They were still too distant for Victor to pick out details; he couldn’t see any people on the ramparts or crossing the impressive stone span of the bridge between them. He could see the snakelike road that led up through the foothills to the first citadel, and, not far from where he and Valla sat atop Guapo’s back, he could see his army encamped, guarding the approach to that road.
