Chapter 4: Going to Train

Ken opened his eyes. The first thing he saw was the wooden beams over his head as the ceiling. The smell of dirt and farm life wafted into his nose through the old wooden window.

"Urghh," he groaned as he turned to take a look at the window. The skies were blue from where he saw, and the sun was coming out.

’Is this the new world?’ he thought to himself, about to push himself up, but then a system screen appeared.

[Congratulations, host]

[You have received the basic system package]

[Name: Ken]

[Race: Human]

[Mana: 10/10]

[EXP: 0/100]

[Strength: 10 (weak)]

[Speed: 11 (weak)]

[Stamina: 9 (weak)]

Ken stared at the screen. This was the system that the gods spoke about, but what Ken was upset about right now was the weak state of his body.

Not only could he tell from looking at the system, he could feel it himself. His muscles were ridiculously weak, like he would snap in half if he tried anything hard.

"Tch, I can’t be this weak, that’s insulting," he declared and propped himself up. To Ken, nothing mattered more than strength. He got to his feet and almost tumbled to the ground. His body could not handle the force which he used to stand.

"You have to be joking," Ken muttered. The lack of body control was ridiculous.

He looked around the room. It was very small and only held the bare minimum. Ken could tell already that he wasn’t from a well-to-do family. There was nothing here aside from the small woven basket where his clothes were placed and a small wash basin.

"Tch, this doesn’t even look like a modern time, I can tell that much," he said. He grabbed a few strands of hair and pulled them out of his head, wanting to see what they looked like.

"Blood red," he muttered, visibly impressed by what he got.

"Nice." He tossed the hair away and then walked to the window, pushing the wooden doors open and looking out into the outside.

The first thing he saw were two young men ploughing a field, their bodies covered in sweat as they went along. They had the same colour of hair as Ken, so he knew that they were somehow related to him.

"This body isn’t my own, someone probably died for me to get it, well, it just makes sense seeing how weak he was." While Ken was talking to himself, he spotted a cup and a plate close to the base of the bed, and there was bread, barely eaten, remaining on the plate.

This raised his curiosity, and he walked to it, taking up the bread first and sniffing it. Everything seemed fine, but then he took the cup and sniffed the water that was inside, and he couldn’t help but get a whiff of something toxic.

His past body had been trained so much that he could smell poison from a mile away.

"He was poisoned," Ken muttered, realizing that someone killed the person that owned this body, which also meant someone in the family hated the last owner.

"Hmmm, fascinating. I really don’t care about your death, but you have given me your body, so I’ll find out and deal with that person for you," Ken said and tossed the cup to the ground, allowing the water to spill away.

He walked to the door calmly and opened it.

"I need to get stronger, but for right now, I need to know all the members of my family, and also the killer."

He walked down the rickety old stairs and into the ground floor, where he spotted a woman and a young girl, no more than ten, standing there.

Ken could already tell from how his body felt that he was about fourteen, and the two he saw outside were at least twenty and sixteen. They were probably his brothers, and this was his sister right here, and the woman who had her back to him was his mother.

They both had the same crimson hair, which was probably where he had gotten it from.

He walked into the kitchen while they were busy. His mother heard his footsteps and immediately turned. The moment he saw her, Ken was stunned. She was a stunning-looking woman, with a strikingly beautiful face and sharp crimson eyes. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Her face lit up the moment she saw him.

"Ken," she called out and rushed to meet him. The eagerness and happiness in her voice filled the room. She rushed over and hugged him.

"You are finally up, how are you feeling, better?" she asked, worrying about him. She placed her hands on his forehead to check his temperature and all.

"Uhm, I’m fine, Mum," Ken decided to go with it. He didn’t really know how family worked since he had always been an orphan.

Her face lit up when she heard him call her Mum, she almost burst into tears. She hugged him tighter.

"Oh my boy, thank the goddess you are alive," she said.

’Hmmm, from that alone I know my mother loves me, and she is devout to a religion. For now, I’ll rule her out as the killer,’ Ken thought. He looked over to his sister, and she pouted immediately.

’Huh, what’s her problem!’

His mother sensed he was looking at his sister, so she pulled back and explained why his sister was pouting.

"Amber is mad at you because you are the only one she can play with, and since you were sick, she had no one to play with," his mum explained.

Ken looked at Amber, and she immediately folded her arms and looked away. "Hmph."

’Hmm, these two seem to be pretty okay with me. That leaves my father and those two outside, or if there is anyone else in this family.

Sadly, I don’t have the time to do a full investigation yet. I feel disgusted being so weak. I have to go and do something about this.’

He looked at his mother. "I’m going to train."
