Cain let out a sigh.

"In the end, you did what you could." Evangeline briefly comforted him.

He remained silent.

Traxillion made a sound,

"There is no point in going against my Queen. You are fighting the inevitable, Cain."

He took a step towards Cain and crossed all four of his arms,

"With you by our side, we could rule the world. Why do you still resist? What does it matter if you were abandoned once by us?"

Cain snorted and dropped to the ground,

"If you don’t understand, then forget about it.’

Obviously, the concept of being loyal to any other thing besides his Queen and his goddess was a concept completely foreign to the Redscale General.

However, Cain didn’t blame him at all. Instead, he felt like it aligned more with his nature than anything else.

Survival.

Every beast was just looking out for itself and its kind. And only the strongest would be able to survive.

From what he could see, Anathe’s victory might as well have be set in stone if he chose to stay out of it.

After all, Anathe’s army had multiple Tier 3s. But even between the Blood Bats and the Direwolves, there was not a single Tier 3. In fact, he himself was not Tier 3 yet.

He couldn’t help but wonder how Anathe had managed to get a hold of so many Tier 3 creatures.

’No. That’s not the way to look at it. Beasts naturally have more potential than humans. It is only natural for them to evolve faster. Coupled with the backing of a powerful celestial, I guess this was bound to happen.’

Although he was now sure he absolutely could take on a Tier 3 on his own, he wasn’t sure about taking on all of them.

The obvious thing to do now would be to get out of here and give Roc and Ambrosia a warning.

Then, he could bring in some support from Valestorm.

’But the thing with the Blood Moon Sect. And then there’s the other thing with the threats coming from Aderra’s inland. And now this...’

Spreading his resources too thin could spell disaster if too many cracks began to appear.

A dark thought crossed his mind,

’Should I just give up on them?’

He froze then shook his head,

If he did that, he would be going against the principles he had set for himself.

And he absolutely couldn’t have that happening.

’To claim the win, I don’t even have to defeat Anathe. All I need to do is establish an advantage.’

His eyes narrowed.

A visible advantage.

One that could deter the Ant Queen from acting too rashly. But also one that wouldn’t let her be too fearful. Regardless of the now obvious bad blood between them, Cain still didn’t want Anathe to completely turn into his enemy. If he could get her on his side, he would gain a considerable force under his wings.

’The ability to convince someone is a powerful thing...’ he thought to himself.

As it stood, he didn’t have anything that would be very convincing though.

When it came down to numbers, he absolutely could not compete at all.

If he decided to clash with her, he was unsure who would take the victory.

He let out a tired sigh,

’What do I do now...’

He tapped his fingers on his crossed leg, his mind wandering off.

Seeing him such a state, Evangeline could only shrug helplessly. Then she plopped down onto the ground in front of him.

Traxillion gave the two humans a confused stare. However, since they were not causing a problem yet, he had decided not to interfere.

He had been tasked with watching the two humans. Although he wasn’t strong enough to defeat Cain, he would surely by enough time for the two of them to be surrounded if they tried to escape.

Suddenly, Cain’s eyes lit up.

"That’s it."

Evangeline raised a brow,

"What’s wrong?"

Cain turned his gaze to her, a strange smile playing in his lips,

"I suddenly remembered something, is all..."

Evangeline seemed even more intrigued now. She leaned in,

"What did you remember?"

Cain threw a glance at Traxillion.

Without sparing the Redscale General even a glance, she waved her hand.

The shadows in the Grand Hall suddenly twisted.

In a split second, they seemed to take on a physical property, particularly, the stretch of shadows right beneath the Redscale General.

Before a single sound could be made, the shadows sucked the mutant creature right in, not leaving even a single trace.

Cain’s jaw went slack and his eyes widened.

"So? What was it?"

His neck snapped back to her,

"Are you crazy?! Why would you go ahead and do that?!"

She waved dismissively,

"There’s no need to worry. At least, for about thirty minutes."

Cain let out a tired sigh,

"Well damn."

"So?" Evangeline said, looking at him with shiny curious eyes.

He hesitated for a moment. Then he shrugged,

"Do you remember Kaelin?"

Evangeline raised a brow,

"That kid? He was fairly memorable." 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Cain nodded, "Well, he was possessed by the God, Balangol. The process caused his body and spirit to be absolutely destroyed as the might of a divine being is no joke. He was simply too weak to bear the power of a Celestial."

Cain paused for a moment and sucked in a deep breath,

"However, the power of the Celestial was not always in his body. It came from somewhere."

Evangeline’s eyes narrowed, "You mean..."

Cain nodded, "The Remnants of the Fallen Celestial; its weapons, which are its legacy. One of them was in Kaelin’s possession. And in it, was the remnant power and soul of the dead Deity."

Evangeline hummed then leaned back, her hands on the floor as she peered into the hole in the ceiling of the hall where a bright light streamed down from.

Her silver hair cascaded down like a waterfall of moonlight.

"Are you saying you want to go looking for this remnant? If you do find it, what do you plan to do with it?"

Cain’s expression turned a bit strange,

"It might be a bit crude, but..."

He chuckled darkly,

"I plan on using it to blackmail the Ant Queen."
