Chapter 5: A thousand push ups

His mother froze when she heard that, confused as to what her son said.

His sister leaned forward, giving him a curious gaze as well.

Ken could see the disbelief and confusion in their eyes. He sighed internally.

’This dude was really that weak that a word like training is shocking’

"I’m going to train, I’m tired of having a weak body." He ensured that he spoke in a manner that allowed her know that he wasn’t asking but rather telling.

She stared at him for a hard second and then a tear dropped down her eye. She pulled him in for a hug again.

’Huh, what’s happening, why the hell is she hugging me?’ he wondered to himself.

"I’m so sorry, my son, if I had given birth to you stronger, you wouldn’t be suffering so much," she gripped him tight and said.

’Tch, I love her care and whatnot, but I have to go train.’

He gently pushed her off and looked her right in the eye. "You did nothing wrong." After saying that, he walked away. His mother watched in confusion as Ken stepped out of the house. He shut the door behind him and kept walking. He could see a forest up ahead and that was his target.

Before he bothered about learning about this world, he wanted to get the strength needed, at least get back to the level where he was on Earth.

He walked through the farm side where his brothers worked, not because it was the only route, but simply because he wanted to know if any of them were the killer.

When his brothers noticed someone passing, they stopped to look. Their eyes landed on Ken as he walked past. He didn’t even bother paying attention to any of them.

The eldest looked at Ken with surprise, but not the kind you had when you tried to kill someone and they survived, but rather the type you have when you see something unusual, which in this case is his constantly sick and weak brother leaving the house.

As for the younger brother, his eyes held shock and worry, and Ken knew that he was the one that had done it.

’Bingo, we have our killer, you are pretty easy to read for someone that committed such an act’

Ken kept walking like nothing happened, but his eldest brother called out.

"Hey, Ken, where the hell are you going?"

Ken stopped, then looked at his brother with a smile. "To train, I’ve told mother already." After saying that, he kept walking. His elder brother looked at Ken and then the house and then at Ken again.

"Luca, watch him," the eldest said and then bolted toward the house.

Ken looked at Luca and then gave him a knowing smile, the type that told you he knew something. This sent a shiver down the spine of Luca.

Ken walked off. He knew Luca was too shaken to even bother with stopping him. He walked out of the house and right into the forest with no care for his safety.

If he died to some fierce animal, then he deserved to die. After walking for more than ten minutes, he found a clearing in the forest and a small boulder over ten feet tall and wide there. This was the place, the right place to start.

"Alright, this body is shitty as hell right now, normally they’d say don’t push the limits, but I don’t have the time to sit around and play games."

Ken sat down on the ground, crossed his legs and then closed his eyes.

The first stage of the training was to visualize the target, the goal and everything that would lead him to that goal.

He stayed that way for twenty minutes and then finally his eyes shot open, a heavy look of determination showed in his eyes.

"They said this world was dangerous, right, then I’ll just be overpowered."

He rose to his feet and then went down into a push up form. First milestone, one thousand proper push ups by the end of the day, do or die.

He did the first one and his hands shook. He knew that this was about to be a very very long ride, but regardless, with a smile on his face, barely any food in his stomach, he started and kept going.

After what seemed like two hours of pushing and fighting, he got to a hundred. His veins bulged, his entire body screamed for him to stop. The ground was covered with his own sweat.

"Arghhhhhhhgg, stupid body, move!" He yelled and went for a hundred and one, fighting with his life to push himself up, and when he did, a system warning came.

[Host in critical condition, stop now! Stop now!]

He looked at the message and it instantly enraged him.

"Who the hell are you telling to stop?" As he bellowed, he pushed down again, the hardest one yet, feeling like he was about to die, but he did it.

[You have gained +2 points to Strength, Speed, Stamina]

Another message came. Ken stared at it.

"I got stronger in real time?" He muttered, his eyes could not believe it. A grin formed on his face instantly, bright and filled with excitement.

"Hahahhahaha, let’s gooooo," he yelled as he continued the push up. He would do everything in his power now to ensure he made it to a thousand.
