, and a slight misstep could lead to a fall. Good girl, don’t make me worry; it’s not as serious as you imagine."
"But still..."
