CEO's Reborn Wife
Chapter 1364 - 1372 Dowry
Bright Sampton sat there, scowling at Julie Sampton the entire evening because of a few words Julie said before the meal. Throughout the night, Bright relentlessly criticized Julie without any intention to restrain herself in front of the Smith Family, or to pretend to have a good relationship with her sister Julie.
Yet even so, the seniors always managed to make the dinner exceptionally harmonious with laughter, drinking wine, and eating vegetables, as if it was a warm gathering of the two families.
However, two people did not say a single word throughout the dinner.
One was Jane Sampson.
The other was the protagonist of the evening, the man who was about to become Julie Sampton’s fiance.
The dinner, seemingly harmonious, lasted almost one and a half hours. Jane Sampson had originally planned to head straight home, but Old Sir Sampton stopped her. He sent Bright Sampton to Father Sampton’s car and got into Jane’s car with Granny Sampton, asking Jane to drive them back to the Sampton Family home.
On the road, Jane drove in silence. Grandpa Sampton quietly watched her for a long half hour before he finally spoke.
"Jane, are you angry because grandpa mentioned the Black Family in front of the Smiths?" Grandpa Sampton asked.
Before Jane could respond, Grandpa Sampton apologized first.
"Jane, it was grandpa’s fault, and I am sorry," Grandpa Sampton admitted openly. "I promise you, this is the last time I will do this for Julie Sampton. It won’t happen again, so can you forgive me this one last time?"
Jane’s gaze seemed intently focused on the road ahead, her lips trembling slightly as if she couldn’t produce any sound.
It wasn’t until Old Sir Sampton called her name again and apologized once more.
Jane slowly responded, "Okay."
After that, Jane did not utter another word.
At this moment, Jane thought of James Black.
She missed him incredibly.
She also wished she could turn back time to the afternoon and had decided not to attend this dinner.
Even if Grandpa Sampton might still have said those words, at least she wouldn’t have heard them and maybe, she could have remained ignorant forever.
All the way home, Jane forced herself to reminisce about James Black, the surprises she left for him at home, imagining how he might react to them.
She dared not let herself think about everything that happened at the dinner earlier tonight.
When Jane arrived at the Sampton Family home, because she drove slowly, Father Sampton and the other three had already reached home. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
As Jane got out of the car and followed Grandpa Sampton and Granny Sampton inside, she did not anticipate that upon entering, she would find Julie arguing with Father Sampton.
The fight was about her dowry.
"Dad, I am your biological daughter. You always said that although you cared for Jane Sampson too, I was your real daughter and you would always favor me. Is this your way of showing love?"
Julie was roaring, "When Jane Sampson got married, you, mom, and grandparents all gave her company shares. Why does she get them and I get nothing?"
"Aren’t mom’s shares already in your name? Haven’t you also claimed back the shares I gave Jane Sampson?" Father Sampton retorted angrily. "What else are you unsatisfied with?"
