Mommy Wolf: Raise A Cub, Claimed By His Beast Daddy
Chapter 306: Epilogue: The Cherry Blossoms Shall Bloom Forever (END)
[Song Recommendation: Inuyasha OST - To Love’s End.]
"I, Kael, the King of the Beast Kingdom, hereby abdicate from my position as the monarch and declare my son, Sael, to become the new King of the Beast Kingdom! All of you shall bow to his power and sovereignty, obey his rules, and support him through his kingship!"
Kael stood up from the uncomfortable wolf throne chair, which had been transported from the throne room to the capital square, and allowed his son to sit down on it as a symbol that he had passed the throne to Jojo.
Once Jojo sat down while being witnessed by every beastman in the Beast Kingdom, all the generals began chanting together.
"LONG LIVE SAEL, THE BEAST KING! MAY HE PROSPER FOREVER AND MORE!"
Then, all the civilians were chanting the same thing repeatedly.
"LONG LIVE SAEL, THE BEAST KING! MAY HE PROSPER FOREVER AND MORE!"
Vivi was standing right next to the throne. She murmured the same chant, but modified it a little, "Long live, um... Big Brother... may he go to the faerie land with me and play with Grandpa Sebek and the faeries, and um... hunt me a buffalo again."
Jojo almost laughed hearing his little sister’s request. He wanted to hug her and pinch her chubby cheeks, but tried to hold himself because he was still in his regal attire and had to look both majestic and intimidating in front of the civilians.
It was already dusk once the long coronation ceremony had ended. Kael, Jojo, and Vivi returned to the palace.
As they walked through the corridor, they bumped into Ruela and Garou, who had just returned from the Queen’s courtyard.
Garou had been reinstated as the General, replacing General Pell, who had gotten too old and wanted to retire. He had finally surpassed General Pell as the strongest general in the Beast Kingdom, second to Kael, and also mentored Biell, General Pell’s son, as the young general.
Ruela had been working for over ten years, making sure that the civilians would accept the regime change well, and with Jojo coming of age, everyone basically worshipped him just as much as they worshipped Kael, even though Jojo rarely showed his destructive power. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Ruela’s voice was permanently damaged, but Garou still loved her nonetheless.
Yes, Garou and Ruela were newlyweds. Their romance blossomed after the war against the human kingdom, but it took a good while until Garou understood his own feelings.
Garou and Ruela bowed in front of them and said, "Long live the Beast King!"
"Okay, okay, you don’t have to do this in front of me," Jojo chuckled. "We’ve known each other for a long time, Ruela, Garou."
"No, we can’t do that, My King. It is to preserve your dignity!" Garou refused.
"We’ve just paid our respects to Queen Sisi’s cherry blossom tree, and... I think something’s happening there, My King."
Kael and Jojo lost their smiles instantly. "What happened?"
"The pink cherry blossoms... have turned white..." Ruela reported.
With that, Kael and Jojo rushed to the garden while carrying Vivi. They didn’t know what was happening, but they were scared of every change in the cherry blossom, because just like every beautiful plant, the cherry blossom is a short-lived, fragile flower in the end.
As they rushed towards the garden, everyone had already gathered around the cherry blossom tree that bloomed eternally. For the past ten years, it had become a place of worship for everyone who visited the palace, because they knew the spirit of their Queen Sisi resided there, or at least that it had been blessed by the faeries personally.
Once the new Beast King and his family arrived, everyone silently left the garden, as the king would always demand peace and alone time there.
Kael’s heart dropped when he saw that the pink petals had indeed turned completely white, and so had the petal field. He didn’t know what happened, but he was extremely anxious right now, because today was supposed to be the day when he reunited with his beloved wife.
"Jojo, Vivi, can you see Mommy now?" Kael asked.
Jojo and Vivi also turned pale as they shook their heads in unison.
"I can’t see Mommy..." Vivi said.
"And I can’t see her too, Dad..." Jojo added.
Kael was on the brink of losing himself right now. But he stayed strong and firmly believed in his wife’s promise, so he said, "Then, try to walk into the petal field and see if you can see her."
Vivi and Jojo tried to walk in as usual, but this time, they were repelled at the same time. They finally felt the invisible wall like what their father had felt for the past ten years.
"Dad, we can’t—" Jojo said as he looked over his shoulder toward his father.
Kael clenched his fists as his crimson eyes had lost all their luster. He slowly walked toward the petal field, wanting to feel the invisible wall again, but this time...
He could actually walk into the white petal field.
