Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!
Chapter 843: Secrets in the Restaurant
The hospital isn’t very big, with no detailed division of departments, nor a dedicated pediatric clinic.
But for Anna’s minor cold, the doctors here should still be able to diagnose it.
The doctor was a slightly elderly grandmother, who looked like the kind of doctor with quite a bit of experience.
After a simple examination of Anna, she wrote down the names of medications on the prescription while speaking in the local dialect, "It’s nothing serious, just a cold from catching a chill. Take medicine and keep warm, that’s all."
Audrey Sutton understood the gist of it, and politely responded with a smile, "Thank you."
Probably having heard Audrey always speaking Mandarin, the doctor added while writing the prescription, "You guys are from out of town, aren’t you?"
Audrey paused for a moment and then nodded, "Yes, passing through here, so we decided to stay and play for a couple of days."
The doctor then said, "In that case, you should be careful. Don’t randomly go into the inns and bars around here. If you want to stay somewhere, book in the big hotel ahead, it’s safer and there aren’t any dodgy people there."
Shane Warner heard this and asked another question, "Has anything happened around here?"
The doctor sighed, "You wouldn’t know, anyway, there’s no big issue if you only stay a couple of days without going into bars and small inns around here. If strangers approach, don’t pay them any attention, you outsiders are the easiest to deceive."
Saying this, the doctor tore off the prescription and handed it to Shane Warner, "Here, turn right when you leave, go pay the fee and get the medicine."
Audrey Sutton thanked again, stood up holding Anna, then Shane Warner reached out to take Anna from Audrey Sutton’s arms, carefully putting an arm around Audrey Sutton, and they walked out of the doctor’s office.
There weren’t many people at the hospital, so there was no need to queue up, and they quickly obtained the medicine.
On leaving the hospital, Audrey Sutton curiously asked Shane Warner, "What did that old woman mean with those words? Is the public security bad here?"
Shane Warner casually replied, "Just stay by my side without running off. We’ll leave once the roads are clear."
Audrey Sutton said, "I should inform them when we get back, especially Faye Xavier, who loves going to bars."
When Audrey Sutton went back to join everyone, she heard that Faye Xavier and Luc had gone out with those girls, worried that something might happen to them, Audrey Sutton asked Shane Warner to call Faye Xavier to remind him, but the call didn’t go through.
Flora Lane assured, "One of the girls’ hometown is here, isn’t it? She should know the situation better than us, don’t worry about them."
Audrey Sutton said, "That’s true, let’s head to the hotel, then."
Audrey Sutton heeded the doctor’s advice and checked into the large, seemingly reputable hotel here. Opposite the hotel diagonally was a police station, which gave off a sense of security.
The weather remained gloomy, and though Anna had taken cold medicine, she still occasionally had a runny nose but was energetic, among the most lively of the group of children.
Having heard there’s something unusual about the situation here, coupled with sporadic rain outside, everyone decided to stay in the suite to watch TV and play games that evening.
Audrey Sutton also noticed that the streets here seemed quite deserted, with mysterious-looking vehicles occasionally stopping in front of the small inns, seemingly up to some shady business.
In a restaurant along the street, a few women and two men in suits were in a private room on the second floor.
The dishes on the table were hardly touched, and none of the bottles were empty, but the two men appeared to have drunk themselves into a stupor, leaning on the edge of the table motionlessly.
A brunette woman finished a phone call and pushed the door open to enter, then said to the other women in the room, "I’ve informed Ms. Reid to come over for inspection. These two have good figures and looks, should fetch a good price."
A bob-cut woman looked regretfully at the unconscious Faye Xavier and said, "Actually, I wish to play with Brother Faye a bit longer. Such quality men are rare, if they’re sent to Ms. Reid, I’ll have to pay to find him in the future, right?"
"Candy, what nonsense are you spouting? You dare to seek him out? Aren’t you afraid he’ll skin you alive? We do this for a living, take the money and go, live freely, no need for sentimental attachments."
"Actually, the ones traveling with us this time, aside from these two, the others are good-looking too, especially that Shane. It’s a pity his wife is too close to him, we couldn’t even get a chance to talk to him, otherwise, that man could fetch an unprecedented high price."
The brunette woman said, "It’s already hard enough to trick these two over here. I don’t think that group are decent folks, once we get the money, let’s leave immediately and not linger."
While they were talking, the room’s door was opened from the outside, and a woman wearing a sexy cheongsam led in four muscular men.
The brunette woman went up to greet, "Ms. Reid."
Ms. Reid curled her red lips into a smile and asked, "Where’s the goods?"
The brunette side-stepped to clear a path and pointed to the unconscious Faye Xavier and Morgan Quinn, "They’re both grade S, Ms. Reid, name your price."
Ms. Reid walked over, lifted Faye Xavier’s chin to examine him, and smiled satisfied, "Yes, they’re good. You and I are straightforward people, no need for bargaining, five hundred thousand for both."
"Deal."
"Money as usual, go to the store to claim it at the scheduled time." Ms. Reid said, signaling the four bodyguards behind her, who immediately came forward and lifted the bodies of Faye Xavier and Morgan Quinn.
From a hidden door in the first-floor kitchen of the restaurant, they quietly led the men away...
An hour later, Morgan Quinn woke up first.
He rubbed his dizzy head, took in the unfamiliar surroundings, and frowned.
Where was this? It looked like a hotel room, he had no idea how he’d ended up here.
As he moved to get out of bed, he realized there was another person on the bed.
Looking down, he saw it was Faye Xavier, so he hurriedly gave him a nudge with his foot, "Hey! Wake up! Stop sleeping!"
Faye Xavier frowned and opened his eyes, momentarily dazed, and said irritably to Morgan Quinn, "What’s going on? You’re acting all jumpy."
Morgan Quinn said, "Something seems off. Where are we?"
Upon hearing this, Faye Xavier reluctantly sat up in the bed, looked at the unfamiliar room, and after a moment’s reflection, said in confusion, "Where’s Candy? Weren’t we dining with them?"
"I bet it was those women causing trouble! That wine’s problematic! What’s the situation now?"
Faye Xavier said, "Let’s go, let’s check it out first."
