Dual Awakening: Elemental and Beast Transformation Paths
Chapter 41: A Little Promise Before the Test
The following morning, Sylvie and her daughter visited them again.
Maybe it was because they were alone in the town, or perhaps because she was just a good person.
That day, she brought food with her again.
The group of four had a pleasant breakfast like yesterday.
Luna even became more cheerful than usual because she loved eating with more people, especially when Ren and her mother were there.
After they were done, Sylvie immediately asked, "What are you going to do today?"
"I plan to train my innate ability." Ren gave an honest answer.
"Me too," Elara added.
The test would be held in two days, so they could not afford to laze around because it was related to their future.
"If so, then I will take my leave now." Sylvie decided not to disturb their training. "Luna, let’s go to the coffee shop."
"Un." Luna nodded cutely before waving her hand. "See you tomorrow, big brother, big sister."
"See you tomorrow." Both Ren and Elara smiled softly.
Once they left, the duo headed to the backyard to train their innate abilities.
"Elara, what skill are you going to train today?" Ren asked curiously.
"Flight technique." She told him that she would be able to fly fast and far if she could master it.
"That’s an amazing skill, Elara!" he stated. "Alright. Let’s try our best again today."
"Un." She nodded.
Elara then moved several meters away from him and shifted into her partial transformation form.
The Flight skill was similar to the Wings Tempest technique because they both relied on her wings.
Once she enlarged her wings, she flapped them carefully.
*Whoosh...
The grass beneath her swayed as a gust of wind was released from her wings.
Elara’s body was lifted up half a meter before finally dropping again. She gave a stronger flap, and her body was pushed up a meter from the ground.
She did it again, but this time, she flapped her wings when she was in mid-air.
But instead of hovering steadily, she shot higher, causing her to lose control and fall to the ground hard.
Luckily, she could land perfectly, so she didn’t suffer any injury.
’This is challenging.’
The Flight skill was different from any other innate ability because she needed to control her wings perfectly or else she would fall and injure herself.
While Elara was soaring into the air, Ren was marking the backyard as his territory.
Since Territorial Dominance was more of an innate instinct than a learned skill, he could master it on his first try because all he needed was to scratch the trees, the ground, and let out a low roar.
’Let me try it.’
He immediately threw a series of kicks and punches, as if the air were his sparring partner.
Since he was only at 1-star, he could only use the first stage. After practicing for several minutes, he completely understood the technique.
’So, the duration is one minute, and it takes ten minutes before I can use it again.’
He touched his chin before shifting his gaze to Elara.
’She is training so hard. I can’t lose to her.’
Since he had mastered the Territorial Dominance skill, he decided to train his other innate ability.
Camouflage!
Ren immediately stood close to a tree and slowly controlled his breathing.
Camouflage was different from his other innate abilities. It began with the intent to hide, then his body followed his desire, and finally, his skin blended into the surroundings.
The first step was easy, but the second and last were challenging because his body didn’t always react the way he wanted, causing his skin to not change color.
He needed to synchronize his mind and body perfectly to use this skill, so he could not master it immediately.
After training for about five hours straight, they stopped and had lunch together. They didn’t practice their innate abilities immediately; instead, they rested under a shady tree.
When the air was no longer hot, they resumed their training. At 05:00 pm, they stopped and took a shower.
Since they had trained for a whole day, Ren took her to a convenience store to get some fresh air.
"Do you like it?" Ren asked with a soft smile.
Ren and Elara were currently sitting on a wooden bench and eating ice cream. He wanted to reward her for her hard work, so he bought some snacks and ice cream for her.
"Yes," she licked it with a happy face because it was her first time eating ice cream.
The smile on his face grew bigger when he saw her expression. "Elara, I will take you to an amusement park after the test."
She turned to him and said, "Amusement park?"
"Yes," he nodded. "So, let’s train hard and pass the test. That way, we can also count it as our reward."
"I...I will do my best," she suddenly looked forward to it because she had only heard about an amusement park from the adults before.
Shortly after that, the street lamps lit up one by one. Ren and Elara decided to go home once the sun had completely set.
On their way home, their hearts throbbed with happiness.
The yellow color of the street lights, the laughter of people at street vendors, and the sounds of the night animals made the atmosphere perfect for them.
The duo even felt like the street had transformed into a beautiful garden because everything around them felt calm, cheerful, and peaceful.
"When I have a lot of money in the future, I will take you to many beautiful places." Ren made another promise. "We will travel to many beautiful cities and visit the capital as well."
He then continued, "We will take a lot of photos and enjoy life to the fullest. Of course, we will live in a bigger and better place too."
Elara turned to him in shock before lowering her head shyly.
’Does that mean he will marry me in the future?’
The happiness within her grew bigger as she imagined living with him and her mother in a luxurious home.
’Hmm?’
Her eyes widened for a moment when he suddenly held her right hand.
’He...he is holding my hand.’
She slowly shifted her gaze to his handsome face.
"We will live with your mother, too. So, wait for it," he said with a big smile on his face.
"I...I will wait." She responded shyly.
Several minutes later, they arrived home.
Since they had just had a good time together, they slept with happy smiles on their faces.
----
Time went by quickly and without realizing it, it had been three days since Ren and Elara had lived together.
At this moment, the duo was standing on the terrace and ready to go to Skyline Arena to take the trial.
Even though this test would decide their future, they didn’t feel nervous at all.
Instead, they felt happy and excited because they had been waiting for this moment for several days.
"Are you ready?" Ren asked.
"Un." Elara nodded.
Then, the duo went to Skyline Arena together.
