CEO's Reborn Wife
Chapter 543 - 551: Seeing You Off
Jane Sampson was holed up in the restroom and wouldn’t come out, so James Black went to the window to smoke a cigarette to clear his head, quietly waiting until he heard the door open over there before he walked back.
"You can go wash your face now," Jane said as she came out, not daring to lift her gaze to look at James even for a second, just pointed towards the direction of the restroom. It was only once James glanced at her and then walked into the restroom that she finally took a deep breath.
Was he smoking just now?
Because she angered him?
Jane stood there, spacing out for a few seconds, then left the bedroom.
Since she slept in her training uniform last night, she didn’t even need to change clothes this morning.
Standing in the living room, her eyes playfully spinning around, she suddenly smirked mischievously, returned to the bedroom, and called out to James through the door, "James, I’m all set. I’m heading out now. Otherwise, it’ll be late, and too many people will see us together, which wouldn’t be good."
Without waiting for James’s response, Jane dashed out of the bedroom, scampering into the kitchen and quickly embracing the lunchbox James had cleaned and placed there, giggling with a grin that spread from ear to ear.
"I got you, my little treasure!" Jane patted the lunchbox, overjoyed, then turned to leave.
She planned to make a run for it with the lunchbox while James had no idea!
Jane thought to herself that she deserved a hundred likes for her cleverness.
However...
She had barely left the kitchen when she saw James, who was supposed to be in the restroom, inexplicably standing in the living room. Jane quickly hid the thing in her arms behind her back.
"You’re done brushing your teeth and washing your face? That was fast," Jane said with surprise.
"Weren’t you going to leave first? Let me send you off," James replied with a hint of a smile on his lips.
"No need, we’re an old couple; what’s the point? Besides, wouldn’t we get seen?" Jane quickly shook her head.
"Even as an old couple, it’s only proper to walk you to the door," James said, slightly tilting his body to urge Jane, "Aren’t you in a hurry? Why aren’t you leaving?"
"Going, going!" Jane replied, then after a thought, she added, "You go ahead and open the door for me, it’s hard to put on my shoes."
"Sure thing." James was particularly agreeable at this moment and walked over to open the main door.
Seeing this, Jane chuckled, moved sluggishly to the doorway, slipped off her slippers, and stuffed her feet directly into her sport shoes without bothering to tie the laces. She stomped on the backs of her shoes and turned around, ready to dash off.
Only...
Stopping at the entrance to the stairs, Jane felt something was off—weren’t her hands too empty?
Turning around, she saw James at the door, holding her lunchbox that she had tried to hide behind her back.
She ran off alright, but the lunchbox didn’t make it.
"Give it back to me!" Jane charged at James with sudden courage, "Give it to me! Give it to me!"
James lifted the lunchbox over his head, "If you want to go, go. Who said I’d allow you to take things with you?"
Jane pouted as James, who was already tall, held the lunchbox so high up that there was no way she could reach it!
"Just let me use it for a few days!" Jane tugged at the corner of James’s clothes, "Just for a few days, I’ll clean it and give it back to you."
Seeing that James remained unmoved, his gaze dropping toward her face, Jane wrapped her arms around his waist and snuggled her face into his chest, rubbing against him, "Please~ Let me borrow it for two days~"
James’s eyes flickered, restraining the impulse to stroke his young wife’s head, and his voice still sounded indifferent, "You know that acting coquettish won’t work."
Jane immediately withdrew her face from James’s chest, cursing in her heart—who the hell said that acting cute was a surefire way to win over a man?
