Inner Thoughts Exposed: Reborn General's Farming Daughter Has a System
Chapter 36: Visiting the Fields
Xiao Qingya was a stubborn little one and Zhou Anran knew she couldn’t coax her to give up. Her mind sometimes still followed her instinct to get something without thinking about the consequences in the long run.
In just two days, she had forgotten the dangers of the world and wanted to wander outside!
She had already lost count how many times the little one mentioned following them secretly in her mind. It made Zhou Anran incredibly alarmed, and as such, she could only helplessly grant her wish.
At this moment, Xiao Qingya was sitting on her second brother’s shoulder, hugging his head, giggling merrily.
Xiao Yuyan was walking beside them, eyeing every movement around them with a hint of vigilance. There was one wooden bucket in her hand.
Zhou Anran and Xiao Yuxi were also carrying wooden buckets, holding one each in their arms.
It was still in the morning, so the temperature from the sun was still relatively mild. Xiao Qingya watched curiously at the plants around them.
Even though the sun was mostly hot during daylight, the air quality was definitely better than modern times.
The majority of people had planted rice in their fields. They also divided a part of it to plant other things for daily consumption like water spinach or cabbage.
In the field path, their family would even occasionally meet large trees—there were also fruit trees.
The trees were more numerous at the village path since they hadn’t reached the area where people planted rice yet. When it reached the fields, the number of trees grew more sparse.
"Birds?" Xiao Qingya calmed down and pointed to the birds in the sky. Their numbers were quite a lot, and in the distance, they became tiny black dots.
Xiao Fenghao glanced at the direction where her little fingers were pointing at. "Little Ya wants to see something?"
"Hold on tight." He cautioned.
She subconsciously hugged her second brother more tightly. The teenager was rummaging something from his pocket. She blinked when she saw the slingshot in his hand.
A glint crossed Xiao Fenghao’s eyes. He was shaking slightly from excitement. After he put something in the slingshot’s pouch, he fired it into the distance.
In an instant, Xiao Qingya could see the flocks of birds flying away in fright.
However, they also heard an angry shout.
"Who goes there? Daring to throw things at me?" An adult man’s voice filled with anger reached their ears.
Oops, the projectile from Xiao Fenghao’s slingshot didn’t only drive away the birds, but also hit someone else’s head.
The rice plants were tall and once someone bent down, the green and thick rice plants would cover their figure. Xiao Fenghao was startled, not expecting him to hit someone.
He glanced at his mother—she was already glaring angrily at him.
Smiling sheepishly, he decided to walk faster, a little embarrassed but not guilty. He had used a fallen ripe mulberry, so the force wasn’t that strong.
Zhou Anran greeted the middle-aged fellow villager in embarrassment. Fortunately, he didn’t seem to think much and greeted her back in a hearty tone.
Along the way, Xiao Qingya already had a rough idea about what item she should choose. Of course, the System also played a huge part in educating her.
[Little Ya, you can see that there are a lot of birds eating the grain here. Besides that, some of the rice plants do not survive. Do you spot the signs?]
The System gave a little quiz.
Xiao Qingya glanced at the rows of plant rice on the fields, observing it carefully. Xiao Fenghao also secretly glanced at the surroundings.
He was older and often went to the fields, so he knew what the System was referring to. His heart was itching a little, wishing he could be the one who answered the question.
Subconsciously, he held his breath, hoping the little one would figure it out soon. She had mentioned buying items from the system’s shop, and the item from there might help to solve their problem.
After waiting for a while, Xiao Qingya finally answered.
[Is this because of some kind of pest? The grain heads of some rice plants do not seem to be full yet, but their leaves and stem have already turned yellow.]
These rice plants looked as if they were on the verge of death.
The System inwardly nodded, and it didn’t forget to praise its host. [Little Ya is so smart.]
A small smile bloomed on Xiao Qingya’s face, and she looked proud.
[System, the most pressing issue is to get the pesticide for these rice plants, right? You can lift the block on the system’s shop now, let me search.] Xiao Qingya urged.
Soon, Zhou Anran and her twin daughters finally caught up. They also finally arrived at their fields.
Xiao Qingya excitedly got down from her second brother’s back. Before she could jump into the field, Xiao Fenghao already grabbed her first.
She sent a puzzled look at him.
Xiao Fenghao lifted her up and jumped into the field. In an instant, some mud coated his feet.
She looked down and blinked. Fortunately, her second brother caught her. Otherwise, she would have jumped straight into the mud.
Xiao Fenghao pretended to show a few rice plants to his little sister. "Little Ya, do you know what kind of plant those are?"
She nodded. "Rice plant."
He patted the top of her head and kissed it, praising her. Then, he started explaining all the knowledge about the rice plants he knew.
"These are the grain heads." He plucked a few, and put them on Xiao Qingya’s palm.
She tried to pinch it. The grain heads still looked flat. When she opened them, they were still empty. Some of them had some kind of white substance.
"They are still in the process of developing into mature grains. It might take a few weeks." Xiao Fenghao scratched the back of his head. He actually wasn’t sure.
"Three weeks." Zhou Anran appeared near them and chimed in. "We can harvest them in three weeks."
Xiao Qingya nodded seriously. She also secretly purchased the pesticide from the system’s shop.
Zhou Anran took her from Xiao Fenghao’s arms, leading the siblings to the farm hut located at the edge of their field.
Once they arrived there, Xiao Qingya stared unblinkingly at the wooden buckets. What should she do so that they wouldn’t notice when she put the pesticide into the water?
