Demon Slayer: Rise of The First Werewolf
Chapter 148: Matters Of The Heart
Sevana wrote a letter and used a bat to send it. Her bat was a bit larger and much faster than others.
She understood they couldn’t touch Adrian, not by themselves and not while Morgana was protecting him.
They would need support but not just from her own people. Adrian’s existence was a threat.
He needed to die and she was certain the other races would interfere. The church would most definitely try to kill him.
They just need a little bit of convincing, meaning they needed a sign. Sevana grinned.

More time passed and Adrian was not feeling okay. His instincts told him something was coming.
One night, he saw Annie walking out of her house, she stood on her yard and looked around.
" I know you’re there, I know Adrian sent you to protect me, I remember everything so please come out, I just need to talk."
Adrian didn’t move, in all honesty he was scared to face her right now, scared she wouldn’t accept him.
Annie also didn’t move, she stood there in the cold waiting, seeing nobody coming out she sat down but didn’t go back inside.
After nearly 30 minutes of this, he saw her shivering from the cold winds of the night. ’ If this continues she’ll get sick.’
Annie was stubborn so Adrian decided to reveal himself. He jumped down and landed in front of her.
Then he removed the cloak he was wearing, her attention was finally drawn to him and she jumped up.
Adrian reached and instinctively she took a step back, by the time she realised what she had done it was already too late.
Adrian smiled and pretended to be fine but Annie knew him, she could see the pain in his eyes.
" I’m sorry." She tried to approach him but he raised his hand to stop her.
" It’s fine, I understand Annie." He smiled gently at her, he really did understand her reaction.
If she truly remembered everything then it would be understandable that she would see him as a monster.
" Adrian I.." he stopped her again.
" No let me say this first, I’m sorry, for everything, for getting you mixed with my mess.
I should’ve stayed away, I know I should’ve stayed away but I..." He didn’t finish, he didn’t need to.
His words just made her mad, she approached him and slapped him across the face.
Adrian had seen the slap but he was too shaken to dodge. " Ouch, that hurt, you hurt me." She cried.
’ But you’re the one who hit me.’ he thought to himself. " I’m sorry." He grabbed her hand and rubbed it gently.
She pulled it back and glared at him with rage. " You had no right Adrian, you had no right." Tears welled up in her eyes.
Adrian looked down, " I know, I never should gotten you involved and risked your life and that of your family, I’m sorry."
She slapped him again and hurt her hand again. " No you idiot, you had no right to decide that for me.
I know you think you would’ve been protecting me but did you bother to ask me what I wanted?"
Adrian looked at her, " It wasn’t safe Annie, I couldn’t..."
She gritted her teeth from the anger, " And is it safe now? My family and I were attacked by frewken vampires.
And what did you do? Obviously keeping yourself a secret was not enough to keep me safe so why didn’t you say anything after?"
She started crying, he opened his mouth. " I.." Adrian paused, he didn’t know what to say. He kept telling himself it would be even more dangerous if she knew but was that true?
He could’ve asked the organisation to protect her after all she was still human but he didn’t trust them.
That would be like giving them his heart and expecting them to not use it againt him, it would’ve been a foolish move, even for him.
The truth was, he was just a coward, he was afraid she wouldn’t be able to accept what he had become.
And he wasn’t wrong, she acted brave, she sounded like she did not care but he could see it in her eyes.
She was scared of him, the loving eyes she used to stare at him with were replaced by a facade used to mask fear.
Adrian knew they might not get through this but he found it hard to let go so he did the only thing he could.
" I’m sorry." He touched her face and looked into her eyes. " You’ll be much better off without me."
" That isn’t for you to decide Adrian, you don’t get to tell me what’s good for me, you don’t."
" Annie please, I can see the way you look at me, I can see the fear in your eyes, when you look at me all you see is a monster.
I understand that, I am a monster which is why I can’t stay with you, you deserve better, you deserve to be happy.
To be with a guy like that Cyril, he would take care of you much better than I ever could." Annie just started crying.
" Yes I’m scared Adrian, I don’t recognise you at all." Her admitting it hurt more than he thought it would.
" But that doesn’t mean I don’t love you, that doesn’t mean I don’t want you. Cyril is a great guy.
I’ve tried to love him I really have but I can’t, I can’t stop thinking about you even when you were gone or at least I thought you were.
I’ve tried to move on without you but I can’t Adrian I can’t so please, please don’t leave me again, please."
Adrian felt his heart breaking, he held her tighter, her scent made him growl softly. Holding her made him peaceful.
He held her a bit longer, he was reluctant to go but he couldn’t stay. Annie had a family who loved her.
He couldn’t just take her away from them, that would be cruel. " You’ll be much better off."
He told her and looked into her eyes, his eyes glowed silver like the moon.
