"I can come back by myself if I want to, I don’t need you to take me," Jane Sampson retorted. Probably because her grandparents were there, the courage she’d lost to the dog seemed to have been found again.

"I’m so annoyed with you," Jane Sampson nudged James Black, who was sitting next to her. "I definitely don’t want to come back with you!"

Granny Sampson was startled by the push and the interaction between Jane and James. But looking at James, he wasn’t angry at all; in fact, he watched Jane with an indulgent look on his face. Granny Sampson couldn’t help but take a few more glances at the young couple before her.

"Always talking like children," Granny Sampson finally came to her senses and chided Jane Sampson with a smile in her voice, showing no real force.

Jane Sampson stuck out her tongue, then turned to James Black and giggled slyly.

"Eat properly," James Black raised his hand and patted Jane Sampson on the head.

Watching the interactions between the young couple, Granny Sampson seemed to have noticed something. The husband and wife were much more harmonious than the last time they visited, communicating more, and their physical contact seemed more natural too.

No wonder Grandpa Sampson had been saying recently that his granddaughter seemed to have gotten a lot closer with her grandson-in-law. Bright Sampton mentioned that James Black had also been visiting home more frequently lately.

Before seeing their granddaughter, Granny Sampson and Grandpa Sampson had a bellyful of things they wanted to say to Jane Sampson because of the recent news about her. But after hearing Jane say she’d only stay for dinner before leaving, the grandparents no longer felt like bringing up their concerns.

Seeing that James Black wasn’t upset over these matters either, Grandpa Sampson and Granny Sampson tacitly refrained from mentioning anything in front of James. With only so little time for dinner, how could the elderly couple afford to spend it giving lectures when they could barely keep up with making their beloved granddaughter happy?

She was well-fed after the meal, and although Jane Sampson said she would leave right after eating, she ended up lingering at her grandparents’ until past nine o’clock before finally getting ready to leave.

It would take more than an hour by car to get back home from here, so she couldn’t stay any longer.

"Let us know when your TV show is going to premiere, tell Grandpa on WhatsAPP, and Grandma and I will be glued to the TV watching our granddaughter," Jane Sampson had already gotten into the car, but Grandpa Sampson and Granny Sampson were still holding her hand, talking to her reluctantly to let go.

"I’ll definitely remember. Grandpa and Grandma, James and I have to go. You should head back and rest early. I’ll come to visit you again when I have time," Jane Sampson said, looking at the unwillingness on her grandparents’ faces, nearly getting teary-eyed.

"Alright, you two go ahead. Your grandpa and I will watch you leave," said Granny Sampson, waving her hand to say goodbye to Jane Sampson and James Black. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Only then did James Black start the car and drive off. From the rearview mirror, he could see Grandpa Sampson and Granny Sampson standing in the doorway for a long, long time without going back to the courtyard.

If you were to ask James Black whether he still remembered his father, the answer would undoubtedly be no. He hadn’t been in touch with his biological father’s side for many years.

Therefore, he did not understand what paternal love was.

James Black grew up by Old Master Black’s side, living in the Black Family home; that was his home.

Yet, he had never felt towards Old Sir Black the kind of reluctant emotions towards children that he saw in Grandpa Sampson and Granny Sampson.

"In the future, when we have time, after visiting the Black Family on the weekend, we should come here more often to spend time with Grandpa and Grandma. Even if we don’t have much time, just coming for a meal would be good," James Black suddenly said to Jane Sampson.
