CEO's Reborn Wife
Chapter 508 - 516: Making Painstaking Efforts
Only Jane Sampson stood out as the odd one, "Report, not interested!"
Six words, and how loudly she responded, even Lieutenant Johnson couldn’t help but take an extra glance at Jane Sampson. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
"Hmm, since most of you are interested in shooting, we’ll start with that this afternoon," said Lieutenant Johnson. "We’ll take you to the shooting range."
???
Had she not voiced her disinterest loudly enough?
"Pfft~"
Hearing someone laugh not far away, Jane Sampson turned her head and saw Peter Gingery, whom she had scolded all morning, standing nearby and watching the group.
Clearly, his laughter was because he had heard Jane Sampson say she was not interested.
Seizing the moment while the cameraman wasn’t looking, Jane Sampson stealthily shot Peter Gingery a look that said, "you wait and see."
Peter Gingery grinned at Jane Sampson from afar. Without guessing, it was clear that, in her mind, Jane Sampson had cursed him hundreds of times and killed him thousands of times.
He had good intentions, though. Had he not kept it a secret, whether she would have joined the guard team was a mystery.
If it weren’t for the surprise, what fun would it be?
Life, after all, must be filled with surprises to have meaning, right?
Peter Gingery had also just stopped to take a glance because he saw Jane Sampson and the others approaching. Then, he walked away. That morning, Jane Sampson and the rest followed Lieutenant Johnson around all the accessible parts of the guard team. Just that round alone left everyone parched and weak in the knees.
When Lieutenant Johnson finally announced it was time to eat, the group hurried to the dining hall as fast as their feet could carry them.
"This week, all three of your daily meals will be solved in the dining hall. If you dawdle, and mealtime passes, there will be nothing left in the dining hall, and you will go hungry. Also, take as much as you eat; wasting food is strictly forbidden!" After Lieutenant Johnson briefed them on the important matters, he let the eight of them go get their dining plates and serve themselves food.
Jane Sampson, utterly exhausted, had almost no appetite and just got a bowl of soup, two vegetarian dishes, and one meat dish, without taking any staple food to find a seat.
After a while, Mair Williams sat next to her, complaining, "All morning, under the big sun, going round and round until I’m dizzy and have no appetite."
Jane Sampson thought her own plate was sparing, but on seeing Mair Williams’s, it was even more extreme—just a bowl of soup and a serving of green vegetables.
"Are you on a diet?" asked Jane Sampson. "You’re already pretty thin. Surely you can’t have any more fat to lose, right?"
Mair Williams nodded, "Dieting."
Jane Sampson stared at Mair Williams in astonishment. So, Jane thought, she probably wasn’t a qualified artist, because most of the time, she could eat quite well.
"Did you all notice how fast these guards eat? They gobble it all up in no time, like a whirlwind!" Hibiscus Wood sat down with her food, first expressing her amazement at the meal-eating speed of the team members in the dining hall.
Jane Sampson, however, wasn’t phased by it anymore—in her house, all the men ate like that. Even James Black, when eating with her, would finish his meal in just a few minutes if he weren’t trying to look after her and keep her company.
They were all about quick and decisive action.
The eight of them sat at one table, chatting and eating, and it took them nearly forty minutes to finish lunch before leaving the dining hall and heading back to the dormitory.
After about an hour’s lunch break, at one forty in the afternoon, all eight of them gathered directly at the shooting range. All eight, except for Jane Sampson, who had a face of despair, were eager and enthusiastic to try.
