Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!
Chapter 881: I’m Not Into You
Evelyn Linton quickly ate the noodles in her bowl, scanned the code to pay, and hurriedly followed them.
She saw Scott Sutton and the girl indeed walking into the gate of the residential area.
She had made it clear when renting the place: don’t bring your partner or friends over to live together.
Evelyn was thinking about how to talk to Scott Sutton when she saw him walking the girl to another building.
The girl then waved at him with a smile and walked into the building alone. It seemed she also lived in this neighborhood.
Evelyn started speculating—could this be a girl Scott Sutton met after moving here?
The girl seemed quite sweet and beautiful; naturally, they looked like a good match together.
Come to think of it, even if Scott Sutton has a girlfriend, why does he spend so much money tipping live streamers every day? He’s probably a jerk, right?
When Scott Sutton turned to leave, he saw Evelyn.
Evelyn didn’t dodge because the package locker was there; she could use it as an excuse for coming to pick up her delivery.
When their eyes met, Evelyn didn’t acknowledge Scott Sutton and walked straight to the package locker.
As she took out her phone to check the pickup code, she heard footsteps slowly approaching her.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Scott Sutton walking over. She pretended not to see him, appearing calm, but her heart inexplicably started racing.
"Is your cold getting better?" Scott Sutton’s gentle voice came from beside her.
Evelyn glanced sideways at Scott Sutton, then turned away, entering the pickup code while saying, "Mind your own business."
Scott Sutton: "Why are you so upset this early in the morning?"
Evelyn didn’t respond, reached out to take out the package boxes.
A total of three packages: one large cardboard box and two small ones. Evelyn could handle them herself, though it seemed a bit strenuous.
"Let me help." Scott Sutton reached out, wanting to assist.
But Evelyn evaded his hand, carrying the boxes herself while heading home, saying, "Maybe your girlfriend is watching you upstairs; you better keep your distance, so it doesn’t cause any misunderstandings."
Scott Sutton frowned slightly, puzzled: "My girlfriend?"
Evelyn huffed softly, briskly walking ahead.
Scott Sutton followed her leisurely and then thought she must have seen them earlier. He couldn’t help but smile, saying lightly, "She’s not my girlfriend; she’s my sister."
Evelyn looked unconvinced, "You men like randomly calling people your sister?"
Scott Sutton: "My actual sister. She was handling some school matters, and incidentally, her friend lives here, so she came to visit her friend. I ran into her on the way and dropped her off."
Evelyn finally hesitated to believe it, remaining silent. She vaguely remembered The Suttons seemed to have a little daughter, but wasn’t sure what she looked like.
Come to think of it, the girl did look somewhat familiar, maybe she’d seen her on the news.
Seeing the smaller package boxes about to fall, Scott Sutton reached out to take them, joking, "I feel like there was some misunderstanding?"
Evelyn’s back stiffened, and she recalled she might have felt a bit sour.
Being stared at with a meaningful gaze by Scott Sutton made her heart race faster, her face warmed up, but she said in a breezy tone, "What misunderstanding? I thought she was your girlfriend, afraid of causing misunderstandings, worried you wouldn’t be able to clear things up with your girlfriend later."
Scott Sutton chuckled, "Then I really should thank you for being so considerate."
Evelyn muttered, "Hmph, stop flattering yourself."
Scott Sutton joked, "I thought you were jealous just now."
Evelyn froze, quickly denying, "Don’t talk nonsense! Me, jealous of you? Wishful thinking! What could I see in you? So narcissistic!"
Scott Sutton: "Why so worked up over a joke? Besides, only you know what you see in me."
Evelyn emphasized loudly, "I don’t see anything in you!"
Scott Sutton found teasing her increasingly interesting, "If you don’t, you don’t. Why so loud? Generally, people speak forcefully to deceive themselves when being dishonest."
Evelyn reached the elevator, pressed the button, muttering softly, "I’m too lazy to talk to you."
Scott Sutton placed the smaller boxes back onto the large box Evelyn was holding, saying softly, "I’m heading out for a bit, be back this evening."
Evelyn balanced the box that was about to slip, "Go wherever, come back whenever, why tell me?"
"Afraid you’d worry."
"Who’d be worried about you? Hurry up and go; I’m closing the door!"
Scott Sutton nodded with a smile, noticed Evelyn’s hands were full, so he thoughtfully pressed the floor button for her before leaving the elevator.
Standing outside, right before the elevator door closed, Scott Sutton gently reminded, "Your voice still sounds hoarse, remember to take some cold medicine when you get back."
Hearing his sudden concern, Evelyn felt a warmth in her heart, and muttered quietly, "I know myself."
Scott Sutton softly replied, "Mm," and then the elevator door slowly closed.
Standing alone in the elevator, Evelyn’s heart continued to race.
She felt Scott Sutton indeed had a good temper. No matter what she said, he always had a smile on his face and spoke gently—he seemed to be a very gentle person.
However, jerks often act nice to everyone; she didn’t need to give him extra credit because of that.
...
Audrey Sutton received an invitation from the school to create a piece for the anniversary celebration.
So she went to school in the morning to chat about the general content with the teacher in charge.
Since Vanessa Sterling happened to live nearby, Audrey took the opportunity to visit, arranging to have lunch together with her.
After leaving Miles Sterling, Vanessa’s personality changed a lot; she laughed more and talked more.
At least not as timid as before, even speaking cautiously.
A lot of credit for this change goes to Heath Holloway’s carefree personality.
Although Heath often got into trouble, he was essentially a lovable goofball. When not causing issues, his personality was quite appealing.
During their previous travel, the two exchanged contact information, and have kept in touch since the trip ended.
Heath’s straightforward nature and enthusiasm towards Vanessa were apparent to everyone, including Vanessa herself.
However, Vanessa wasn’t ready to accept someone into her life, so she explicitly rejected Heath.
Heath took it in stride, saying if he couldn’t be her boyfriend, being friends was fine too.
Heath was quite chatty, always finding something to talk about with Vanessa, gradually helping her to become more cheerful.