His nose was hit by the fragrant scent that only his beloved had. It had been more than ten years, and he truly missed this scent. He closed his eyes and inhaled as much as possible to remember his beloved’s face that had never left his dreams.
"Wife... where are you? I’ve done my duty to raise our children correctly for the past ten years. Vivi is now the Darling of the Earth, and Jojo is now the new Beast King. They will have each other’s backs in the future.
"But what about me? I am now old and tired. I can’t go on without you by my side..."
...
There was a long silence around him initially, until he finally heard his beloved’s voice for the first time after ten years, and she started it with a little joke.
"You won’t be able to see me if you don’t open your eyes, husband."
Kael opened his eyes slowly, and he finally saw her... his beloved wife Sisi, who slowly walked from behind the tree bark.
She was wearing the same wedding dress made out of flowers during their wedding ceremony. Her iridescent wings fluttered with excitement as her pair of violet eyes met his crimson ones.
She was holding a pink umbrella to cover her intricate hair ornament as the white petals kept falling from the tree.
She hadn’t aged since the last time he met her, as if time had frozen for her.
"Sisi..."
"Kael..." Sisi smiled bashfully. "It has been a while. Why don’t you hug—"
Before Sisi could even finish her sentence, Kael had already walked toward her in hurried steps.
He hugged her tightly, pulling her into his embrace for a while before grabbing her hips and lifting her up.
Sisi dropped the pink umbrella, allowing the white cherry blossom petals to fall on them as they embraced each other with a passionate kiss full of longing and joy.
"Sisi... Sisi..." Kael kept calling her even after they had ended their long kiss. He buried his face in her neck, wanting to make sure that she wouldn’t leave anymore.
"You’ve fulfilled your promise, and so have I," Sisi said. "But I am on borrowed time, husband. Indeed, I have been reborn, but as the new Mother Nature, I’ll have to leave this place and travel the world to maintain the balance of nature, because my grandmother is too old to do that."
"Then bring me with you! I refuse to be separated from you anymore!" Kael begged as he hugged her even tighter. "Please... wife..."
"Calm down, husband. You’re also on borrowed time. You were meant to die alone and in agony by now, but since you’ve proven that you can teach the Dawn Star to be a good man, then your duty in this world is done. You no longer need to stay..." Sisi replied. "And that means you should accompany me for eternity as my fated mate."
"I am willing!" Kael stated immediately.
"Then, let’s see our children for the last time, shall we?"
Jojo and Vivi stood side by side, holding hands, staring at the rain of white cherry blossom petals for a long time, silently waiting for their parents to appear.
They were about to lose hope until they finally saw their parents holding each other’s hands as they waved toward them.
"Jojo! Vivi!"
"Mommy! Daddy!"
"Mom! Dad!"
Jojo and Vivi wanted to hug their parents, but the invisible wall made it impossible. Jojo was about to use his power to force reality and break the wall, but his mother stopped him.
"Don’t do that, Jojo. You two cannot enter this place anymore, because your father and I are no longer among the living," Sisi said. "We are nature’s spirits now. We live in an entirely different realm from you two."
"But, Mommy... Daddy..." Vivi whimpered.
Sisi smiled at her daughter. "Vivi, you are the Darling of the Earth. Listen to your Grandma Tree, and also support your big brother, okay? Mommy and Daddy will always watch over you, so don’t be naughty, alright?"
Vivi wiped her tears and nodded.
"Mom... Dad..."
"Jojo, listen to me," Kael said. "You are the Beast King now. Be a good king, a good man, and a good brother to your little sister. Protect them with all your might. Don’t show weakness in front of others except to those you trust and love, alright?"
Jojo bit his lower lip, but nodded in the end.
"Will we ever meet you two again?" Jojo asked.
"We will, son, when your time has come," Kael replied.
"Mommy, can you talk to me again in Grandma Tree’s garden later?" Vivi asked.
"Mhm, you know that I am a spirit of Mother Nature just like your Grandma. You may not be able to hug me, but you can still hear me," Sisi replied.
Right after that, Kael and Sisi’s bodies began to disperse into purple and golden fireflies. They waved at their children, while Jojo and Vivi did the same.
"We love you, Jojo, Vivi," Kael and Sisi said at the same time.
"We love you too, Mommy! Daddy!" Vivi shouted with all her might. "Vivi will be good! I will be the prettiest Darling ever!"
"Mommy, Daddy, thank you for everything..." Jojo muttered. "We love you, and I... I promise that the four of us will reunite one day."
And with that, Sisi and Kael disappeared into hundreds of fireflies.
The rain of white cherry blossom petals continued falling even after their owner had left with her husband, as if it were meant to bloom forever.
